...some actually come through and provide information that can be shared. This information is what gives everyone an easier way of obtaining such information for it is much easier to look it up on the web than find out in person. While other look up this information back in the day people went to libraries where they read books for intel. The books in libraries are more likely to contain more information over the past than the internet these days due to how old the information is and how the internet wasn’t obtainable back in the day so no one could share it so instead they used writing utensils to record them in books to pass down to the future. Many agree that reading sync with the brain more often than the web just because its in our nature. I conclude my essay by recommending to read the information from books which contain more accurate intel than the internet.
Henry Clay, one of America’s greatest legislators and orators, lived from 1777 to 1852. In his lifespan, Henry was a very successful attorney, a well respected farmer, a horse race enthusiast, and a “Great Compromiser”. The name “Great Compromiser” comes from the fact that Clay was very good at negotiation. With this skill at hand, Henry was able to avoid the Civil War until it could not be adverted.
Henry Clay’s first major compromise was the Missouri Compromise of 1820, created after a huge debate regarding slavery that threatened to tear the Union apart. The dispute started in 1817, when Missouri applied for statehood. Congress decided to make a law to allow Missouri to frame a state constitution in 1819, and Representative James Tallmadge of New York wanted to add an antislavery amendment to the law to stop further introduction of slaves to the state and to free slaves already there at the age of twenty-five. This caused a huge uproar about the national government’s right to restrict slavery, resulting in Tallmadge’s bill passing in the House but failing in the Senate. When Congress received a request from Maine for statehood in December 1819, the Senate took the chance for compromise. It passed a bill to admit Maine as a free s...
The construction of railroads in California impacted the state physically, socially, and economically; and ultimately helped propel California into the state it is today. During a time when masses of people were migrating to California but were doing so in an inefficient, and sometimes dangerous way, the first transcontinental railroad provided a fast and easier alternative. During the 1850's and 60's California was booming as many people from across the country uprooted their lives and headed west to begin a new life and attempt to strike it rich. Covered wagons were not an ideal way of travel but were the only way to go until the railroads were constructed.
Wilmot acted in hopes of stopping slavery’s expansion westward, but his movement did not pass with the Senate and was therefore disregarded (3,91). The South’s population was slowly becoming overshadowed by the North’s, leaving little room to stop anti-slavery legislation (3,91). When California was admitted as a free state in 1850, the US was left with no slave state to balance this addition and some southerners desired a separation of slave states from the union (3,92). Congressmen and senators started to fear their political opponents tremendously; tension was slowly building up (3,92). The Compromise of 1850 admitted California as a free state but also passed a law making it painless for slave-owners to recover their escaped slaves from free states (3,92).
...gration in population, help the California economy by building many businesses and caused violent conflicts between diverse groups of people. The Gold Rush in 1851 changed California.
In 1849 once again the Union was facing the same crises it had faced in 1820. California now wanted to be admitted as a free state. Once again Henry Clay came up with a compromise to resolve this conflict. California would indeed be admitted as free while the rest of the Southwest territories would decide the slavery issue by popular sovereignty. It would also abolish slavery altogether in Washington DC and initiate a stronger fugitive slave law to appease the South. This last concession angered people in the North however. Free blacks were concerned as now a Southerner could accuse any black person as being a runaway slave.

The California Progressive reform movement that occurred from 1910 to 1923 was a major turning point in California in regards to its political and historical development. California at the time was behind by 10 years as compared to the movements happening nationally. During the 1910 to 1923, it was considered to be the greatest reforms of the era. The movement commenced out of protests against the urban corruptions as seen in the Ruef Schmitz regime happening in San Francisco as well as similar regimes happening throughout the state like in Los Angeles, Fresno, and Sacramento. During the late 1840's California did not show much promise or security. It had an insecure political future, its economic capabilities were severely limited and it had a population, other than Indians, of less than three thousand people. People at this time had no idea of what was to come of the sleepy state in the coming years. California would help boost the nation's economy and entice immigrants to journey to this mystical and promising land in hopes of striking it rich.
California which was quickly populated due to the gold rush in 1849 would be allowed into the Union as a free state along with New Mexico. The acceptance of California as a free state would upset the balance of the number of free states and slave states. Furthermore New Mexico, Oregon and Utah would lead to further unbalance in the representation of both sections. The Compromise of 1850 would allow California to enter the Union as a free state and leave New Mexico, Oregon, and Utah to be decided by the people in what was called popular soverighnty. It also would abolish slave trade in Washington D.C. and pass the Fugitive Slave Act to favor the
