Hispanic and Latinos is special terms in this graduation paper; therefore, the clear definition of these terms will help understand lucidly what this study is talking about. Sometimes, Hispanic and Latino will be exchangeable to match the specific research because when Latino have not appeared, Hispanic was considered as the old name which Latino virtually replaces after. This section is responsible for explaining and defining Latinos community before we continue to approach the stereotypes in the films.
1 HISTORY OF TERM AND DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LATINO AND HISPANIC IN THE UNITED STATES
1.1. Definition of the term “Hispanic”
The term “Hispanic” is the special name for the group of immigrants moving to the United States. This term “Hispanic” historically originated from the census in 1970 by Nixon Administration when this Administration want to investigate well-defined demography in United State. “Latinos”, at that time, is short name of “Latinoamericanos” which means people speak Spanish or Portuguese in Latin America. In 1997, Office of Management and Budget merged label ‘Latino’ into Hispanic’ origin ethnicity to avoid conflict in classifying related to two categories. It was not until 2000 that The US Census Bureau, the official website about the nation's people and economy, officially identify “Latino/ Hispanic” panethnicity as the largest group including six major immigrant groups (Mexicans, Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Central Americans, and South Americans). As a result, The US Census Bureau clarified two groups for data on ethnicity: "Hispanic or Latino," and "Not Hispanic or
