Many hospitals have apps for patients to review their medical records online, leave questions for the doctor to answer, check in for doctors’ visits online instead of coming in to the office 15 minutes early to check in. Facilities also allow patients to request medication refills online. In the future technology will allow for remote tracking of patients health. For example, doctors’ and insurance companies will have access to our wearables, such as Fitbit or Apple fit, these monitors will track our daily activities. Doctor’s will be able to track Diabetics sugar levels remotely. And monitor those with chronic illness, they will be able to detect changes in the patients’ health that could prove to be problematic in the near future for that patient. These are just some of the few advancement in technology that healthcare providers can offer the public now and in the future. As our baby boomers are aging there is going to be a greater need for healthcare administrators, to work in nursing home, clinics, hospitals and specialty doctors’
Telehealth is the monitoring via remote exchange of physiological data between a patient at home and health care professionals at hospitals or clinics to assist with diagnosis and treatment. As our society ages and health care costs increase, government and private insurance payers are seeking technological interventions. Technological solutions may provide high quality healthcare services at a distance, utilize professional resources more effectively, and enable elderly and ill patients to remain in their own homes. Patients may experience decreased hospitalization and urgent care settings, and out of home care may not be required as the patient is monitored at home. However, no study has been able to prove telehealth benefits conclusively. This change in health care delivery presents new ethical concerns, and new relationship boundaries between health care professionals, patients, and family members. This paper will discuss telehealth benefits in specific patient populations, costs benefits of using telehealth, and concerns of using telehealth.
With many medical careers students often get confused on what they really want to study, I have faced this problem myself and I know is not that easy due too many choices. There are many options ranging from healthcare to medical jobs. I have thoughtfully chosen to enter the program for Medical Assistant (MA). Ever since I was a child, I’ve spent most of childhood years at the Hospital, I was diagnosed with a rare condition that had to be treated continuously, this meant that I had to be going to checkups every three months so I was close to doctors, surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologist, medical assistants, etc. I remember at first I was frightened just of the thought of going to the doctor but after a few visits I got used to. The doctors and nurses were nice and caring and made me feel comfortable that I end up enjoying my doctor’s visits every time. Since then I decided I wanted to work in the medical field, this is my goal since I can remember. I have always enjoyed helping people in any way I possibly can. I chose to be a Medical Assistant because I think is great way to start my medical career going and programs are practical and not long.
Advances in technology have influences our society at home, work and in our health care. It all started with online banking, atm cards, and availability of children’s grades online, and buying tickets for social outings. There was nothing electronic about going the doctor’s office. Health care cost has been rising and medical errors resulting in loss of life cried for change. As technologies advanced, the process to reduce medical errors and protect important health care information was evolving. In January 2004, President Bush announced in the State of the Union address the plan to launch an electronic health record (EHR) within the next ten years (American Healthtech, 2012).
It is not hard to imagine why this kind of technology will be gradually integrated into the medical field over the next 20 years. Inventors have had the ability to create these apps for a few years now. In 2011, an article was posted describing an app called AirStrip ONE that allowed doctors to monitor patients from remote locations or view the results of electrocardiograms on patients being transported by ambulance before they arrive at the hospital. AirStrip ONE allows “medical teams in the emergency room and cardiac catheterization lab time to prepare, and it can also help paramedics with triage” (Garloch, n.p.). Apps with advancing technology exist in other countries as well, and may soon ...
