Are You a Modern Day Hero?
Not all heroes have to be well known in the public eye, anyone can be a hero because if you help others in a time of need you are considered a modern day hero. Heroes are not perfect, and if you put someone else before you, you are a hero. Most people define a hero as someone or group of people that take action to help others in a moral cause, as stated in text 2, What Really is a Hero, Anyway? Heroes are just ordinary normal people that you pass everyday.
Anyone can be a hero, if you stand up for what you believe is right and you aren’t just a bystander you are a hero. A hero takes chances and risks so that the outcome of their actions can come out positive. For example in text 2, What Really is a Hero? says that if you are being bullied, or you are being spoken to in a way that you don’t like than you may need a hero to protect you. Follow your conscious and except the right morals. Don’t just watch someone be violated; you should help him or her. Some people are cynical when it comes to doing what is right. Do not just do one good thing and expect to be ...
Assignment details: Analyze the components of the hero’s journey. Basically, support the argument that Jaws follows the epic hero cycle. Webster’s dictionary defines a hero as any man admired for his courage, qualities or exploits, especially in war. Some people attribute the term hero mostly to war. My personal definition of a hero is someone who takes a stand against evil or an unjust cause. The term hero can be applied to anyone, it isn’t necessary to save the world from explosion to be a hero. The act of standing up for a friend can also be called a heroic act.
A person who overcomes antagonistic and unnecessary issues in a mature and powering manor. That is the definition of a hero to me. Someone who is being hurt and sees others hurt from the actions and takes charge and does everything in his power to change it. Someone who puts others before themselves and acts in the most chivalrous way. The definition of a hero is different for everyone. Some one might think of a hero as someone who can lift a car and put it on their back, or gives a dying person their kidney. Yes all of those people are forms of hero’s. You can’t tell someone that they are not a hero just because they don’t change into a disguise in a telephone both or can throw lightning bolts from a cloud. Everyone is a hero in their own way.
What is a hero? A hero can be classified as a number of things. A hero can be a person who in the opinions of others has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal. Ervin Staub, a holocaust survivor from Hungary and as scholar on altruistic behavior, has written, "Goodness like evil often begins in small steps. Heroes evolve; they aren't born. Very often the rescuers make only a small commitment at the start, to hide someone for a day or two. But once they had taken that step, they begin to see themselves differently, as someone who helps. What starts as mere willingness becomes intense involvement." The business man, Oskar Schindler, demonstrated a powerful example
Anyone can truly be a hero, even in real life. Heroes can be people who simply have an idea and decide to grow onto that idea and have it done. For example, Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi were real life heroes who started out as ordinary people but had a dream and made a huge difference in the end. Nelson Mandela, a Civil Rights activists, once said, “We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in your hands to make a difference” (Lazaro). Nelson Mandela was trying to say that anybody can make a difference, but it is up to that person or people to make that change. One simple change could cause any simple person to have a major change in lifestyle just because they decided to step up and do something. Furthermore, anyone can be a hero, it doesn’t matter what one’s background is, one can make even the simplest of changes and become a hero to oneself and the people around them.
A hero is someone who invests their time helping others rather than themselves. They are always conscious of their surroundings and environment. Heroes help their enemies and friends regardless of the circumstances. A hero is also someone who is humble and knows when to be protective of others and themselves. Heroes are people who acknowledge flaws, and fix mistakes, those were my own definition of a hero. In “Undocumented Immigrant”, Jose Antonio Vargas tells the truth about his illegal status in the United States. Not only was he an immigrant in the United States, he was his own hero. Vargas proved that he is a hero through code switching, bravery and honesty.
Dictionaries’ definitions of the word hero are exceedingly vague. A standard dictionary limits the definition of a hero to, “a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities” (Dictionary.com). Heroes are people, not just men, who are generous, courageous, and take every event as part of the whole stream of life rather than as a critical moment. Humanity, endurance, and perseverance are other critical characteristics of a deserving candidate for such a title.
In my opinion, a hero is someone whose principal purpose, whether it be in one situation or over the span of their entire life, is to help others while simultaneously making the world a better place. When the word hero is brought up, the most prevailing image that comes to mind is superheroes like Batman and Superman. But I don’t think you have to have superpowers or even be well known in order to be a hero. There are people all over the world whose intention is to do selfless deeds and go out of their way for others without expectation of obtaining anything in return. These are the type of people I like to consider everyday heroes. They go through life just trying to be the best they can and trying to help as many people as they can. Whether
So what defines one as a hero? Well, a definition of what a hero is “A person noted for special achievement in a particular field” (hero, n.d). Our concept of a hero alters drastically from person to
An English proverb states, “ A hero is a man who is afraid to run away”. I agree with this proverb, because when you see a hero in a comic book, they have super cool back stories, are not afraid to fight, and stare danger in the face and not blink. They are not afraid of anything. That’s nice to look up to, but they are not real. Our definition of a hero is too much for one man to become, you can do something honorable, heroic, but you will never actually be a hero because it's too much, in real life. Heroes don’t just do it so they can get paid, or respect. What really determines whether someone is a hero is if they choose to do something about it in a bad situation. We have people that do heroic acts, for example, people putting their lives before others. Those people cannot be heroes because they get paid to do it, they are, firefighters, cops, and military, they get paid to help people, so they aren't considered a hero.
What makes a hero? To me a hero is a person that does whatever is necessary to protect the people they’re serving or protecting. In the dictionary it says a hero is “a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.”
According to google.com a hero is someone who “is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievments, or noble equalities.” (google.com). For example, superman , superman is an all time american classic modern hero who is admired for his courage and for saving earth multiple times from super villains. Another example of a hero is Beowulf. Beowulf was created around 1000 AD and was known far and wide throughout the lands for his selflessness, bravery, and courage .
Whether accidental or intentional, aspects of our lives have shown us that there is a hero inside every one of us, but the choice lies inside the beholder to act on these skills or let them remain hidden. A hero isn’t necessarily someone running around in tights with a cape, what it means to be a hero has been revolutionized by many aspects of our new society. A hero in our new society can widely be defined as someone who decides to abandon their own needs and wants in order to attempt to help others in any possible way even the tiniest. There is a great evil that has an arisen in this great country that deserves an equal opponent to help stop this evil and this is where my future lies. The evil that has engulfed our world
You also don’t have to kill anyone, conquer foreign land, or risk your life to be a hero. Anyone who influences anyone else by saving or helping save his or her lives is a hero. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. changed the lives of millions of people by bringing justice to minorities. Mahatma Gandhi, one of the greatest heroes, led a nonviolent revolution to free his country.
Heroes can be can be anyone; they can be everywhere. But every society needs heroes (The Making of a Hero). Surprisingly every society has one; we just don't see them because we don't bother to open our eyes. But if you open them you shall see, they can be anyone, and that's why you must look carefully.
