Being a high school student, I stress. All high school students stress over the loads of homework and the big tests as well as having jobs and being involved in sports at the same time. I am not experienced with it, but I believe any stressed student or adult should smoke. The stories I have heard and have been told is that smoking is a stress reliever. It is worth the wrinkles that make you look 50 although you are 30 years old or worth the bad teeth and breath. After a long day of school with constant tests and quizzes you work at 4. Instead of focusing on school work before you leave for work, take up that extra time to spend on cough up your lungs every time you go to take a puff from your cigarette. It will calm you down and help you feel
After taking this class, it would be impossible to see things, specially people or myself, the same way. Whether or not the intention of the class is to provide self-improvement information, it would be impossible for the student to ignore the issues, disorders, etc., identified throughout this fast-paced plethora of information. Of course what the student decides to retains is obviously subjective; which lead us to the application of the stress and health profiles. After the completion of the scales provided, and the grading associated, it would be hard not to realize how we can better our lives, if we make minor adjustments in our way of life. I for one, personalized a large part of this information, something I probably would not have been able to do, at least at the same level, back when I was a young adult.
It bonds the people together. Smoking cigarettes is a cult, a religion, a philosophy. It’s not only a lifestyle, but it’s a belief-system. Smoking is all about the illusion of freedom. The illusion of freedom is most powerful among teenagers of junior high or high school age. The lit cigarette in your mouth your badge of freedom and defiance. It’s fun to smoke precisely because we live in a world where we’re not supposed to smoke. Smoking a cigarette separates you from your actual lame self and turns you into the cool person you want to
According to the American Institute of Stress, stress can be defined as an individual’s response, physical, mental or emotional, to an event that causes a demand for change (Selye, 1936). For athletes, that demand for change can be caused by an injury, which ultimately can have a significant impact on overall stress levels. While a physical injury can cause psychological stress, mental trauma can similarly affect an athlete physically. An athlete’s psychological stability has a great affect on an athlete’s susceptibility to pain and can alter the response to and recovery from an injury (Ahern, 1997).
Stress is a serious concern for college students, especially freshmen making the transition to a new lifestyle and school. It is important to remember that there are multiple ways to cope with stress that have shown to be effective, and every individual copes differently. It is never too late to seek help or to try a new strategy if the one chosen is not working. Three advice tips for freshmen making the transition to college are: attending or requesting mindfulness programs on campus, developing a strong support system especially with one’s parents if that is possible, and using resources that can be found on one’s campus.
We need to find healthier ways to cope with stress and peer pressure. Others believe that vaping helps them deal with stress and anxiety. While it might provide temporary relief, there are better ways to manage stress, like talking to a counselor or practicing relaxation techniques. Vaping can actually make stress worse in the long run. Some people have said it can help with stress and it has fewer toxic chemicals than cigarettes so it's less likely to kill you.
Smoking reduces stamina, endurance, and strength, diminishes health, and deteriorates organs as well as the nervous system. People who smoke often claim that smoking reduces their stress and helps them relax.
If one were to ask an adult about their college experience it is likely than the majority will say it was the best time of their life. They had fun, enjoyed the full college experience, etc. If you ask students currently in college to describe their experience, it may still be the best time of their life but it will likely also be described as stressful and filled with a variety of pressures. The average college student will likely change his/her major at least once, seek for clubs or fraternities/sororities to fit in with, work to have some spending money or to pay their way through school, deal with being away from home for extended periods of time for the first time, and other things that will increase anxiety levels. So what is a major cause initially?
Leaving home for the first time and going away for school can be very difficult for some people. In many cases for college freshmen this is their first time being away from their home and parents. Many times they get home sick and want to isolate themselves. They have to get into a new routine of going to school, and change can be very difficult. It is definitely hard to get into the swing of college. They have to navigate through classes in a new format while living away from all the comforts of parents. A college student’s life usually consists of attending classes, long hours of studying, working at a job (sometimes), and having a social life. Some students work at a job or study harder than others, but they are all trying to get degrees so maybe one day they will have meaningful and significant lives. It is a constant struggle for everyone who is trying desperately to make him or herself into a success. And every college student wants to be involved with something in order to further their education, or just have fun. There are lots of new opportunities out there. The struggle consists of demands on time, financial pressures, parental pressure and conflicts, interpersonal conflicts, managing freedom, peer and academic pressure and the transitional period to a new academic environment (Stanford University 4). All of these factors combined can cause emotional disturbances and one of the most common is stress.
Stress is defined in the dictionary as “state of mental tension and worry caused by problems in your life”. Everyone encounters stress in their life caused by many different variables in life and we all cope with in different ways. The way one copes with the stress is how it can affect our body. Some take to working out, eating healthy, take breaks from what is stressing you out and getting plenty of sleep which are good ways to cope with it. Some take to other coping mechanisms that are not very great for the body. Some examples are stress eating, abuse of drugs and alcohol, bottling up the stress, and depression. These bad methods can cause serious damage to one’s health on the body.
A significant percentage of college students spend their time on campus with a lot of stress. This is due to a tight schedule that requires them to balances class time, assignments, tests, projects and extra curriculum activities. Other students are attached to the corporate world notably adult education offered in our campus. The working lot fined it challenging to meet extra workload in their courses. The final exams have a difficult feeling for the candidates due to anxiety of passing. Cheating has become a modern trend in college life with 32% of students admitting that they have practices unethical conducts in their college life. College life has turned into a competitive field which has to be balanced on the pay slip when creating a budget. Even though life is full of stressing situations, experts argue that college life has emerged as a major cause of stress to students. Stresses can be limited or overcome once we understand the major roots of its occurrence in a different setting (Jason, 2011).The discourse determines the cause of stress among students in Strayer University. As mandated by the President of Strayer University, we are going to determine the cause of stress in college life and its effect on the economy and the victim at large. Strayer University is a for-profit higher education institution that offers degree program for working adults and undergraduate and graduate courses.
“‘I am stressed out’ is a phrase that has been echoed by teens down through the ages” (LaRue & Herrman, 2008). The adolescent years are a time of heightened stress. Adolescents experience a myriad of stressors, the most common being school, money problems, and relationships with parents. Active coping is the most commonly used strategy that teenagers employ when facing stress. Stress management programs can be beneficial to adolescent stress when they teach critical thinking and coping skills for handling stress. As a future psychology professional, the research can be used to develop best practices for stress management in adolescents.
Stress is in our everyday lives. We allow things such as the way we live, school, work, family, relationships etc to stress us out. Some people deal with stress way different from others. tobacco related illnesses? But still people smoke. Why would they still smoke even though they know the effects? Actually why do they even start? One of the reasons done because of the “cool” look you get from smoking. We have movies to blame for that but that still doesn’t mean it should be done. Peer pressure plays a big part in teenager’s lives and most kids are highly susceptible to it. This is just a few of the many reasons people start to smoke. There is also the feeling to be rebellious resulting in teens smoking to show they don’t care about rules or laws. There is also mental addiction (craving the “after meal” e.g. having one after lunch or during work, basically where and when you used to smoke), physical addiction (the addictive substance nicotine, on its own harmless but makes you crave for a cigarette on a whole) and stress. Stress is the biggest factor because smoking a cigarette relaxes a lot of people and soothes their crave for one. There is also the biggest factor
Academic stress is very common in student’s lives. Many students assume that making the academic experience their first priority now, will increase the chance of success in the future. School is an important aspect in most teenagers lives and by being so important a teenager can become depressed very effortlessly at school or because of school. Academic stress can take complete control over a student’s life, sometimes leading to depression. At school this may lead to poor attendance, a significant drop in grades or even annoyance with schoolwork, in a good student. There are many studies that have been performed to prove the correlation between responsibility in school and academic performance being the cause to academic stress. Just like there are numerous causes to academic there are also numerous cures, such as changing mind set and behavior. Academic stress is something majority of students in school can relate to and the cause of it can be something small as a bad grade on an evaluation, It will enforce the student to try harder in the future but it will for sure cause some sort of stress, even if it is for a moment. Stress from school can be one of the most essential causes of teen depression.
Teen stress is a big issue in today's society. Recent studies have shown that teens may develop more stress then adults. Few adults can remember the truth about adolescence. "Their minds "censor" their memories, and have them believe that being a teenager was was one big party, free of cares and responsibilities"( ). There aren't that many adults around who realize what adolescence was really like. The anguish, the fear, the anxiety, the stress. People don't remember those problems because they want to forget them. Stress is a significant problem for teens. There are many factors that lead into teen stress, such as school, drugs, peer pressure and relationships.
