Recommended: What defines a hero
“A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles” (Christopher Reeve). There are several different definitions of a hero, and people have various opinions of what considers someone to uphold this title. Everyone has their own thoughts on who is a hero and what makes them a hero. What really is a hero? I believe that a hero is someone who possesses bravery, courage, selflessness, and respect, where he or she uses those traits to impact other’s lives in an unforgettable way.
This world most definitely needs heroes. Without heroes, there would be many unmotivated individuals because heroes give people the passion to set goals and achieve them. Who else would people look up to

if this world didn’t have heroes? Heroes give people hopes, dreams, and a drive to succeed in their journey through life. A hero inspires a person, which results in them bringing out their true character and making a difference in other’s lives. Traits of a hero include: being courageous, dependable, caring, responsible, adventurous, brave, respectful, strong-willed, selfless, and ambitious. These traits affect how a hero reacts to different situations, in an unforgettable way, which makes others strive to possess these traits. The actions of a hero mold others into becoming heroes themselves. Something non-heroic to me is when the majority of celebrities and athletes are looked at as heroes just because they are famous. Many people look up to celebrities and athletes because of their popularity, their looks, and their wealth. To me, fame does not define who a hero is. How many celebrities and athletes brag about themselves and think they are better than others because of their talent? You know as well as I do, that some of these individuals gloat about how wonderful they are and take the glory to receive attention. Many people look upon these stars and athletes as heroes, when really they are just talented figures. For example, a professional athlete that is the star of the game, is looked at as a hero by many because of how many points he or she scored or prevented others from scoring. This player typically looks at himself or herself as being a hero also. A true hero in my eyes is someone who is protective and does their best to ensure an individuals safety and well-being. Whether it is a soldier, a police officer, a firefighter, a doctor, or even someone on the street. You will never hear a true hero boosting about their heroic actions. It saddens me to think how pathetic some of our society can be when identifying a true hero. A hero is not a title that should be given with ease; it should be given to those who act in life changing ways, which are forever unforgettable.
My mom is a Social Worker and because of that, she is a hero. She sacrifices her life often for families that are in need. She assists others in the best possible way that she can, while trying to solve their problems. She juggles multiple problems, decisions, and tasks while taking care of her own life and family. My parents support me in everything I do and because of that, they are my heroes. They’re always there to tell me what I do right and what I do wrong, to guide me on a successful path, to listen to me, support me, comfort me, and continuously lift me up when I’m down. No matter the situation, I know that I can count on my parents for anything. They are truly my heroes, forever and always. Odysseus is a hero because he overcomes many dangerous creatures and people. He fights through battles to try and make it back to his family. “I tied them silently together, twining cords of willow from the ogre’s bed; then slung a man under each middle one to ride there safely, shielded left and right So three sheep could convey each man. I took the wooliest ram, the choicest of the flock, and hung myself under his kinky belly, pulled up tight, with fingers twisted deep in sheepskin ringlets for an iron grip” (Homer, 746). I chose this quote because when Odysseus and his men were in a bind, Odysseus stepped up and acted as a leader when trying to get them out of a dangerous situation and into a safer environment. Odysseus strategizes plans to try and save others from being harmed. Even when he is under pressure in difficult situations, he seems to pull out by acting in heroic ways. People don’t have to act in the same way in order to be a hero. It’s an action that impacts others in a positive way that makes a person worthy of being a true
hero. Overall, there are many different heroes that are honored in various ways. So why are heroes so important? Why should you care about what heroes do for others? Heroes and important and you should care about them because they save others and inspire people to act in courageous ways to have an influence on others. Again, a hero is someone who has traits of bravery, courage, selflessness, and respect, where he or she uses each of those traits to impact other’s lives in a positive manner that is unforgettable. So tell me, who’s your hero?
A person who overcomes antagonistic and unnecessary issues in a mature and powering manor. That is the definition of a hero to me. Someone who is being hurt and sees others hurt from the actions and takes charge and does everything in his power to change it. Someone who puts others before themselves and acts in the most chivalrous way. The definition of a hero is different for everyone. Some one might think of a hero as someone who can lift a car and put it on their back, or gives a dying person their kidney. Yes all of those people are forms of hero’s. You can’t tell someone that they are not a hero just because they don’t change into a disguise in a telephone both or can throw lightning bolts from a cloud. Everyone is a hero in their own way.
The years after the civil war left one half of America, the north, satisfied and the other half, the south, mostly dissatisfied. Therefore the last third of the nineteenth century, 1865-1900, was a time period in which America was mending, repairing, improving, reshaping, and reconstructing its society, economy, culture, and policies. Basically it was changing everything it stood for. This continual change can be seen in the following events that took place during this time. These events are both causes and effects of why America is what it is today. These are some examples: the reconstruction of the south, the great movement towards the west, the agricultural revolution, the rise of industrialism, the completion of the transcontinental railroad, and America's growth to gaining world power. All of these are reasons and events that characterize America as being an ever-changing nation.
In my opinion, a hero is someone whose principal purpose, whether it be in one situation or over the span of their entire life, is to help others while simultaneously making the world a better place. When the word hero is brought up, the most prevailing image that comes to mind is superheroes like Batman and Superman. But I don’t think you have to have superpowers or even be well known in order to be a hero. There are people all over the world whose intention is to do selfless deeds and go out of their way for others without expectation of obtaining anything in return. These are the type of people I like to consider everyday heroes. They go through life just trying to be the best they can and trying to help as many people as they can. Whether
What makes a hero? To me a hero is a person that does whatever is necessary to protect the people they’re serving or protecting. In the dictionary it says a hero is “a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.”
A hero is a man who is distinguished by exceptional courage, nobility. and strength to carry out tasks that involve great risks. A hero can also be a person who fights for other people to help or save them. from their fears and fears. He opposes the villain - a person who does wicked or intentionally harm others in some way, emotionally or otherwise.
The word “hero” has several definitions. In Greek mythology, a hero was originally a demigod. A hero can be the principle character in a play, movie, novel, or poem. A hero can even simply mean someone who is discerned by outstanding courage, dignity, or power. Even though there a many different types of heroes, they have all been through a journey with many obstacles that they had to overcome. The journey of a hero is one huge cycle, starting at the home of the hero and ending at the same place, the home. There are two very important stages of journey cycle—the road of trials and crisis/salvation. The road of trials stage is basically the obstacles the potential hero had to overcome. The crisis/salvation stage is the disaster that occurred and how the hero was saved from it. Odysseus faced many obstacles, and there were many crises that he underwent. The journey of Odysseus was mythological. He left his homeland of Ithaca to go fight in the Tro...
What is a hero? That is the question that has many different answers depending on who you ask. There are some pretty popular answers to that question. One of those answers is; “A hero is someone who helps other people, or helps to make other people's lives better.” Another is; “A hero is a person who tries to make the world a better place.” or “A hero is a person who does something that is more than what is expected.” Still others are “A hero is someone that doesn't do something for his or her own problems but for the benefit of others” and “A hero is a person that doesn't want to be a hero just to be famous.” Those were just some statements about what people think a hero is, but what about the qualities a hero should have?
A hero can be generalized as a fiction character, with powers, strength, and abilities beyond mankind, but they are so much more than that. What defines a hero? "Heroism is trying your hardest, no matter the obstacles to go beyond the needs of yourself to help others." - (Springboard page 85). Your local firefighter is a hero. Your teacher is a hero. Your grandpa is a hero. Your mother is a hero. Your neighbor is a hero. Even you are a hero. We all have the characteristics of a hero as people. But a true hero puts behind all other things the we have as humans; Fear, selfishness, ignorance, greed, evil, wrong doing, etc.
You also don’t have to kill anyone, conquer foreign land, or risk your life to be a hero. Anyone who influences anyone else by saving or helping save his or her lives is a hero. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. changed the lives of millions of people by bringing justice to minorities. Mahatma Gandhi, one of the greatest heroes, led a nonviolent revolution to free his country.
There are many types of heroes (such as the ones in comic books, myths, movies, or even just everyday life heroes) but all of them have perseverance when they’re going through a conflict. Heroes are role models and they’re people that we look up too. They all have unique and special qualities that make one another different from each other. For example policemen battle crime everyday and when they’re overcoming a conflict they have determination, courage and other traits that people admire them for and that make them as a hero. Typically a hero is admired for their achievement/actions and qualities.
There are many types of people that can be considered heroes in this day and age. People like soldiers, firefighters, police officers, doctors, blood and organ donors,
In today's modern times we hear the word hero all of the time. The news media throws the term around as if it is an everyday word. What exactly is a hero? Who, or what, can be classified as heroic? The correct definition of the word hero is: One invested with heroic qualities in the opinions of others. That is a fine definition for books and intellectual minds. To the average person, however, a hero is much more.
Do you have a hero? I have a hero but my definition of a hero might be different for what you are thinking because my definition of a hero is hard working, caring, and strong. I picked this person because he is an inspiration to me.
“What is a hero?” The definition of a hero according to Merriam Webster is, “a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability”. However, there are many people that will disagree with this definition. Heroes are everywhere in life.
Heroes are perceived with a cape and a superpower but, that is not entirely true. Once said by Joseph Campbell, “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” That quote means heroes are much more than what media depicts them to be. A hero is a person who gets back up when they fall down, a hero is selfless, and also a hero is someone who has courage.
