There are several harmful diseases found in this world, some in which can be cured, some that have treatments and others that have been killing people for years now. Cancer, for example, is the name for a category of various diseases in which the characteristics and functions are changed in the body cells. Cancer is defined as the unwanted growth of cells who invade normal tissues and organs and eventually spread throughout the body. Although there are many kinds of cancer, all cancers harm the body when damaged cells divide uncontrollably to form lumps or abnormal growth of tissue called tumors. Tumors can grow and impede with various systems in the human body such as the nervous, circulatory, and digestive systems and can also release hormones that alter body function. Most foods contain various kinds of fat, some being healthier than others. Some fats found in foods from plants and animals are known as dietary fats in which contain different types of fatty acids, such as saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated. Saturated fats (butter, coconut oil, dairy products, meat) are found in animal products and processed foods. They are usually solids making them not heart healthy, since they are mostly know for raising one’s LDL cholesterol (low density lipoprotein). Polyunsaturated fats (corn oils, sunflower oil, soybean oil) are mostly found in plant sources and they tend to lower blood cholesterol levels. Monounsaturated fats (olive oil, peanut oil, canola oil, sesame oil) however, are found in both plant and animal products. These fats can help reduce the “bad” cholesterol, lowering LDL cholesterol. Thus, polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats have the most positive effect in one’s health, while saturated fats have the most negative effect. Heart disease is one of the nation’s leading causes of death in both woman and men. About 600,000 people die of heart disease in the United States (Americas heart disease burden, 2013). Some facts about heart disease are every year about 935,000 Americans have a heart attack. Of these, 610,000 are a first heart attack victim. 325,000 happen in people who have already had a heart attack. Also coronary heart disease alone costs the United States $108.9 billion each year. This total includes the cost of health care services, medications, and loss of productivity. Deaths of heart disease in the United States back in 2008 killed about 24.5% of African Americans.

Heart disease is also known as cardiovascular disease. Since there are many conditions related with heart disease. If we break down the word we can see “Cardio” which means of the heart, “myo” which means muscle, and “pathy” which means disease, therefore cardiomyopathies are diseases of the heart muscle. (Slide 3) There are 3 main types of cardiomyopathies; hypertrophic, dilated, and restrictive. I will only be discussing dilated cardiomyopathy, which is characterized by the enlargement of the hearts chambers with impaired systolic function. It is estimated that as many as 1 of 500 adults may have this condition. Dilated cardiomyopathy is more common in blacks than in whites and in males than in females. It is the most common form of cardiomyopathy in children and it can occur at any age (CDC).
The saturated fats are difficult to break during metabolism and thus these fats are carried in the blood stream in the form of LDL causing an increase in the cholesterol levels. This causes several problems including heart attacks. Organic sunflower oil contains mono-unsaturated as well as poly-unsaturated fats that provide energy and also help to maintain cholesterol levels in the blood stream. Organic sunflower oil also contains lecithin which is known to lower cholesterol levels. Lecithin sticks to nerve and cell linings and so prevents cholesterol from sticking to these linings and helps to lower cholesterol

Coronary artery disease may show no signs of symptoms, or chest pain before you know heart attack. The blood vessels are narrowed or blocked due to the deposition of cholesterol on their walls. This reduces the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the heart muscles, which is essential for proper functioning of the heart.
