Henry Kissinger - Hillary Clinton's Mentor Henry Kissinger was a former national security adviser and Secretary of State during the late 60’s and 70’s. In 2014 Clinton reviewed Kissinger’s new world order book and called him a friend whose counsel she had relied on. A friend is a bit of an understatement, the two regularly take winter holidays together with his wife Nancy in the Dominican Republic. The two are very very good friends and share many of the same ideologies and practices. Greg Grandin, a history professor at the New York University, summed up Henry Kissinger quite nicely. Kissinger prolonged the Vietnam War for five pointless years. He illegally bombed Cambodia and Laos. Goaded Nixon to wiretap staffers and journalists, Bore …show more content…
Supported coups and death squads throughout Latin America and ingratiated himself within the first-generations of Neocans such as Dick Cheney and Paul Wolfowitz, who had taken American militarism into its next calamitous level. And if that wasn’t enough, here are some terrible quotes by Henry Kissinger that were recently released by WikiLeaks. “The emigration of Jews from the Soviet Union is not an objective of American foreign policy. And if they put Jews into gas chambers in the Soviet Union, it is not an American concern, maybe a humanitarian concern.” “How many people did Khmer Rouge Foreign Minister Leng Sary kill? Tens of thousands? You tell the Cambodians, I the Khmer Rouge, that we will be friends with them. They are murderous thugs but we won’t let that stand in the way. We are prepared to improve relations with them. Tell them the latter part but don’t tell them what I said before.” “It is an act of insanity and national humiliation to have a law prohibiting the President from ordering the assassination. I don’t see why we need to stand by and watch a country go communist due to the irresponsibility of its people. The issues are much too important for the Chilean voters to be left to decide for
While the economic recession certainly influenced this preference of the Clinton administration, it can also be attributed to the same distaste for foreign intervention among the public that impacted Bush’s limited engagement in Iraq in 1991 (the “Vietnam Syndrome”). As can be witnessed in the aforementioned 1999 foreign policy speech, Clinton’s belief in “assertive multilateralism” (a term coined by his Secretary of State Madeline Albright) relied more heavily on free trade and international organisations such IMF and World Bank. Indeed, towards the end of the speech, he declared that while efforts should be made to “keep our soldiers out of war”, the United States should, at the same time, “finally pay both our dues and our debts to the United
... In addition to being powerful, his ruthless murders made him a dangerous man too. This specific case in Latin American history comes to show how economic “stability” does not always mean happiness and wealth. The Dominican Republic’s economy was stable, but all the wealth belonged to one man, Trujillo. A Nation’s wealth in the hands of one man only means that the Nation’s safety and life-force also rest in his hands.
Salvador Allende promised to redistribute Chile's income (only two percent of the population received forty-six percent of the income), nationalize major industries (especially the copper companies), and to expand relations with socialist and communist countries. Allende's presidency presented a threat to the United States; a man with such aspirations would have to stray from United States policies and the policies of all other countries. Allende would neither respect nor consider the work the United States had done for them in the past. The United States would no longer be able to act as a parasite, sucking the money out of Chile. The U.S. decided it must stop this man from rising to power as soon as possible.

I intend to outline the background of the political circumstances that lead to the coup. This will include Guatemala, the US and the world scene at the time, when anti-communism contended with communism as state ideologies. I will contend that the coup was all but inevitable in the prevailing political climate of 1954. But that still doesn't make it right. We have been finding out for nearly half a century how wrong it was. Opinions have always varied with the positions of their adherents, but I believe there is one thing that can no longer be disputed: the CIA catalyzed a turn for the worse, even to the inhuman, for many Latin American governments by its actions in managing the Guatemalan coup. They provided the essential weapon for the modern national security state, the knowledge of how to organize an efficient apparatus of state repression and terror.

In 1975, The Khmer Rouge became the ruling political party of Cambodia after overthrowing the Lon Nol government. Following their leader Pol Pot, the Khmer Rouge imposed an extreme form of social engineering on Cambodian society. They wanted to form an anti-modern, anti-Western ideal of a restructured “classless agrarian society'', a radical form of agrarian communism where the whole population had to work in collective farms or forced labor projects. The Khmer Rouge revolutionary army enforced this mostly with extreme violence. The book “First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers”, written by Luong Ung, is the author’s story of growing up during this time period. She was five years old when the Khmer Rouge came into power. As stated in the author’s note, “From 1975 to 1979, through execution, starvation, disease, and forced labor, the Khmer Rouge systematically killed an estimated two million Cambodians, almost a fourth of the country’s population.”
Allende’s policies are to blame, Chilean politics were polarized, and more importantly—Chilean military, not those from the Unites States overthrew Allende. At the same time, it is preposterous to claim that the U.S. was not involved in this coup. This coup should not be considered only in terms of U.S. involvement, there were domestic issues in play as well.

The Cambodian Genocide has the historical context of the Vietnam War and the country’s own civil war. During the Vietnam War, leading up to the conflicts that would contribute to the genocide, Cambodia was used as a U.S. battleground for the Vietnam War. Cambodia would become a battle ground for American troops fighting in Vietnam for four years; the war would kill up to 750,00 Cambodians through U.S. efforts to destroy suspected North Vietnamese supply lines. This devastation would take its toll on the Cambodian peoples’ morale and would later help to contribute that conflicts that caused the Cambodian genocide. In the 1970’s the Khmer rouge guerilla movement would form. The leader of the Khmer rouge, Pol Pot was educated in France and believed in Maoist Communism. These communist ideas would become important foundations for the ideas of the genocide, and which groups would be persecuted. The genocide it’s self, would be based on Pol Pot’s ideas to bring Cambodia back to an agrarian society, starting at the year zero. His main goal was to achieve this, romanticized idea of old Cambodia, based on the ancient Cambodian ruins, with all citizens having agrarian farming lives, and being equal to each other. Due to him wanting society to be equal, and agrarian based, the victims would be those that were educated, intellectuals, professionals, and minority ethnic g...
In his book The Trial of Henry Kissinger, Christopher Hitchens examines the trials and tribulations of Henry Kissinger, a onetime diplomat, Nation Security Advisor, and United States Secretary of State during the administrations of Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. The author takes a partisan view of Kissinger’s crimes and put forward his assertions that the former diplomat was responsible for war crimes in Chile, Vietnam, East Timor, and Cambodia. Christopher Hitchens mounts a stinging indictment of a man whose ambition and ruthlessness have directly resulted in both individual murders and widespread destruction of lives. He manages to capture in details a complicated web of conceit that Kissinger used in order to rise to power and later to consolidate

A key early message of the text reminds the reader that America was not wholly sympathetic to the plight of the Jews. This is of great importance to acknowledge in keeping the historical record straight, rather than whitewashing the role of the American side and depicting them as heroes. Anti-Semitism was common in the US among ordinary people and those in power. This reached even to the point of preferring that Hitler ‘have his way with the Jews’ rather than intervening on their behalf. The US did finally come to the assistance of Europe late in the war, but that was only after all of France had been occupied and after much of London had been reduced to rubble by constant Nazi air raids. It is to Larsson’s credit that he reveals the anti-Semitism in the highest echelons of the US. In fact before the war began Hitler was Time Magazine’s ‘man of the year,’ a historical aberration that should not be
