"I wear my helmet all the time except for the short distance I just went on," explained Scott, Karl's son. Scott died exactly one month later, after an SUV turned into his motorcycles path. Headgear offers a form of padding when worn. It allows juniors and elite athlete’s the reduced chance of head wounds. By this it means it allows for less “cracked skulls”, scars, wounds and so on. How well do helmets prevent concussions from occurring and prevent the development of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE)?
("N.F.L. Players’ Union Weighs the Benefits and the Pitfalls of Helmet Sensors. This technology helps prevent a player with a concussion that he doesn’t know about from continuing to play during that game and cause more damage to his head that can last forever. Another good advancement is helmets that have a design that uses energy-managing materials and a facemask attachment system that disperses energy from frontal impacts. This helps prevent the head from taking the main part of the blow and disperses the energy to lessen the likelihood of becoming seriously injured from a hit. These types of helmets have a certain shelf life meaning you can only use them for so many years before they have to be replaced, this is beneficial so that the equipment stays up to the new standards of safety for the players as well as prevents them from becoming stressed over the years and breaking.

While the use of helmets does aid in protecting players from brain trauma, they also increase the risky behavior of players; this is called risk compensation. Risk compensation is the adjustment of individual behavior, responding to the perceived changes in risk (TheFreeDictionary.com). Most people that wear helmets have a pre-conceived idea that, because they have a helmet on, they can possess more daring behaviors and be fine. The helmet is basically thought of as a tool to hit harder, or improve performance in today’s culture. Adventure writer and pilot, Lane Wallace (2011) accurately understands the dangers of helmets being used incorrectly, and how they are used as weapons instead of safety. Wallace also theorizes like the NFL, a change in football culture and of viewpoints towards helmets would vastly reduce trauma to the

“A football helmet gives you an awful lot of protection….but you don't have to be a doctor or an engineer or even a football player to realize that the football helmet does not block all the measured force produced when some 300-pound player, with hands the size of a Christmas ham, whacks you in the head dozens of time in a game and season after season.” (Quoted cyril wecht), Football helmets need to be designed so that no one will suffer needless head injuries.
Although some coaches and helmet manufacturers might disagree, helmets should improve because it will benefit player’s health by decreasing the number of concussions as well as other injuries, and reducing the risk of social effects after the strong impact to the head.
Considering that when a person gets a concussion they are more apt to get another one, wearing a helmet that is appropriate for the sport they are participating in is vital. The new technology today could help sports and people playing them. Custom made helmets may come out in the future and each helmet would only fit that person’s head (“Helmets” 3). These helmets may just be the reason people get or don’t get concussions.
Imagine a ten year old innocent girl, her parents whom she dearly loved slaughtered in front of her, her siblings being sold into prostitution, slavery or to guerrilla forces as child soldiers. Rape, theft, murder, genocides and other injustice doing is her daily “playground”. Now stop imaging, the common American seems to be oblivious to current events going on worldwide, because such girls exist in war torn places such as Iraq, Syria and Democratic Republic of Congo. If Conscription, the practice of ordering people by law to serve the armed forces were enforced then we might not have to let ten year old girls endure such hardship. Conscription is being used in countries like Switzerland, Austria and Finland, their citizens will never have
