Every student should have an equal opportunity to be successful in life. One way to ensure that is by having high standards for all in the education system. Having high standards for all will challenge students to use their full potential. By challenging students to utilize their full potential, it will prepare them for higher education and the work force. High standards in schools will also increase the schools ranking, so it is beneficial for both the students and the school. Although the work load may be easier for a student in a high social class to complete rather than for a student in a low social class due to access to resources. With setting high standards for all, social classes will be transparent. Setting High Standards For Everyone(2017) stated “Look at who gets into advance placement courses in our high schools. Students who in middle-class and lower middle-class communities are put into advance placement courses would never be encouraged to take them in wealthy communities. Conversely, Students in wealthy communities who are counseled out of advance placement courses could easily get in them in less wealthy communities” p(472-473). With high standards for all, every student will have a chance to work hard to get into advance placement courses no matter where they come from. When opportunities are given high social class students and not to low social class students, it makes the low social class students feel like they are not good enough. That feeling can lead to students becoming unmotivated. Setting high standards for all it is the same as believing in all students to excel.
