Hockey goaltending for H.H Dow High School this has been more of a journey than a high school sport the last few years. Transferring from another school created eligibility challenges my sophomore year. My junior year had its struggles as but as upperclassmen it was getting better. Senior year has been the best so far only a few weeks into the season. This year ultimately decides where I play and what I do as I continue my hockey adventures after High school. Leaving AAA elite travel hockey was a hard decision. I knew there would be many things to consider. I was excited to be a part of a high school experience and still do online classes, but I would have to sit out the 1st half of the season due to transferring from an on-line school. The style of play would be different. Shots wouldn’t be as quick as the elite level and I had to adjust to old and bigger players. But the energy that high school hockey offers with the student fans is very motivating. I took a chance on a high school hockey experience, but my sophomore year was a big adjustment from the style of play I was used to. Driving daily 50 minutes each day was hard on me and my family and I didn’t feel much like part of the team at first. The attitude of the players was not what I expected. They didn’t seem to care as much as the teammates that I was used to. It was harder than I thought …show more content…
But I had more confidence as an upperclassman and felt more like I was part of the team and enjoyed the school spirit and my hockey team’s traditions. I was better prepared for the style of play and daily practices and when it was my time to finally be in the net I made the best of it and we finished the season with a strong push and looked forward to a great senior state
It was the beginning of a new softball season, and I couldn't wait to get out there with my team. At our first practice I remember feeling back at home on the field. Just when I thought this was going to be our teams best season, my parents moved me to a private school. Leaving what I was familiar with was not an easy task, and deciding if I would continue my passion of softball with a different team was even more difficult.
“The NHL (national hockey league) is not in the business of comforting people, they’re in the business of entertainment, and if fighting represents a way to differentiate themselves from an entertainment stand point, then fighting isn’t going anywhere” In the 2014-15 season 1,230 games were played, and out of those games 391 fights were in action. 29.91% of games had fights, 45 games had more than one fight. Taking fighting out of the game of hockey is too big of a risk. I think the fans will be disappointed and the entertainment level will go way down. In my paper I’m going to write about why fighting in hockey should stay and why people think it should also.
Hockey is one of the most dangerous sports to play today, not because of the fast pace of the game, but because of the some of the equipment that is used. The most punishing and non forgiving piece of equipment in hockey is the puck. The word puck became mainstream in 1867 in Canada. It is possible that Halifax natives, who were Irish, introduced the word to Canada. The hockey puck has evolved over the years it came into existence just like the game itself. People have tried and failed to think of news ways to make a hockey puck, but only one way has proved itself to be the only one. Without the puck there would be no hockey culture. Lets lace up the skates and skate our way into what the hockey culture is and take a look at how the puck has created this culture from the beginning of its time.
Hockey is Canada’s game as many Canadian’s eat, sleep, and breather hockey. Culturally, Canadians celebrate all facets of hockey and quickly ignore the dark side of the game. In Curtis Fogel’s article, Social Problems in Canadian Ice Hockey: An Exploration Through Film, he examines the social problems in Canada through the use of film. Prompted by pop-cultural depictions of violence, hazing, sexual assault, and drug use in hockey films, (Fogel’s) paper illustrates various social problems that currently exist in Canadian Ice Hockey (Fogel, 2014). In this examination, Fogel enlightens the reader of the dark side of Canada’s beloved game through the use of real life examples, and films that have depicted problems in the culture of
This is when I decided to try and become a member of the student council. I was elected and soon loved it. My school is very important to me and I wanted to do my very best to make it the best possible high school experience for not only me, but every student that attends White Bear Lake. I found that was helpful to have many different views on the council, and I think I brought a new view that was not accounted for before. Being a hockey captain my senior year, I was elected to be in Leadership Academy. This group meets and talks about how to most effectively lead our sports teams as well as the school. This is very important to me because as a leader I want to set the best example possible for my peers and this group allows me to improve my leadership skills to make them even better. I value this program very much because I think it will help me to succeed in the future, because these skills are lifelong skills to have. I have also became a math tutor for my classmates. Being a tutor is very important to me because it allows me to share my knowledge and help
Joining a high school baseball team was a commitment. It took over every second of my life; it occupied my every thought and motivated everything I did. My high school baseball team was not easy to become a part of. First I needed prove my skills in tryouts. Then I had to prove my credibility and demonstrate those skills in games while under pressure. Finally I needed to become a brother to every player on that team, I had to be there and have the backs of every single person who shared the dugout with me. My experiences of joining the team included needing to demonstrate and master the logos, ethos, and pathos skills required to be a member of that sacred brotherhood.
Each year I got better and advanced to higher levels teams. I even got the opportunity to train with one of the greatest goaltenders ever to play the game.

...tournament and placed 4th and I had an all-around good season. I have already set goals for my senior year. I plan on winning state and having another successful season. I want to look back on my high school career and remember how well I played and the great people that I have met.
And as my focus has changed from hockey when I was a child to basketball now many new doors have opened for me and I am very thankful. But it’s not over yet as I hope one day to play for my national basketball team and if all works out well maybe get a chance to get paid to play the game that I love.
Did you know three of the world's most popular sports were created right here in Canada? Our fine nation is the birthplace of three major sports: hockey, lacrosse and basketball. From the humble beginnings of playing with a ball and stick on ice, to playing a spiritually based game to honour one's creator, to wanting, to keep young phys ed students conditioned using a peach basket and a soccer-style ball, these three athletic pursuits were all established by Canadians. This is how these three sports came to be.
My first year of high school bowling I was placed on the junior varsity team, as a freshman it was standard. It also gave me valuable experience in how high school bowling works. My second year I was moved up to the varsity team and had a big shoe to fill from the year prior. We were the number one team in our district that year, guaranteeing us a spot in the state tournament. The team had gone to the tournament before, but it was my first time. We could have bowled better, but we did not do that terrible. We knew it would be close for us to go on to the next
I didn't realize how much I enjoyed them until it was too late. I would go watch our sports teams mostly volleyball, but I also watch our soccer and football team. One of my closest friends was on the volleyball team so me and my group would go watch him play. Volleyball is a extraordinary sport to watch especial in person, It was a really exciting time. We made him signs and we became regarded as superfans. I actually participated in Spirit week and the events they had leading up to Christmas such as ugly sweater day. I had fun participating in those events, I wish I would have done it sooner. The three other years of high school I didn’t do much except join the drama club sophomore year and continued it until senior year. Reflecting back made me angry because at the end of my high school career was when I really started enjoying high school. When I was enjoying my time the most it all went away so quick. That really got to me ,but instead of experiencing sadness about my reflection on high school, I felt outraged; I was angry with myself about the opportunities I missed during high school. As I mentioned previously sports was something that I regret not doing the most. As Well as all
Teammates of mine were itching for another chance at a state title, and I was ready to be apart of that. We had a successful season, playing some astonishing courses across the state, and made our way to the first state championship at Blackwolf Run. We persevered through the rain and wind on a difficult golf course to win the team title by 3 strokes, and I managed to win the medalist by just 1 shot. As I look back, it was without doubt one of the happiest moments of my life, and moving schools finally paid off. Similarly, my junior year was almost just as successful, although we fell just short of repeating a state title.
