Healthcare for the Homeless (HCH) started in 1985 and was one of the first 19 Federal Funded projects. In the early 80’s, they recognized that homelessness was an issue. In 1987, it was operated out of bonds in Liberty Heights. In 1989, they moved to Park Ave and stayed there for 20 years. In 2010, they moved to Fallsway and still are there till this day and are expanding their building. HCH provides tons of services for the homeless population such as physical health care services, behavioral health care services, and supportive services such as finding housing, keeping housing, finding jobs and much more. HCH mission is “Health Care for the Homeless works to prevent and end homelessness for vulnerable individuals and families by providing quality, integrated health care and promoting access to affordable housing and sustainable incomes through direct service, advocacy, and community engagement” (Strategic Plan, 2016). This is HCH new mission statement for the 2012-2017 strategic plan. They changed their mission statement because it did not fit with all of the services they wanted to provide to the community. HCH old mission statement did not go into detail about what they were trying to do, but the new statement provide more in-depth facts and provide their goals and reasoning for the homeless population. HCH uses the SWOT analysis and gives their top five strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. HCH strategic plan was developed by staff, clients, and community members, which shows how the community input is important to the organization and making a difference in their clients lives. I would improve minor things to the HCH strategic plan. The vision statement should not be a part of the mission statement. The mission statement and vision statement are two different things and should be expressed differently. Within the mission statement, HCH includes the vision statement, some goals, and services that will provide in order to improve the organization. Goals should not be included in the mission statement and then repeated again in the long-term goals section because it was stated once and should not be stated again. HCH having a strategic plan for 5 years is not a good idea because anything can happen and obstacles can occur. Health care for the homeless goes into detail about what their purpose is and what they are trying to achieve to make the organization a better place, which is extremely good because it shows how they want people to follow alongg with their plan and see how they want potential years to go. Having a 2-3 year strategic plan is better than a 5 year strategic plan because you can expect obstacles but also be able to make adjustments. Five years is to long of a
