Throughout the years, new products are invented and old ones are improved. Although many ideas are discussed and even considered for production, few make it through all the steps. Therefore, struggling through the product life cycle allows for the market to accept or decline products (Salomon, Marshall, & Stuart, 2012). In addition, changes to marketing strategies are continuous, and companies strive to satisfy wants and desires from customers.

Beginning in 1876, Heinz Tomato Ketchup was introduced by Henry Heinz, and it quickly became a household name. Ketchup became a sought after product because it could be preserved for around a year (Wiggins, 2014). However, further research of the ingredients proved to be a concern because consuming a large amount of preservatives was deemed to be harmful. Therefore, a leader in fighting against the use of preservatives, Dr. Harvey Washington Wiley partnered with Henry Heinz, and a recipe was created that no longer required the use of preservatives. In addition, the year 1906 became memorable because Heinz Ketchup was produced preservative-free. Recyclable bottles were developed and used in the 1990’s (H.J. Heinz Company, 2016). With another bottling renovation, Heinz introduced the upside down bottle in 2002. Through the growth and maturity stages, Heinz Ketchup has had one flavor, but realizing special needs and desires of customers, varieties began to arise including no salt added, reduced sugar, and organic. Having portrayed the same look over the years, the Heinz Tomato Ketchup label changed to reflect the slogan “Grown Not Made®”. Therefore, the pickle was replaced with a vine ripened tomato with the slogan written underneath.
Although Heinz Ketchup has been a household name for many years, the company continues to change labeling and provides additional information to the customer. Therefore, the year 2010 brought about another addition to remind customers that Heinz Ketchup is made from basic ingredients, and labels were printed with the saying “Simply Heinz” (H.J. Heinz Company, 2016). Today’s society is full of products that have numerous varieties. But, little do customers know about the time before when there was one type of each product. In Malcolm Gladwell’s “Ketchup Conundrum” article, he offers many different situations providing an explanation on how some products came to be, and how some name brands made their way into the business world. Consumers are lucky today that there is almost any variety of product to fit their wants or needs.
We have carried out a study on the F.M.C.G Company Heinz. Heinz is the most global U.S based food company, with a world-class portfolio of powerful brands holding number 1 and number 2 market positions in more than 50 worldwide markets. There are many other famous brand names in the company¡¦s portfolio besides Heinz itself, StarKist, Ore-Ida, Plasmon, and Watties. In fact, Heinz owns more than 200 brands around the world and makes over 5,700 varieties.
In the book Fast Food Nation, Eric Schlosser writes about the fast food industry. Schlosser tells the story of J.R. Simplot, the man behind McDonald’s source for potatoes. He started his own business right out of the eighth grade, after dropping out. He started out small but eventually became one of the riches men in America. He owned then 160 acres of land to start off this business. He sold his potatoes to companies at first all natural. But he soon discovered that if you dry out the food it will keep for longer, more companies then bought from him. Then in the 1950's he found out about freezing them, and the method of frozen food. McDonald’s started buying and selling Simplot fries. The customers seemed to like it, they didn't mind the change or even realize it. As a result though from freezing the potatoes, they lost a lot of the natural flavors. Companies began cooking their food in a high percentage of animal fat to capture that flavor, but soon they switched. They traded beef fat for more chemicals. The fries flavor all depends on the chemicals, it is all fake, and there is even more saturated fat from their fries than in their burgers.
Credibility: The reason I picked this topic is because when I was in high school I had a teacher that was very serious about organic food ,and one day I came to school with mc Donald and she wanted to inform what I was eating. She ending up playing a movie called food inc and from that they I been addicted on learning about corn fructose syrup

Ordinarily, the one meal I am willing to kill over is spaghetti. The one person who comes to mind when I think about spaghetti is my grandmother. Her sauce is as thick as her history and the many layers to the dish represent the transitions she has had all throughout her life. Spaghetti is my go-to meal for heartaches, stress, and happiness. I can't just eat anyone's spaghetti or any type of spaghetti. First, it has to be my Mammaw's (grandmother) spaghetti because she adds the perfect amount of sugar and love into her infamous sauce.
