Heather Millard was born in Bradenton, Florida. She was raised by her mother in Port Charlotte. After the parents divorced when Mrs. Millard was two years old the mother decide to move to Port Charlotte with a friend. The family also resided in Okeechobee, FL for a short period of time. The client’s mother had three marriages. The client stated that she has a good relationship with her current stepfather. Besides her mother and stepfather she also lives with 2 whole sisters, one half brother and two step siblings. She is single and has never been married. The client reported that her mother graduated with a Master Degree and is currently working at Liberty Elementary School as ESE liaison. Mrs. Millard added that her mother is enroll at school

The sacristy of a marriage and the bond of a family is metaphorically protected by the beamed structure of a home. It isn’t until you read “Stepdaughters” by Max Apple that you catch a glimpse of the interior complications and obstacles, divorced families often face. The author seamlessly paints the very common mother and teenage daughter tension many families endure. Yet, the story is uniquely told by “stepfather number three trying to stay on the sideline” (132). The author focuses on a few issues that a family (divorced or not) may face: overbearing control, lack of trust, and unwanted change. He does this, by use of temporal setting – the dreaded teenage years – and situation – the exhausted disagreement between the mother and daughter.
