I threw my books on my bed and approached the jacket slowly as if were my favorite football player that was offering a free autograph to only one person, and that person was me. I immediately took off my own jacket and put on the new jacket right away. I looked in my mirror and new that I had never looked better in my life. The silver studs over the crisp leather lining looked like a starry night sky. It was a little bit big, but that was good because I’d be able wear it longer.
“Your jackets in the closet.” my mom yelled. My heart skipped a beat as I slowly approached the closet. I opened it and was relieved to see that no jacket was in there.
“Yes!”I muttered under my breath. I ran into the kitchen hugged my mom as hard as I could. “Thank you, thank you, thank you!” I exclaimed.

During lunch Jerry McGregor and his “cool” friends asked if I wanted to sit with them. At recess though things turned south. I stayed in the back of Jerry “cool” group so Frankie T. (the playground terrorist) saw his chance and pulled me aside a bit forcefully.
“If you don’t give me that jacket in three seconds”, he stated in a deep guttural voice,”I’ll break every bone in your body.” I had a sudden moment of panic. What was I supposed to do??? With his arm raising and his hand clenching into a fist, I had a memory of my first day in middle school. My mom had told me that if anyone threatened me in any way, I should fight
Humans, throughout recorded history, have searched for a proper way of living which would lead them to ultimate happiness; the Nicomachean Ethics, a compilation of lecture notes on the subject written by Greek philosopher Aristotle, is one of the most celebrated philosophical works dedicated to this study of the way. As he describes it, happiness can only be achieved by acting in conformity with virtues, virtues being established by a particular culture’s ideal person operating at their top capacity. In our current society the duplicity of standards in relation to virtue makes it difficult for anyone to attain. To discover true happiness, man must first discover himself.
I would like to thank all of you for coming here today to help us, as a family, to heal, and to celebrate my mother’s life.
The silence was okay, she could’ve lived with that. But it was the coldness that scared her; the coldness suspended in the air between them: her mommy washing dishes in the kitchen, head bent, hair swooped to the side, hiding her left cheek, and her daddy, sitting on the sofa reading the Sunday paper in silent indifference. She was caught in the middle, with her toys scattered around her, shivering at the coldness of it all. She knew.
I want to thank all of my Mother’s friends and family for being here today to celebrate her life and to mourn her death. I’m sure she would be thrilled to see all of you here and I know it would have meant the world to her.
Countless individuals can relate to what Gary has gone through, and what he thought of certain objects he had, in specific that jacket. All Gary ever wanted was a jacket with black leather, belts around it that can tie down a whole small town, and studs on it. A jacket reminiscent of those the bikers wore. The story itself is thought-provoking, delightful, impressive, as well as breath of fresh air. Gary at one point stated that he would rather be cold in frigid weather than suffer the agony of wearing that hideous jacket. Who wouldn’t want to die of hypothermia on account of an atrocious jacket that mortifies you just by one look, simply for it being a total eye sore. What makes this story an interesting one is that he conveys his emotions and thoughts in a story-like manner despite it being an autobiography. From the start, Gary comfortably described downhill roller coaster of emotions and events in regards to that unsightly jacket. In defiance to what Gary had told his mother, she went and bought a jacket, not considering style, or taking into attention the details Gary gave of his ideal jacket, as a substitute of that amazing jacket he desired, he received a
As they started to get out of the car they could see their own warm breath hit the cold air and make an intense fog, when Kelsey’s mother told Wes and Kelsey to put on their shoes and all of a sudden she realized she had no shoes! She was in such a rush to get going she didn't even notice she put no shoes on as she ran out of the house. She looked over at her little brother and noticed he had no shoes either! Immediately the whole car was filled with emotion. Kelsey felt a mix of panic, embarrassment, and nervousness, Kelsey’s mother on the other hand, also felt panic, but also was full of anger and annoyance at her children's lack of shoes for their trip to chilly Wisconsin in the middle of fall! They had not packed any shoes because they were planning on wearing a pair up there and using those for the whole trip, but they were in such a rush that they had completely forgot to put them on at all. Their mother was completely panicked and had no clue what to do. Then they remembered they had some extra flip flops in the back for if they went swimming. Quickly they dug them out of the back and put them
I stood there just staring I could not move. Every time I moved o\n took a breath I felt him getting closer. Quickly, I had to do something but I did not know what. I feel like he has a gun or a weapon but I do not know for sure. I was 5’4 and 87lbs., and this guy had to be at least 6’9 and 250lbs.. There was no way that I would win in a fistfight so I just had to sit there and hope he would not see me hiding. I decided to run, I got shot in the leg.
“Thank you ma’am,” Jerry said. Then he did the most unexpected thing. He hugged me. I hugged him back. We stood there, enjoying the moment
I said to her as I got one of her big warm hugs. The rest of my family said their hellos, them we all went up the pebble stairs and into her small apartment. Right in front of the door was my 2 year old cousin, Rick. He was sitting on his mini, yellow chair with his breakfast on the mini table, in front of the TV. As soon as he saw us walk in, he ran to us giving us hugs.
On the kitchen floor he set her down, held her in his arms, and kissed her. “Thanks.”
The next morning the water running in the shower woke Marlene, but she lay there pretending to be asleep until Jerry dressed and left to play golf with his friend. She showered and dressed for the day. Opening her jewelry box, Marlene wondered which jewelry she should wear today, looking but not finding her favorite ones, she dumped the tray in the middle of the bed, and searched feverishly for her favorite earrings. “Oh, shit, Jerry will kill me if I lost them again, I laid them on the dresser. Where are they?”
“We cannot forget that reinforcing economic differences drives students further apart when schools should be drawing them closer together.” There are many problems in public schools with no uniforms. The use of school uniforms could eliminate some of these problems. Although school uniforms may take away a child’s individuality, there are more benefits than disadvantages to having school uniforms in public schools because school uniforms lessen the money spent on the latest fashion trends and school uniforms provide a positive school climate.
We got there and told her stories, we told her how was school, how was our life going, and especially we mentioned her how much we loved her. We kept remembering amazing and beautiful moments with my mother that will always remain in our hearts. Lastly my father gave another of his long and inspiring discourse, “ I really appreciate and admire you guys, your strength, your intelligence, your way of being. I’m really happy and I thanks God for having such two children like you, that I know that will always take good decisions, want the best for others, and most importantly that you love each other and will always remain
Growing up gay in God’s country, I have gotten used to the looks. The sideways glances, the whispers between mothers and daughters as they pass me in the mall. I always wonder, what are they saying? I tell myself I do not care, but still, it is human nature to wonder.
