Historical Background
We would like start our discussion with a brief history of Shaykh Abu Hasan Ash-Shādhilī. Around the year 559/1146 or 563/1148, a child named Sulayman was born to a sharif of the Bani Arus whose name was Abu Bakr ibn Ali, and the name of the child was and he was nicknamed "مَشِـيش" which means Little Cat in the Berber language. Upon reaching maturity, Sulayman Mashish withdrew from the world as an ascetic and built a zāwiyah that still stands among the ruins of his village of Aghyul. In either 559/1146 or 563/1148, he sired a son named Moulay Abdessalam. known as ‘Ibn Mashish’, he who would become the first exemplary shaykh Moroccan Sufism.
His sole student, the Moroccan sharif, Sidi Abul Hassan ash Shādhilī' (d. 656/1241) spread the first version of Moroccan Sufism abroad under the banner of Shādhilīyyah Sufi order. He started his journey in search of wisdom via Tunis and finally arrived in Iraq. There he met a Sufi named al-Wāsitī who told him that he could find his Spiritual Master (Sheikh) in the country he had travelled from: ‘Abd al-Salam ibn Mashish, the great Moroccan spiritual master. Under his guidance, Abul Hasan attained enlightenment and proceeded to spread his knowledge across North Africa, especially in Tunisia and Egypt, where he is buried. After the death of his master, he spread the teaching of Ibn Mashish far and wide.
Sidi Abul Hassan ash Shādhilī' promoted a path of moderation in outward actions, concentrating instead on attaining sincerity through constant remembrance and repetition of Allah’s name. He died in 1258 in Humaithra, [4] Egypt, while he was on his way to the pilgrimage in Mecca in 1258. Humaithara is between Marsa Alam and Aswan in Egypt and his shrine there is hi...

...iritual development. According to Sidi Mustafa, the purpose of the Hadrah is to draw closer to Allah and to free to heart everything other than the remembrance of Allah.
In summation when a comparison is made between the two zawiyahs, we find one Zawiyah of Shaykh Sidi Ahmad Al Habib that is on the decline due to several factors beyond its control. The main reasons being a lack of the finance that is necessary to keep the Zawiyah in good operation, a lack of leadership come from a shaykh and a lack of followers or new members who could generate new energy and life into the Zawiya.
As for the other Zawiyah, Zawiyah Sidi al-Ghazi, we found to be vibrant and full of energy and life. For very opposite reasons. It had a strong hierarchy, finance, membership and a large facility and infrastructure.

Siddhartha Gotama was born into a rich royal family, located in Nepal in 563 BC. These are known as the four great sightings. He realized at the age of 29 that, not all lived a life like him and didn’t all have immeasurable riches, and he found that these luxuries didn’t necessarily provide happiness. So he left the palace and his family and decided to trial the different teachings, religions and philosophies of the period. After six long years of meditation and study he attained Enlightenment. Siddhartha is said to have discovered what Buddhists call the Middle Way—a path of moderation away from the extremes of self-indulgence and self-mortification. He accepted a little milk and rice pudding from a village gir...
Imagine being a poor slave in ancient Africa and a king wearing a gold crown was giving pounds of gold to you. Mansa Musa was “the king of all kings” in the Mali Empire. He was a true believer of the Muslim religion and followed the five pillars of Islam. In January of 1324, Mansa Musa traveled on a journey to Mecca. This pilgrimage or hajj was for only religious purposes so that he could complete two pillars of the Muslim religion-the hajj and zakat (charity) and he could alsk follow the Qur'an.
The Islamic tradition, as reflected in Naguib Mahfouz’s Zaabalawi, has over the course of history had an incredible impact on Arab culture. In Mahfouz’s time, Islamic practices combined with their political relevance proved a source of both great power and woe in Middle Eastern countries. As alluded to in Zaabalawi, Mahfouz asserts the fact that not all Muslims attain religious fulfillment through this common tradition, and other methods outside the scope of Islam may be necessary in true spiritual understanding.

Abbas writes in introduction about the history of Islam on the Sub-continent, starting with Mohammad bin Qasim, an Arab general who conquered part of Sindh. Then he talks about the Muslim conquerors from the north--Central Asians, Afghans, and Persians. Sufis (mystic saints) also played a vital role for spreading Islam in subcontinent.
In the year 1971, Baghdadi was born in Samarra, North Baghdad. As a child he was described as withdrawn and barely audible. His neighbors recalled him as shy and retiring. His nickname as a child was “The Believer” because he would always be engrossed in his religious studies as a child. He is from a religious family. His brothers and uncles are preachers and teachers in the Arabic culture. As a married man, he became a professor, teacher, educator, preacher, and a graduate of the Islamic University, where he earned a BA, MA, and PhD. Even though he barely appears in audio or visual recordings, he is stated to have the words that can motivate people to do great things. Many can claim that his family has the lineage that traces back to the Prophet Muhammad. (This portrays the type of influence he has upon the muslim community).

Wadi Al-Salaam, which means “valley of peace” in Arabic, holds the remains of some of the most prominent Islamic figures, religious leaders, clerics, political leaders, and ordinary citizens. Muhammad’s declaration was implemented by all the Muslims throughout the entire history. For example, Aisha, Muhammad’s wife was one of the greatest scholars among the Islamic community. Many people (both females and males) would visit Aisha after the death of her husband just to learn because they believed that she was an influential scholar within the Islam society (Edwards 58). Moreover, the women in Islam were motivated to participate in the pursuit of knowledge in the entire Islamic community, for example through awarding scholarships to the females who excellently participate in the field of academia. Furthermore, the al-Qarawiyin University in Morocco was funded by Fatima al-Fihri, (a woman) in 859 C.E. This shows unlike the stereotypes from the Western culture, the Muslims do not oppress the women and instead, the women in Islam have the same educational opportunities as the
Abu Al-Walid Muhammad Ibn Ahmad Ibn Rushd, known in Latin as Averroes, was one of the most influential Islamic philosophers and scientist. He lived in a time where Philosophy was not celebrated in the Islamic world, and philosophers were regarded as unbelievers. He, however, revived the Aristotelian philosophy stressing that it has no conflict with the belief in God, and that was the theme he used throughout his writings. He integrated religion and philosophy challenging the anti-philosophical view of the Muslim scholars at that point. That influenced a group of western scholars who used the same examination and identified themselves as the “Averroists.”
