Courage. When defined, it can mean either “the ability to do something that frightens one” or “strength in the face of pain or grief.” My role model has to do with both of those definitions. Her name is Hermione Granger. Obviously, she is not the person one would expect for me to choose. If you evaluate her throughout the series, she is courageous, brave, and a hero. As an eleven-year-old girl, she stood up to her teachers and got Harry and Ron out of trouble because they had just saved her from the mountain troll. In the seventh and final book, she wiped her parents’ memories but continued on fighting against Lord Voldemort. In Hermione’s case, ethical behavior was a part of her bravery. Hermione knew that the path the Death Eaters
were following was not the correct path. If it meant death, destruction, and pain to others, Hermione knew that was not right. However, morality is not always needed to be brave and to make the best directions. Circumstances may not always allow morality to be obtained before the event that involves bravery occurs. However, if those events occur of the span of seven years, I believe that ethical behavior and morality will affect the outcome. Ordinary people (or witches and wizards) can become heros. For example, Harry Potter’s parents’ bravery caused him, just a baby, to become the symbol of hope. He was just an orphan boy who did not understand his past, but he later destroyed the man that had caused the wizarding world so much pain. Situations may occur in people’s everyday lives that force them to become heros. In the Harry Potter series, the golden trio, as Harry, Ron, and Hermione are known, has to make large decisions that involve bravery. For example, Harry participated in the Triwizard Tournament, Ron offered to sacrifice his life on multiple occasions, and Hermione decided to drop out of school so she could help fight the Dark Lord. They were all terrified, but they followed through and knew what they had to do. Maybe we will never have to make such large life-or-death decisions, but we can do something as standing by our friends when it can be dangerous or standing up to those who doubt or do not believe you. Although bravery is remembered when it is a large act, there are small acts of bravery. Recall the first time you ever rode a bike. If you were anything like me, you were terrified and did not want to do it. It took courage and bravery to start pedalling down the street, but you did it. It no longer scares you. Maybe people won’t remember our small acts of bravery as much as they remember Harry, Ron, and Hermione, but we will. Courage isn’t always a choice. Sometimes, as in Harry Potter, it’s a way of life. You might never stop being frightened, but you will continue acting on what is right and what is wrong. Were you scared to take that test? You could have easily skipped school. Were you afraid of standing up to that bully? You could have ignored the situation completely. We may not notice it, but we are being courageous and brave on the daily.
easily take on any task. Courage is not the absence of fear but rather the
Courage is having the strength to do something that is frightening to most people. It can be something large scale like the responders on 9/11 risking their lives for hundreds of people. Courage can also be something of smaller scale but just as significant like standing up for a black man in a town of racial prejudice. In Harper Lee’s novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, many of the characters she has initiated show courageous qualities. One of those characters is Atticus Finch, father of Jem and Scout who demonstrates courage many times throughout the novel. Standing up for his beliefs, restraining from the negligent tauntings of his neighbors and defending a man whose innocence will not be proved, all show Atticus is the most courageous character

In Harry potter and the philosopher's stone she is shown as an unfriendly know-it-all, as she is constantly correcting people and seemingly arrogantly answering questions in class. Whilst also keeping to herself. For these reasons, no one really cared to know her. Her friendship with Harry and Ron only came about after the pair rescued her from a troll. When they got in trouble, she readily took the blame. Through this, the pair were enabled to see past her snobby know it all behaviour.
However, she is still able to prove herself worthy of the title. As we follow along with her character in the movie, she is not only intelligent, but often times she takes on the role of a leader, as she guides Ron and Harry in the right direction. Also, she has an admirable character development. This can be seen throughout the series as she evolves into a brave, selfless and strong-willed woman. As previously mentioned, most of Hermione's characteristic traits go against the common beliefs that are tied to women as she proves to everyone that she is intelligent, loyal, courageous and is just as good as boys.
One of the best explanations of courage is the following by Maya Angelou: “One isn’t necessarily born with courage, but one is born with potential. “Courage - a perfect sensibility of the measure of danger, and a mental willingness to endure it.” Courageous people understand the danger that they face when they act how they do. As stated by Yeung Kathryn, “You get in life what you have the courage ask for”, courage is a highly acclaimed trait that shows the action on the consequences of fears and doubts. This is not a single characteristic. It is the combination of numerous quality such as bravery, passion, faith and so on which makes a perfect human being. Though it is very easy to pronounce, it needs lots of struggle to raise up. The value of courage is profound by motivation behind it. By being brave simply is not considered as courage.
