After reading Henry Ford, "The International Jew: The World's Problem," one may find that Ford's attitude towards Jews is not very different from those attitudes expressed within Chapter VII of The Jew in the Modern World. Ford considers Jews to be greed driven "swarms...and the world's enigma" (513). The comments and arguments of Bauer, Marx, Wagner, Stoecker, Treitschke, and Mommsen all recognize those qualities of the Jews that give them economic and political advantage within the countries they populate; lifestyles, morals, and traditions.
Ford's opinion was written between eighty to forty years after the aforementioned anti-Semitic comments were published. Ford focuses his attention upon the Jewish power gained within the world of business, "he is business...the Jew is supremely gifted for business" (513) His view and those of Stoecker, Bauer, and Mommsen, that blame the Jews, who create national misfortune, practice social abuses with an inherent lack of morals, all build to create Ford's perception, "Jewish solidarity renders it difficult to measure Gentile and Jewish achievements by the same standard" (513). All of these men encompass the belief that Jews are ultimately a threat, and a threat that if not acted upon could lead to problems to a nation socially, politically, economically, and religiously.
Ford's underhanded assault upon Jews is also his unusual attempt at motivating the Gentiles. It is clear that Ford maintains his prejudice, but he does so by highlighting the strengths that he sees within the Jewish people. Ford suggests that Jews are born with some sort of business `gift' and that Jews will not settle for menial positions of work. With his own newspaper, Henry Ford attempted to instill jealousy and to incite anger within his readers. I can only wonder why such a financial giant and visionary was unable to encourage his Gentile followers to emphasize educational values to their children, just as Jewish families do? He chooses the simple road, described in his article. How many of the 97% Gentile population might one need to harness and control the 3% of Jewish population? To the mad and barbaric, future leader of Germany named Hitler, the answer became disturbingly sick, but true.
The author believes that the struggle of Jews vs anti-Semites is really just another form of the “rich vs poor struggle” which is existent through many societies in our modern era. The anti-Semites will take out their aggression against the Jews because Jews are an easy target. It is easier for an anti-Semite to accept that he works a hard job for little pay just to make a factory boss rich. However, the question is raised of what good would that do? The anti-Semite needs the job, so he can't quit, and causing an uproar towards his boss would only make him even more unhappy so instead, he channels his hatred in manageable ways, such as toward Jews.
Who was once a hero, was now the villain in many regards; he was the protagonist at first, and after, became the antagonist after his fortune took over his morality. Henry Ford had well-meaning intentions at first. Truly wanting to connect the world, he wanted to create a car that everyone can afford and be able to enjoy. Although he achieved his goal of creating this car, the model T, several unintentional controversial ideologies were established along with it.
Henry Ford was a captain of industry. He owned Ford Motors, which was an automobile company. Ford was a man who always wanted his own way and he got it most of the time. The creation he is most famous for is the FORD MODEL T, the car for the commoners. His car became an instant hit amongst the people- the local people and the working class of people because it was very affordable and was not just for the rich. Ford was a very successful businessman but not particularly a nice guy. He expected a lot from his workers but thing is that he also cared for his workers, because he knew that not only were they dependent on him but also that he depended upon them, they were the ones due to which he was gaining popularity and success throughout America. Ford’s great strength was the manufacturing process for his cars. Instead of having people put together the entire car he created organized teams that added parts to the Model T as it moved down the assembly line, this lowered the production prices and also the time and energy required to put together the cars.
At that time director-general Peter Stuyvesant wanted to keep the Jews out of his diverse town. Stuyvesant described the Jews as “deceitful, very repugnant” and “hateful enemies and blasphemers of the name of Christ” which led to most of the original group leaving (Stavans, 2005, p. 2). This reaction to Jews has been a common occurrence throughout history, both in the United States and abroad. Stuyvesant, seeing the economic growth the Jews brought with them, eventually allowed them to stay and eventually embraced their intellectual stamina (Stavans, 2005, p. 2).
Henry Ford, founder of Ford motor company, is most well known as an icon of American manufacturing and ingenuity. A lesser known aspect of Ford’s history is his fascist leanings and blatant anti-Semitism. Ford ruled over Dearborn Michigan as a de facto dictator, employing fascist tactics to control his workforce. His anti-Semitic writings influenced Adolf Hitler, who expressed admiration for the famed automobile industrialist. Ford’s company was instrumental in supplying the German military with vehicles during World War II even as they refused to assist the allies. Ford’s racist and corporatist views made him an idol of the National Socialists.
Throughout history Jewish people have been discriminated against relentlessly and while one may think that the world has finally become an accepting place to live in, unfortunately the battle against discrimination still exists even in countries such as the USA. Different opposing groups such as the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) and the Knights Party have not only discriminated against people of non-white races, but they have helped promote anti-Semitism in the United States. Anti-Semitism is the hatred of or discrimination of against Jews, which according to Efron et al. “anti-Semitism was born of modern racial theories and political ideas, or for that matter with Christian anti-Semitism, fueled by distinctive theological ideas unique to Christianity” (Efron et al. Pg. 68).
One of the first writers to express the racial anti-Semitic view was Wilhelm Marr, who it is believed invented the word “anti-Semitism”. He, like other Germans had grievance with the Jews on the basis that a universally successful Jew had pushed them out of getting a good job. Marr himself was fired from his job as a journalist at a paper owned by Jews. He wrote “Der Sieg des Judentums uber das Germanentum”. In other words Jew was not contrasted with Christian, religiously but with German, racially. Henry Ford was born on July 30 in 1863 in Greenfield Township, Michigan he was one of the first American industrialists and wanted to make a difference in the automobile industry. Back then, before 1908 automobiles were expensive that only rich people could afford. Henry Ford wanted to change this and wanted everyone to have a vehicle to drive. He was able to accomplish this by the assembly line, in which it created more cars in less time. The first car Henry Ford made was the Model T created on the assembly line. Ford’s innovation in manufacturing created less expensive cars and higher wage jobs.
When Hitler was questioned as to why he was partaking in a crusade to destroy the Jews, he declared that he was ‘only continuing what Christianity had preached and practiced for 2000 years’. This clearly indicates that although the feelings of contempt for the Jews changed from a theological concern to a racial matter, the Nazis were influenced by early Christian anti-Judaism and were able to manipulate negative Christian attitudes and portrayals of Jews to justify their plan to annihilate the Jews of Europe.
With many of the authors who write on the Jews of fin-de-siecle Vienna depicting a golden age and of a homogenous Jewish culture with a shared common identity. Yet Ernst Gombrich recently controversially asserted, whilst giving a lecture on the topic of, "Fin de siecle Vienna and its Jewish Cultural influences", "I am of the opinion that the notion of Jewish Culture was, and is, an invention of Hitler and his forerunners and after-runners. Henry Ford was one of the most brilliant entrepreneurs in creating the automobile assembly line, it was his controversial characteristics and unorthodox approach towards administrating the Ford Motor Company which resulted in the conglomeration of one of the most successful corporations in the world. At the turn of the century everything was booming! The growth of the economy and stock market increased the job opportunities as well as morals. As a result of this industrial revolution, out of the woodwork came a humble yet driven man, Henry Ford. Between the five dollar/day plan, his policies on administrating the company, and his relations with his customers, Ford was often presented as a suspicious character. This controversial behavior epitomized the success of the company, it did not lead to his own downfall as many suspect. The Anti-Semitic accusations, and the belief that Ford was taking advantage of his customers, were by far overshadowed by his brillianc!e and strong hand in running his company.

It appears that throughout history, the figures that stand out the most are either worshipped or despised, and there is very rarely an in-between. Through the implementation of the Five-Dollar Day, Ford was able to drastically change how the Ford Motor Company company operated, and how business would operate for years to come.

However, the term ‘Anti-Semitism’ itself only came into use in the nineteenth century, and along with it came an ideology which fuelled this deep psychological hatred to develop into a political movement which culminated in Nazism. Throughout history, the reasons for Anti-Semitism have differed and in Imperial Germany, it was a combination of religious, racial and political factors which led to such hostility toward Jews.
