People disagree with each other, it is a fact of life. No matter if it is about how water is or is not wet or whether you put the milk or the cereal in the bowl first, people will always disagree. Everyone has minor conflicts, never the less they always share similarities. Everyone has different opinions based on their perspective and their beliefs. In the movie High Noon and the story “The Most Dangerous Game”, there are characters who have different voices because of what their environment is. In both stories, the characters have enemies that fight against them, making them retaliate. In High Noon and “The Most Dangerous Game”, the tables have turned and the protagonists learn what it feels like to have been hunted, through many difficult …show more content…
situations that compare and contrast in both stories. In every story the main character confronts their opponent.
In High Noon, the antagonist is Frank Miller, who comes back for revenge for being prosecuted for murder by Will Kane. Will Kane states “I sent a man up five years ago for murder. He was supposed to hang, but up north they committed it to life. Now he’s free—I don’t know how. Anyway, it looks like he’s coming back’” (Foreman 295). Will Kane is not the type of character to run away from his problems, and he is not about to start now, so instead of going on his honeymoon, he went looking for trouble. In “The Most Dangerous Game”, General Zeroff is the type of person that acts superior to everybody, and he has the best of the best when it comes down to food, clothing, or even residency. He has different intentions than Miller though, he says in the beginning of the story “ Life is for the strong, to be lived by the strong and if need be taken by the strong. The weak of the world were put here to give the strong pleasure. I am strong. Why should I not use my gift? If I wish to hunt, why should I not?” (Connell 222). General Zeroff shows that he does not intend to get revenge on people, he wants to show that he is strong and that he is here for a reason. The difference between the movie and the story, is that Frank Miller wants revenge, but General Zeroff wants to prove that he is strong and put here for a …show more content…
reason. In everyday life, there are things that surround you, things that make a difference and contribute to the way you act or survive.
An example would be of someone that lives in the mountains, they would adapt to cold weather better than someone who lives in Miami. The same thing happens in High Noon and “The Most Dangerous Game”, depending on where the story takes place, different parts contribute to how the story plays out. “[Ext—From KANE’s point of view. It is completely deserted CAMERA PANS to other extreme of the street. It, too, is empty.]” (Foreman 326). Many people refused to help Kane because they were afraid of what the other towns would think if the isolated townspeople helped Kane out. While Kane was fighting the battle, the townspeople were hiding, refusing to help someone who has helped them more than once. “His eyes made out the shadowy outlines of a palatial chateau; it was set on a high bluff, and on three sides of it cliffs dived down to where the sea licked greedy lips in the shadows” (Connell 215). In “The Most Dangerous Game” the isolated island helps contribute to the story because if the island was not isolated, then nothing would take place there and its reputation would cease to exist. The setting in both stories are very similar because they are both isolated, which means there is no one there to help the struggling main
characters. Every story has a main character in it, without the main characters actions, there would be no story. In High Noon and “The Most Dangerous Game”, the main characters are Will Kane and Sanger Rainsford. They were both put in situations that changed their point of view on everything. In High Noon, Will Kane says, “You risk your skin catching killers and the juries let them go so they can come back and shoot at you again” (Foreman 307). In this situation, Kane is being forced to hide, which is changing him from a hunter to hunted. “‘For the hunter,’ amended Whitney. ‘Not for the jaguar.’ ‘Don’t talk rot, Whitney,’ said Rainsford. ‘You’re a big-game hunter, not a philosopher. Who cares how a jaguar feels?” (Connell 212). When Rainsford says this, he does not realize how the game will change and he will be hunted by General Zeroff. Once Rainsford was in this position, he used his head and fought back by setting traps, instead of attacking Zeroff like some of the other “visitors”. Will Kane and Sanger Rainsford were both put in challenging situations that changed them from the hunters to the hunted. In High Noon and “The Most Dangerous Game”, Will Kane and Sanger Rainsford learn what it feels like to be hunted, when they were put in serious situations. There is a small difference in these two stories, but they also have similarities that help the stories to produce similar results. Such as the antagonists, Frank Miller and General Zeroff, they had different reasons for being “the hunter”, one was for revenge and the other to prove a trait. One of the main components that made the stories similar was the setting, they both took place in an isolated place and did not have help from anyone. In addition to setting, a key similarity between High Noon and “The Most Dangerous Game” is how both of the main characters went from hunters to being hunted. Between the movie and the story, there were differences and similarities that made an impact on how High Noon and “The Most Dangerous Game” resulted in the end.

“I hunt more dangerous game….” Similarities and differences can appear anywhere, especially in the short story and the movie called The Most Dangerous Game. They have similar, yet different expositions, characters, and plots with conflicts. Many people say that books or short stories are better than movies because of the similarities and differences that are found. Books or short stories are usually more descriptive, informative, and do not stray too far from the central idea or main theme, while movies only fall into one or two of these categories. Movies hardly ever fall into all three categories, however if they do the movies become better. This is not the case with The Most Dangerous Game. One place where movies and short stories have major similarities and differences is at the beginning of the story or the exposition.
The underlying themes of the stories are l valid contrasts between the works. In some portions the themes are of the same facets, such as how in both books two men have a direct conflict between
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest Vs. Dead Poets Society "Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference." (Robert Frost) In today's world there is no tolerance for the individual thinker. It is not acceptable to modify or bend the rules of society.
The Effectiveness of Goldeneye's Pre-credit Sequence at Gaining the Viewers Attention The film Golden Eye (1995) is a well known film. Are friends the best resources when in need? Yes, no? Well in these stories they are. Like in Harry Potter, he used his friends all the time like when he is wondering Voldemort is still really still alive who are the people that he comes to…his friends. Or in The Maze Runner Thomas when thomas is wondering about if he should go out in the maze and face the greevier’s. Who are the people that he goes to...his friends! In these two stories Harry Potter and The Maze Runner there are some similarities, but there are also some differences.
9/11 is a horrific moment in history, and is well recognized for it’s spawn of mass hysteria in America. Because of this, The Crucible and 9/11 are highly similar in that both situations caused people to become so fearful and paranoid to the point where they began to treat others unfairly, and become more vulnerable/gullible to people’s selfish schemes. In the Crucible, the people of Salem wished for there to be safety in their town and in their religion. However the fear of witchcraft interfered with that, causing a mass hysteria to flood throughout the town. They began to point fingers. It also caused them to be vulnerable. hence becoming more gullible. These same situations happened to America after 9/11 occurred.
Isolation plays a major role in the setting where not only the island but the town is also surrounded by nothing. "Street from Kane's point of view. It is completely deserted" (Foreman 326). Kane is all alone and he has no one by his side, ready to help him. He gave his own life for this town but the town didn't give their share back to him. The Most Dangerous Game has a seeking that is very dark and refers to the color black very often. It is very silent and deep with secrets all throughout the stories. "An apprehensive night crawled slowly by like a wounded snake, and sleep didn't visit Rainsford, although the silence of a dead world was on the jungle" (Connell 227). He is scared and frustrated because he is isolated from the "real world" and is all alone and independent. The setting plays an important role in displaying the similarity, which is
Two men with two different ways of life are connected through a time period and these two words: determination and dedication. Erik Larson does a great job developing these two characters in The Devil in the White City. On one hand, Daniel Burnham is trying to build the world’s fair in Chicago, on the other H.H. Holmes is a dedicated doctor who is determined to open a hotel for the world 's fair. Burnham is determined and works diligently to get the job done, and he won’t stop for any reason. Holmes driven dedication towards this isn’t for the common reason of making money, but instead he wants to create a safe place that he can murder people. The major difference is that Burnham choose the better path, so he was able to help others in the process. Burnham gave a blank canvas to so many inventors and creators, so that they could change the way things are viewed in the world. These two men show the opposite ends of the spectrum, which is why we have different results caused by their determination and dedication.
The disturbing scene where different nationalities badger their opinions on each other shows poor communication and horrible stereotyping. Pino's Italian slang, Mookies black talk, and Korean obscenities are all mixed together to show how communication grows impossible among different ethnic groups. Spike Lee is trying to show how nonsense language results in a snowball effect which worsens any situation. Lorene Cary states her view on this situation when she comments, "We need more of them, not less; more words . . . What I do want is language: fighting words, love poems, elegance, dissonance, dissing, signifying, alarms, whistles, scholarly texts, political oratory, the works. Without it, we're dead."("As plain as Black and White") Maybe these "fighting words" unlock the truth about the communication plague, spreading throughout history. Leonard P. Zakin once said, " . . . it's all about conversation, not dialogue."("Scaling the Walls of Hatred") Like the characters in Do the Right Thing, present day people can scream at each other all they want and will not get anywhere because outcry is not conversation. Conversation is talking, explaining, discussing, informing, and most definitely listening.
The first topic that is found in the movie that was taught in class is conflict. Conflict is expressed disagreement over perceived incompatible goals. Although it may seem it, conflict is not always a negative thing. Conflict is needed and can help growth of relationships. Many conflicts are started because people have different conversational styles. In class, we learned that there are guidelines that one should follow in order to help prevent conflict or help solve it. The guidelines include clarifying goals, helping others save face, using constructive criticism skills, using empathic listening skills, monitoring nonverbal be...
Although there were many concepts that were present within the movie, I choose to focus on two that I thought to be most important. The first is the realistic conflict theory. Our textbook defines this as, “the view that prejudice...
Being able to overcome anything in life is a great feeling. There is a special feeling in the body and the mind when the body achieves a goal, and the mind gets a feeling of satisfaction. Since, the mind chooses to go against the body's will to quit, you have to be mentally strong. In Richard Connell's short story “The Most Dangerous Game,” large game hunter Sanger Rainsford is tested in the following ways: strong versus the weak, the value of life, and becoming what he fears. To begin with, Rainsford has to pose as the weak against the strong, General Zaroff.
In the famous novel and movie series, Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, an average teenage girl, Bella Swan, is forced to move from Arizona (where she lived with her mother) to Washington to start an almost new life with her father. She attends a small-town high school with mostly average people, besides one family, the Cullens. As Bella and Edward Cullen get closer, she uncovers a deep secret about him and his family. Their relationship faces many hard challenges and conflicts as the story develops. Both the novel and movie share very similar storylines, however, differ in many ways. From themes to author’s craft, or to relationships, these important parts of the story highlight the significant differences and similarities of Twilight.
In conclusion, the isolation that occurred in both stories either changed the characters for the worst or for the best. However, the way the characters chose to deal with their situations will not really benefit them in the long run; there are better ways to handle both of these cases. Our characters will run into consequences at some point, and being trapped or cut off from civilization will not help. Our characters are able to make the ultimate decisions on their own, but they will soon realize how trapped they really are with no way of getting out.
