Religion as whole they are practice throughout the world. Many different religions are set with unique sets of beliefs, cultural backgrounds, and rituals. Some are form from others or branches off others.. Most of the religions practice today came from somewhere in the Eastern world. One of those religions that made a come up in the world is Hinduism. “World's largest democracy are Hindus and altogether some 685 million people identify themselves as Hindus” (Whalen 25). It is fascinating that there are that many people that practice Hinduism. Hinduism was deeply rooted in the East. Hinduism is also considered the oldest religion in the world (Whalen 25). Most Americans believe that Hinduism is about sacrificing cows, exotic temples, idols, and etc (Whalen 25). Whalen explains that “Hinduism emerged as a worldly and optimistic faith, in which the faithful worshiped various gods of nature, such as the god of fire, the god of sky, the god of storms and war (25). It seems like they have a god for everything, but it is really one god that take the face of all the other gods (Deshpande 35). The name of their main god is Brahman. As being one of the religion that is practice in the world, Hinduism had to start from somewhere. Deshpande states that “there is no single Hindu myth of origin” (35). That is kind of odd because most religions I know started from somewhere. Major religions has founders such as Buddha, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad (Whalen 25). The only history that they have on Hinduism is when the Aryan tribes brought the religion down with them on the Vedas (Whalen 25). Vedas is like their bible (Whalen 25). Vedas is the world's most oldest scripture (“Nine Beliefs of Hinduism” 17). Vedas is also “the bedrock of Sanatana Dharma, the eternal religion which has neither beginning or ending (“Religious Comparison” 42-46). They do not say that the world was created but is going through endless cycles because of Sanatan Dharma (“Religious Comparisons” 42-46). It is a family tradition that each household offer a home for one of the God’s (Mullatti 11). Not only do they have their own personal God in their household, they also have a God for the village (Mullatti 11). It is fascinating on how they keep up with worshiping all these Gods. They also have to pray, vow, and fast toward other Gods (Mullatti 11). They have all time in the world to worship all the Gods because morning baths, taking meals, and dressing up counts as some type of activity that they are doing for the Gods (Mullatti 11). Before 10th century, there were no conversion to Hinduism or changing out. (Mullatti 11). Once a Hindu you well always be a Hindu. The tradition way of becoming a Hindu was being born into it (Mullatti 11). After 10th century, that tradition change about conversion because of the Bhakti movement (Mullatti 11). Hindus jobs are different for women and men (Mullatti 11). All male makes the decisions for the family as a whole (Mullatti 11). United States’ women would not like letting fathers, husbands, and older brothers making a decision for them. They love to stand up for their own and be independent. In in 1954-56, they change that tradition up a little some. They can own land, rights to divorce, re-marry, and adopt (Mullatti 11).
