On today’s argument I am going to present on why high school athletes gain lifetime benefits and why school should be about learning , not sports.
People think that high school athletes gain lifetime benefits. Having sports and an education would be better than just having to learn all school hours. Having sports and an education at the say time would be less frustration, exhaustion, and a lack of time, because for some students sports is a release of stress. The more students attend sports or clubs or just any other activity at school the better they have to get better jobs, with better pay, and those benefits last a lifetime. Sports would make the school more fun, without a doubt, because of the school spirit and all the support.it would
After reading " The Case Against High School Sports" by Amanda Ripley started to make me think. There were many strong points about how the priorities of the sports are beginning to be more important to students than their education. Another great point was that the financing and budgeting is unfairly distributed throughout school districts and is spent more on athletics and clubs and not enough on classes. And I Believe that schools should put certain restrictions on the spending and promoting or in school sports and clubs because of the major drop in national and world comparisons.
Playing a school sport enables you to bond with your teammates, making lifelong friends. Sports are fun and thrilling; they help kids get into shape. For years now there have been kids who play sports who also are very good in academics. Sports help kids get organized and teach them to balance their school work with sports. The article to start all the buzz about no sports in high school is written by
One piece of evidence is from scholastic news magazine, “Should Schools Get Rid of Sports” “A 2013 report from the Institute of Medicine, physically and active kids have more focus, are better problem solvers and score higher on tests.” Also from the scholastic news magazine, “Should Schools Get Rid of Sports” it states, “A 2012 study by the Datalys Center found that young athletes have higher scores on math and english than those who don't participate in sports.” And finally from scholastic news magazine, “Should Schools Get Rid of Sports” is says, “Today studies show that schools with big athletic programs tend to have lower dropout rates.” If we want these kind of academics we could bring back school sports. In conclusion, even though sports cut down school budgets they are a big tradition to school. “If you don't go to school, you can't play sports.”-Scott
Youth sports can be a learning experience or it can be a health risk to the athletes. Youth sports can teach young children the value of hard work and discipline or it can be emotionally and physically damaging. Three main points are how sports keep you healthy, how they build character, and the values that they will learn from sports and how they will use in the future. These three ideas prove that youth sports can be healthy, they build character, and can teach them the value of hard work and discipline for your kid.
First of all high school sports are not beneficial because it puts too much stress on the kids because they want to make their parents happy and want to keep their grades up or if they don’t they could get cut from the team . The pressure from the parents is sometimes too much. According to KCRA.com this statement is important because it highlights that they have to worry about not getting dropped from the team because they have to make sure grades are staying up and then they have to worry about their practice and being a valuable player on the team. According to helpguide.org this could lead to, a lot of stress and that could be bad for the student because they might get health
Many would disagree with me and say that high school sports actually have more positive benefits than negative benefits for students. For example a student in sports would be more active which would make them fitter and healthier. A student that in a team sport would make more friends which would improve their social
They could not only help those playing for the team they work for but also the opposing team, I’m sure they would treasure that. High schools athletics are very different than middle school athletics. High school athletes are always getting injured which alters their playing time and affects if they can get colleges to look at them for recruitment. Those who play sports in high school most likely have the vision to one day play in college. It would be very hard to play in college if you were injured throughout your high school career because then you would never get looks from colleges and you wouldn’t be getting better like everybody else.
Hockey goaltending for H.H Dow High School this has been more of a journey than a high school sport the last few years. Transferring from another school created eligibility challenges my sophomore year. My junior year had its struggles as but as upperclassmen it was getting better. Senior year has been the best so far only a few weeks into the season. This year ultimately decides where I play and what I do as I continue my hockey adventures after High school.
There are many possible reasons on why my high school football team was unsuccessful this year. Some of those reasons may; graduated seniors, underclassmen not seeing playing time, injuries, the coach being too much of a friend and more. It’s important for our school to have success in sports. We aren’t the most successful in academics. Most students go straight to the work force instead of college. If we don’t perform well in athletics, then we pretty much get no recognition, which in small town is really important. West Central (Winchester/Bluffs co-op) was founded in 2004. We have always had a successful basketball team, but our football program has had struggles. Particularly this year, the football team had the worst season since the co-op. They finished the season 2-7 and ended with a seven game losing streak.
It will encourage students to try their best to accomplish superior grades. It opens their eyes in a different perspective on behavior as well as stronger scholastic peer relationships. It gives students activities excluding school work, because teenagers generally focus their mind on unacceptable actions. Parents commonly show passion along with appreciation when their child/children play a sport. They get to have a closer relationship and be elaborate with them more often than normal. Frequently, students do not care about their reputation or acknowledge the adults’ opinions on themselves; but in my opinion, playing sports and being mostly involved with their schools presents an improved character while in school and once they graduate. I was once told that “Sports do not build character. They reveal it.” Additionally, self-esteem in high school is hard to come by, occasionally sports help! Sports cause you to interact with other people and uplift you to do better. It presents a sharpened perspective on your schoolwork, career, future, and life altogether. In some cases, playing a sport can benefit you in an enhanced form. Scholarships can be a broad opportunity for valuable players with a good education on their shoulders. As well as, college recruitment can be another option. Money is hard to come by for college and if that seems to be a struggle for a student playing a sport can help tremendously. That
Many would disagree with me and say that high school sports actually have more benefits than negativities for a student. For example a student in sports would be more active which would make them fitter and healthier. Without sports many high schoolers wouldn’t have the push to stay healthy and stay fit. Since the quote says that sports are one of the most effective ways getting rid of obesity, why would high schools want to get rid of the athletic programs? Injuries may occur while playing a sport but by not playing and staying active you will be at a higher risk of not staying healthy and fit. High School athletics not only keep students in shape but the sports actually can help keep your grades up. ¨A survey conducted by the Minnesota State High School League in 2007 and reported by the NFHS found that the average GPA of a high school athlete was 2.84, while a student who was not involved in athletics had an average GPA of 2.68.¨ ("10 Reasons Why Sports Help with Academics."
Benefits Everyone Different people have different views of high school sports. Some say they are a waste of money, time, energy and serve no purpose to the community. This is most definitely wrong. High school sports have proven again and again how beneficial they are for athletes, the community, school spirit, coaches and spectators.
Social character is a large skill that is taught through sports and student athletes have great social skills because in games and practices they are forced communicate with each other to build greater teamwork. "Character is a person's ability to deal with in a productive manner, situations that arise during competition that involve a certain emotional intensity. A certain grace and strength are involved in dealing with what I refer to as artificial life/death situations: making the play to win the game, wanting to take the last shot" (Rudd, 1999). What this statement is saying that more than half of what goes on during the course of a sporting event is mental and the rest is physical. In a game athletes will have to control their feelings
