There are myths about vegetarian diets that it is a healthy, moral alternative to meat and that it is far better for the world than meat incorporated diets. But the facts that state these claims are outdated, bias and poorly supported. Alternative meat products ravage US crops and don’t even provide proper, full nutrition to support a brain that has developed through years of meat sustained diets. Vegetarianism is a crop-destroying, world devastating, unhealthy and unneeded alternative to a weight maintaining lifestyle of meat eating.
Top soil in 90% of US cropland is at a loss by 13 times the sustainable rate, this drop is due to the high demand for vegetables like soybeans, a vegetarian meat alternative, that take up 92% of the crops in the US. This plant has been chemically modified to be immune to herbicides. Scientists say this will result in weeds that are un-proportionately large and highly durable. Researchers referred to these plants as super-weeds. This chemical, distributed to soy beans, is also toxic and dangerous to fish and other plant life, making the top soil unusable for other vegetables. Processed vegetarian protein options like soybeans can cause greenhouse gas pollution along with the top soil loss.
The myth that a vegetarian diet will solve world hunger is untrue due to the fact of top soil loss. Hunting has been around since the beginning of time and has been in many people 's lives for generations, these are some reasons why people all across America continue to hunt. Hunting has many benefits such as reducing deer related car accidents, controlling deer densities in heavily human populated areas, creates jobs, and feeding and supporting families. Whether it’s to help reduce your risk of diseases, or purely to attain better health, leaving farmed animals entirely out of your diet is an effortless decision with life-long benefits. Plant-based diets will strengthen your immune system, beautify your skin, increase your energy, and reduce risk of various diseases (Silverstone 1). Being vegetarian is a step in the right direction by protecting your health, animals, and the environment.

One way that people have tried to pursue a healthier lifestyle, is by removing meat and other animal products from their diets, whether they become a strict vegetarian who eats no animal byproducts, or a lacto-ovo vegetarian who still eats eggs and dairy. There is much to be said about how exactly meat is being produced. In the present day, there are hardly any farms out there that still practice the traditional and environmental - friendly way. Animal agriculture is widely used all over the world and greatly contributes to climate change. Meat production leads to global warming because of the combination of carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. The process of raising animal is the major source to these harmful gases. It is vital to save the world from the worst impacts of climate change by reducing meat consumption. However stopping this meat eating system is extremely difficult, given that we had been consuming meat ever since our ancestors domesticated animals for that purpose. Over the decade Animal agriculture has been getting worse and worse. In 1973 when the Secretary of Agriculture Earl Butz announced ‘’ what we want out of agriculture is plenty of food’’, overproduction was encouraged and lowering the price of meat was carried out; this originally started when there was a massive increase in corn (Wolfson). In order to keep up this mass production of meat, multiple pounds of grains are fed to livestock. Livestock industries depended on corn and soy based food and used over half of the artificial fertilizer used in the United States (McWilliams).
The issue of meat consumption has been a controversial topic on whether to allow the practice or discontinue it, non-meat eaters argue it’s unethical because it is abusive to animals. On the other hand, meat consumers argue that eating meat is ethical as long as meat eaters are conscious of how their meat is collected and the treatment of livestock is fair. Human beings can survive simply on the sustenance and nutrients provided by a vegetarian diet. This fact is not up for contention as cultures throughout time and amongst various geographic locations have utilized fruits and vegetables as their main source of nutrition. Even with this truth in mind, meat remains a staple within the diets of many households across the world. Fish, chickens, cows, pigs, boar, alligators, ducks, and many other animals are often times marginalized as resources only meant to satisfy the hungers within society. Both a plant based diet and a meat based diet can provide an individual with an adequate source of protein, vitamins, and essential oils needed for survival, but yet humans choose to subjugate animals to various degrees of cruelty in order to offer themselves the luxury of a meat based diet.
As we can now observe, vegetarianism has become something fashionable, and the number of people who reject eating meat is constantly increasing. In Britain, for instance, over 5 million people have done it so far. It is obviously connected with the recent animal diseases, but this tendency is likely to spread on the other regions of the world. However, it is not only a fashion or fear of illnesses. I myself became a vegetarian about 2 years ago, and I can see a number of reasons why people should stop eating meat. They are mainly of ethic, economic and health type. Those who think in an ecological way should also be aware of how this meat consumption ruins our environment. I don’t have an intention to force anybody to become a vegetarian, but I hope that my argumentation would be strong enough to make some people think about it, at least. In this essay I will try to present this point of view, expressing my personal feelings and showing scientific facts about the problem.
