“Groovy practice y'all!” Lizzie blurts with excitement. The Jango Rango Hip-Hop Dance team emerge from their studio after a long day of dance. The sun blazes down on the New York sidewalk, nearly burning all it touched. The team wipe their sweat off their brows and gulp down some water. “Ice cream at my house!” Dari explains. Regan and Lizzie fall into unison behind her. When they reach Dari’s three story penthouse, they all sit down with excessive amounts of ice cream. “Alright team,” Regan’s voice took on a serious tone. “ Cici and Valentino are our competition this year. They’re doing the tango. Every year, we’ve come into second place. No longer we shall suffer!” Dari and Lizzie pump their fists in agreement. “Yeah!” “As team captain, …show more content…
They talk some and push the living room furniture back. They roll out some mats and begin hip-hop practice. Regan clears her throat. “So, I was thinking, we’ll start out in a triangle and all rotate out at top. First, we’ll explode out into something wild. Lizzie, you’re pretty crazy, so you’ll start out at top. I’m like the glue of the group, so I’ll tie the dance together second. Dari, you’re our lethal weapon. We need someone like you to set the stage on fire in the third rotation.” The Jango Rango Hip-Hop Dance Team break and find their spots. They run through the routine, editing as they go. After a couple hours of exhausting twists, flips, and turns, the team once more departs. Two months remain till the Talent Dance Competition. Day after day, the team continues to meet at Dari’s penthouse. Each day, they prove themselves worthy of the hip-hop dance. Modern dances became natural, as they could all do it in their sleep. They gracefully contort their limbs to complement another’s dance moves. Then, the morning of the competition finally rolls around.
Dari, Lizzie, and Regan sit in a circle, gossiping about the teams they’re up against. The announcer’s voice blasts from the

“Welcome to the 23rd annual Talent Dance Competition!” The audience cheers, and the announcer explains the rules. “First up, we have Connor and John performing a contemporary duet.” Connor and John skip onto the stage, wearing men’s ballerina outfits. Next came Kailin and Remi, doing some hipster routine. “Team huddle,” Regan demands. “Okay, we got this, word got out that Remi accidently tripped Kailin, so we don’t have to worry about them. There’s three more group routines and two solos. Then Cici and Valentino, so that means were last.” The team sit in silence, doing their last minute stretches and rituals. They closely examine all the competition. Zak returns from his belly dance routine, wearing baggy silk pants, a turbine, and a wrap. Ansley and David perform the jive and Grant and Liam do the cha-cha-cha. Jordan and Annie emerge from the stage wearing native hawaiian skirts, leis and tops. Ah, the hula. After the last solo dance, a traditional bollywood dance performed by Ben, Cici and Valentino are

I really like how they included the puppet in the dance and that later on the puppeteers where actually performing on their own showing that what’s in the background also matters. That was very inspiring and very well done as Kidd Pivot is know for having highly trained dancers. In the video from Ohad Naharin “minus 16”, which we have seen before” I can say that it is Dance Theater and Physical Theater work. The dancers are also highly trained but in a different way than Kidd Pivot’s dancers. Do they end up naked at the end? I wasn’t sure about that
gave the mic back to the DJ, who turned the music up. But since KayDe, Kelley, and their friends had always danced that way to hip-hop music, they couldn't believe Mr. Bennett would carry out his threat—so they kept on freak-dancing.
Another scene that depicts the way some view of breakdancing and hip hop is when James has a party and he invites Ozone and Turbo, as well as Kelly. There are a lot of wealthy people there and when they see the two males from the trio, the looks on their faces turn into those of shock. Kelly’s former dance coach is also at this party, and when he finds out the grou...

Since the early to mid 90’s, hip-hop has undergone changes that purists would consider degenerating to its culture. At the root of these changes is what has been called “commercial hip-hop". Commercial hip-hop has deteriorated what so many emcees in the 80’s tried to build- a culture of music, dance, creativity, and artistry that would give people not only something to bob their head to, but also an avenue to express themselves and deliver a positive message to their surroundings.
Hip-Hop is a cultural movement that emerged from the dilapidated South Bronx, New York in the early 1970’s. The area’s mostly African American and Puerto Rican residents originated this uniquely American musical genre and culture that over the past four decades has developed into a global sensation impacting the formation of youth culture around the world. The South Bronx was a whirlpool of political, social, and economic upheaval in the years leading up to the inception of Hip-Hop. The early part of the 1970’s found many African American and Hispanic communities desperately seeking relief from the poverty, drug, and crime epidemics engulfing the gang dominated neighborhoods. Hip-Hop proved to be successful as both a creative outlet for expressing the struggles of life amidst the prevailing crime and violence as well as an enjoyable and cheap form of recreation.
“Call and response” is also utilized, which is when the DJ and the dancers will communicate in order to maintain a certain hip hop flow, and to encourage audience enthusiasm. The moves, along with the music works together to emphasize the rapid rhythm breaks. The dancers perform moves that involve flips, upside down movement, and spinning, along with “drops” that were smooth transitions to “front swipes, back swipes, dips, and corkscrews”.” One dancer even performs a “chair freeze” which was originally one of the most popular break dancing moves, and is when the arms and upper body support the body while the legs and lower half of the body are free flowing (Forman & Neal, 2012, pg. 58). These moves require much momentum and balance, which according to popular b-boy Ken Swift, is an essential aspect to this hip hop movement (Forman & Neal, 2012, pg. 59). In both films, b-boying or breakdancing is a way to resolve some type of conflict or competition due to being able to “attack without mercy yet still see their opponents as distinct and valuable human beings” and avoid any unnecessary violence that already occurs in drastic rates within inner city neighborhoods (Chang, 2006, pg.

Over Halloween weekend, Dance TCU in concert, performed at Ed Landreth Hall on the TCU campus, was a mid term showcase performed by the students in the TCU School for Classical and Contemporary Dance. The overall mood was very professional. These college level dancers performed various pieces from Giselle to video edited versions of dance to contemporary dances inspired by swing dancing. Each piece was unique and whether the style was classical or contemporary, the execution was very good. The quality of the performance was spectacular and showed all the work that everyone involved in the production has put out to perfect all the aspects of the show come together. While there were some minor technique errors, the staging, costume design, lighting,
There is something beautiful about dance, but there is something more beautiful about dancing with others. When a group of 13 girls and 1 boy can come together from 14 different ways of life and move together as one, then a dance team becomes more than just a dance team. This was not something that happened overnight, it took time, effort and about 7 conversations with our coaches about our values. Without all of those components, this team would have never been the successful, fighting, dream team that we became. Explaining what it is like to be a member of the Kelly Kittens, almost like explaining the taste of water, it’s indescribable.
As a young girl, I loved precision dancing and performing with my dance studio. I became familiar with the Radio City Rockettes and desired the confidence they emitted. Not only did I anxiously await the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade each year, but I continuously watched the movie "Annie,” impressed by the simplicity with which the Rockettes kicked and transitioned to unique
The concept of the game is simple. Directional arrows scroll up the screen, which represent dance steps. The player must step down on the corresponding arrow when it reaches on top of the screen. In writing it sounds simple, but this game will test a player's eye-hand.. err.. eye-foot coordination. All of the songs have cleverly designed dance patterns that include jumping, freeze arrows and off-beat steps. Not only do the songs have varied dance patterns but there are three difficulty settings available to the player based on how good the player is including: light, standard, and extreme. It takes time to get better at, but over all it's a fun experience, after getting past the initial embarrassment.
In roughly one hour and forty-five minutes, the film turns all expectations and predictability on their respective heads. With all the action building up towards the climactic Chicago Tattinger Trophy who could blame you for expecting a neatly wrapped package at that point: Clark rewarded for his accomplishment, all revealed and settled? But - it is its aftermath that has much to say. Yes, there is dance as the mating ritual. Bobbie (Lisa Ann Walter), earthy, vivacious, loud, generous-hearted, is disappointed at Clark’s treatment of Rumba, “the dance of love”. Paulina with her smouldering, controlled, Latino (stereotypical?) passion sets him straight. Yes, there is the hinted sexual attraction, even tension. But - there are also the bonds forged of friendship, camaraderie and candour. Life and people are given a direction by and through dance. John Clark is able to put his life in perspective, while Paulina unearths a lost spirit to chase her dreams. Beverly, a “romantic” with her sense of romance probably buried under the laundry, jackets at the apparel division where she works and the whims of two teenage children, is very understandably miffed but finds her feet again – and how!
Hip hop, however, has transformed into mainstream culture, therefore losing itself. "Black culture, which has a long tradition of struggling against (and at the same time, working in close collaboration with) the dominant white culture, has rounded the corner of the 21st century with what looks in one sense like an unequivocal victory. Young America now embraces hip-hop as the signal pop-music genre of its time. So why does that victory feel strange: not exactly hollow, but a little haunted?" (“When the People Cheer”). As hip hop itself has begun to change so has the form of dance. Hip hop dance now has a mixture of what the Flex kings do in their videos and dances such as the popular dance “N...
