Even the unimportant things make a significant difference! Helping others is my passion and realizing you can use compassion to support other’s dreams is the reason I feel so strongly about this belief. I have had many opportunities to assist others. I remember many times when just the littlest things make a difference. In many situations, I always try to understand all points of views to a disagreement before anything escalates; kind gestures are important. This helps me feel important and more connected in creating solutions. I make assumptions about others every day of my life realizing that I cannot judge another based on atypical notions alone. This is a constant reminder to remain open-minded.

Over the summer I was able to spend several weeks at Union City Elementary School as a volunteer counselor. Through volunteer counseling, I provided elementary campers as well as special needs students with a fun filled week at camp. I like helping others, because I feel that volunteer work builds a stronger community. Coming from a strong small community, I have learned that having pride in your community is something that is well worth it in life. Throughout my summers volunteer service, I have learned how to be humble, but also how to have confidence. Volunteering has taught me a sense of independence, which is an important character trait for any college student to have. Patience, being able to understand someone different than you and time management are also skills that I have acquired through my volunteer work. They are willing to cross continents because others need their help. These are the people who do not think of what they will get in return. They do not think of sacrifices that they are making such is their dedication to the cause of helping others. They help others in need, irrespective of religion, race or politics. Helping other people includes putting others before yourself, and for good reasons. There are people who help others all the time and sometimes they do not receive much gratitude for their efforts.
