“Didn’t you know, I was waiting on you” is a quote from the song “Bad News” (Bhasker, West, Simone, and Bass, 2008, p. 1). The theme of this particular song is about heartbreak in relationships, and many times the woman is the one breaking a man’s heart. Three songs sung by Kanye West tell the tale of heartbreak caused by a woman and how the man has emotional pain, deals with heartbreak, and loses the woman to someone else.
One theme of heartbreak written by Jones et al. (2008) in the song “Heartless” sung by Kanye West is emotional pain. West sings about how a woman could be so heartless. In one example, he compares the woman to being as “cold as the winter wind when it breeze” (p. 1). He states that even though they have been through a lot,

she still isn’t talking to him. Jones, et al. (2008) comes to the conclusion that “in the end {they're both} still so lonely” (p. 1). In another song “Welcome to Heartbreak” written by West, Reynolds, Bhasker, Mescudi, and Mcildowie (2008) state that his “God-sister is getting married by the lake” [but due to his recent heartbreak he] “couldn’t figure out” who he wants to take (p. 1). Also, it was bad enough he had to leave early, but West et al. (2008) had to “leave before they even cut the cake” (p. 1). The second theme of heartbreak is dealing with heartbreak.
In the song “Welcome to Heartbreak,” written by West et al. (2008) says, “he chased the good life [his] whole life” but now that he looks back on his life, his life is gone. Thus, West, et al. (2008) ask where did [he] go wrong” (p. 1). Meaning he is trying to figure out what to do with his life without her in it. also, in “Heartless” written by Jones et al. (2008) West asks, why they’re still up at “3 am on the phone?” even though he knows how this is going to go (p.1). In addition, he emphases that she will “run and tell [her] friends that she’s leaving” him (p. 1). In conclusion, West, et al. (2008) makes it clear that she “will never find nobody better than” him (p.1). Concluding the end of a once fruitful …show more content…
relationship. The final theme of heartbreak is when the person is happy with someone else.
In “Heartless” written by Jones et al. (2008) West states that she walks around like she doesn’t know him. Also, West sings “you got a new friend”, but he still has his friends around. Meaning she moved on and is with another man, but West still has old friends to rely on. In “Bad News” written by Bhasker et al. (2008) West sings that his “face turned to stone when [he] heard the news”. At the same time, West was “waiting on a dream” that they would get back together (p. 1). Finally, after seeing his old girlfriend with a new man, he lost hope and realizes it would never happen. In addition, he says that he “knows that’ll never come true” (p.1). However, West, et al. (2008) “played it off and acted like he already knew” asking how long she had known the guy before deciding to come out with the relationship. In conclusion, she plays it off by “acting like he’s brand new” (P. 1). West does not show any emotion or pain from seeing her with
him. In conclusion, these three songs stick to the theme of heartbreak. In addition, the songs prove to be useful in writing a paper as many people can relate to heartbreak and can listen to them to heal.
Synthesis essay: “Before he cheats” & “Perfect” Although the danger and adrenaline an unfaithful acquaintance may feel to being unfaithful to their loved one; it can cause the other person in the relationship to feel damage physically and mentally; leaving a mess of words of feeling unworthy. Both the songs: “before he cheats” and “perfect” show a women’s perspective of what it felt like to being cheated on, However “Before He Cheats” uses her betrayal of trust to good use in contrast to “perfect’s” strategy of staying in a toxic relationship. In “before he cheats” the woman who got cheated on took her deep hatred and betrayal she had towards the situation and turned it to revenge; a dish best served cold. However in “perfect” the women was
Kanye met Kim in 2004 while Kim was married to another man. They both dated other people until they got together in 2012. Kanye waited over 8 years to date Kim. He wrote a line in one of his famous songs “Cold” saying “And I’ll admit, I had fallen in love with Kim / Around the same time she had fallen in love with him.” ("Kanye West (Ft. DJ Khaled) – Cold")
In Drea Knufken’s essay entitled “Help, We’re Drowning!: Please Pay Attention to Our Disaster,” the horrific Colorado flood is experienced and the reactions of worldly citizens are examined (510-512). The author’s tone for this formal essay seems to be quite reflective, shifting to a tone of frustration and even disappointment. Knufken has a reflective tone especially during the first few paragraphs of the essay. According to Drea Knufken, a freelance writer, ghostwriter and editor, “when many of my out-of-town friends, family and colleagues reacted to the flood with a torrent of indifference, I realized something. As a society, we’ve acquired an immunity to crisis. We scan through headlines without understanding how stories impact people,
She questions, “What I am to you now that you are no / longer what you used to be to me? / Who are we to each other now …” (Sutphen 1-3). She remembers the good times, but she is uncertain about what he is feeling. She wants to know, and she needs to know. According to Shawn Lewis, “Divorce people often fantasy hiring a hit-man one moment, and discussing a reconciliation in the next moment. They sometimes become recluses, and frequently spend sleepless nights contemplating whether life will be worth living the next morning.” In other words, the doubts are consuming her. There are unanswered questions, which leaves the woman confused about her feelings. Likewise, the reader can relate to the woman because she is having anxiety waiting for answers. On the other hand, the reader are left wondering how her partner felt towards
In “Useless Boys” the writer, Barry Dempster, creates a strong feeling of disappointment and shame in himself and society as he looks back on his youth to when him and a friend made a promise to each other to “not be like their fathers”. Dempster expresses a sort of disgust for the capitalist society his world seems to be built around, a life where even if you’re doing something you initially enjoyed you end up feeling trapped in it. The poem is a reflective piece, where he thinks back on how he truly believed he would end up happy if he chose a different path than that of his parents. The author uses simple diction and syntax, but it’s evident that each idea has a much deeper meaning, which assisted in setting a reflective/introspective mood.
Songs and poems have a lot of great and powerful words, but sometimes nobody realizes the true meaning of the words. The song, “Wanted,” written by Hunter Hayes and his co-writer, Troy Verges, performed by Hunter Hayes, is about making the one you love feel loved and wanted. This country pop song produced by Dann Huff and Hunter Hayes was released on March 5, 2012. Hunter told Taste of Country about writing the song: "At the time, I was trying to tell somebody something, but I couldn't figure out how to say it. So I wanted to say it in music because I knew it would be a little more impactful. I wanted to say we are great in this relationship together, and I feel like it could even get better." The three literary devices used in this poem to get the theme across are hyperbole, simile, and indirect characterization.
Her husband and her were apart a lot, so that even if they had been in a good relationship the time apart would have still caused problems “I believe in out of sight out of mind, rather than, absence makes the heart grow fonder.
The title of the song shines surprisingly clear, though it creates a feeling of being unpleasant and obnoxious for the listeners. The man in this song either feels rejected or disappointed at the world as it seems to be so cruel and also beautiful. Obviously, the world itself always has an equal balance of good and bad and you can never have both. Even though the man got his girl but he feels they are falling apart.
“Love Poem With Toast” by Miller Williams introduces the effect our desires have in our daily lives in order to “move, as we call it, forward” (11). Miller Williams also conveys this message accompanied with a darker meaning; though these desires make up a large part of our lives, in the end none of it will matter because we leave the world the same way we enter it, with nothing. Despite this message being carried out, it is still a love poem at the surface, but it is not about a person confessing their love, rather pretending to love, and continuing to live with this self-conflict about choosing to be in a frigid relationship over not being in one at all. It is interesting how Miller rhythmically categorizes his message throughout the poem;
For many of us, one of the most accurate and effective ways to express the feelings that really matter to us is through music. We don’t only grow to attached to songs that are catchy, but also those with lyrics that we can relate to. It is not uncommon to feel like sometimes, artists can convey the way we feel better than we could ourselves. The storybook-like lines you read at the start of this page are a collection of lyrics
In the song Drake talks about how your world can come crashing during a break up when he says, “When a good thing goes bad it’s not the end of the world/ It’s just the end of a world that you had with one girl” (Rapgenius, Doing It Wrong) Continuing the theme of heartbreak in his song “Missin You” he continues to express his heartache when he said, “Ya, and when she not by my side/ And I hear that she gone/ Now its like a shock to my pride/ I don’t care if she know/ Cuz that’s basically just a male ego” (Rapgenius, Missin You (Remix)) That stanza struck me the most because Drake is telling the listener that he doesn’t care if people knows how he feels about his ex girlfriend. He references the male ego and how it doesn’t allow a man to feel hurt if a girl leaves
A New Literacy Age in American Society Super Sad True Love Story by Gary Shteyngart depicts a futuristic American society dominated by media. Technology is their most precious process, everything revolves around their äppärät. Everyone is ranked based on their attractiveness and wealth. Most people want to stay young and live longer. Any written artifacts are almost non-existent, and literacy is not the same as before.
Before he met his ex fiancée, Yunior was a player. He didn’t care about girl’s feelings; he knew he was going to get another girl if they left him. Yunior said, “I told her the truth; its because I love you mami. I know this sounds like a load of doo-doo, but it’s the true; Magda’s my heart” (Diaz 6). Yunior thought he loved her but he really didn’t. When you love someone you feel like they complete you and you don’t want to hurt them. Yunior cheated on her with a girl named Cassandra. He knew the pain he caused her but he still managed to cheat on his next relationship. He thought it was ok to cheat but once his fiancée broke up with him he became into a disaster. He realized the real meaning of love. Love could complete you with happiness or it could destroy you. In this case love destroyed him. He became into a person who he would of never thought. He was depressed; He didn’t care about anything but her. He just wanted to get her back but he knew he messed up, he knew how cheating wasn’t going to get him anywhere. The pain he felt was worse than what he made his ex girlfriends
To what extent does the presence of nature impact the poems in “twenty love poems and a song of despair”
She, then, looked at all the reasons the relationship failed and realized that she deserved it to herself to become a better person from the mistakes she had made. She also realized that the guy was imperfect as well, and it isn’t worth her time to obsess over a person who gave up on her and did not treat her as well as she deserved. It was 2 weeks after the break up when Cerene got up from her bed, wiped her tears off, deleted all the pictures relating to him on her phone, and started her journey to be a better person. She decided to lose weight(from 130 lbs to 112lbs), work on her trust issues, and simply be the best her she could be; there was nothing holding this girl back. Currently, the ex is in her AP Calculus class and she can walk in with confidence knowing that she respects him but she is so much better without
