This semester, I thought health science would just be more learning about health and how to improve it. Of course health science taught me this, but I think it also taught me more about myself. Most people aren’t consciously aware of changes until they are forced to notice them, and I think I was in this predicament. Health Science helped me realize a lot of changes that occurred throughout myself, and it helped me realize what I can do better. Honestly, I personally feel as though my physical health didn’t get better from the beginning of the semester nor did it get significantly horrible. I have also reduced the amount of junk food that I get from the grocery store by ensuring that the percent of daily value is below 20%. I need to find some healthier snacks that I can eat throughout the day. It is recommended (by my mom) that I should be eating about every 2.5 hour in order to prevent myself from gaining weight from malnutrition. I started eating greens as much as possible because according to my mother, a general practitioner, my bad nutrition may be the reasoning for why I am always tired. During Thanksgiving, I ate collard greens for the first time, and they weren’t bad just not something I can eat on a daily. Due to me being always tired, I started going to sleep right after I sleep which is bad because it doesn’t allow your food to digest. As a result, I assumingly gained some pounds because I can’t fit my jeans anymore, and I also broke a pair of jeans I had on when I bent down to grab something. Also, I don’t drink soda or juice anymore besides orange juice for my vitamin C. I still take my two different sets of vitamins which I think is starting to have an impact on my body because I’m not as tired anymore. I try to drink the necessary amount of water per day, but I often feel dehydrated and my pee is often yellow which is a clear sign of …show more content…
I want to avoid everyone knowing my business in order to avoid necessary drama. Also, I plan to keeping my mouth shut about information that I know and try not to pry in other people’s information because I want to be nosey. I wanted to rekindle some of my old friendships with people that I have funny memories with, but as I continue to ponder it, I realize that not everyone is intended to be in your life. If they really wanted to be in your life, they would have made the effort themselves. It might also start some unnecessary drama by bringing up the past. Therefore, I will leave the past in the past. Some people have made the effort, but I think its best that we go our separate ways. For example, this girl that used to be my best friend didn’t come to my graduation even though she went to my brothers and my sisters, and I even when to her high school and college graduation. She didn 't even tell me that she wasn 't going to come to my graduation because “she couldn 't find a ride”. However, the other day, she texted me basically stating that I was being a stranger, and she has to keep in touch with me through other people. Originally, I was going to give a petty response back, but I realized that the best thing to do was to leave the past in the past, and therefore, I never responded and don 't intend on it. The following essay is a reflective paper on an event that I encountered as a student nurse during my first clinical placement in my first year of study. The event took place in a long term facility. This reflection is about the patient whom I will call Mrs. D. to protect her confidentiality. Throughout this essay I will be using LEARN model of reflection. I have decided to reflect on the event described in this essay since I believe that it highlights the need for nurses to have effective vital signs ‘assessment skills especially when treating older patients with complex medical diagnoses.
Reflecting back on the all the information learned this semester, I am amazed at how much I learned. Working in healthcare makes you aware of a lot of the topics that were covered, however, when you apply it to yourself, in a personal relationship, it becomes much more powerful what the impact of each topic is.
Historically, the nursing profession has been actively involved in the health promotion and disease prevention among the general public. However, while caring for others, nurses often neglect their personal safety, which ultimately results in the high level of work-related injuries. Failure to timely address risk factors for nursing can have dire consequences for patient outcomes, since it is often associated with increased medication errors and patient falls, poor quality of care, and permanent disability of the nursing staff (Stokowski, 2014).
The WHO definition of non-medical determinants of health is: “… the conditions in which people are born, grow, work, live, and age, and the wider set of forces and systems shaping the conditions of daily life. Health psychology has been an appealing subject to me because it is relatable on many levels. Of the topics we have covered in class I think unit 3 have left the deepest impression. Stress is something everyone can relate to but probably understood on the minimum. Stress is a common experience for university students and without an exception I fall victim to it every time an exam or presentation comes up. The importance of a healthy community is not only an issue that affects the individual health of member of the community but is also something affects the health of the overall economic health of the community. Health education helps keep people in check with their personal health, and good personal health correlates with more happiness. Happiness is life correlates with more satisfaction with what an individual 's does on the daily. I have always been intrigued by the field of science and that is the reason I pursued the field of Biochemistry for my undergraduate studies. Wellness is defined as “an active life-long process of becoming aware of and making choices to achieve optimal health and a more successful and balanced existence” (Ren et al., 2007). Wellness incorporates the spiritual, emotional and social wellbeing of an individual. When it came to thinking, planning and developing my SMART goal I decided to focus on my physical health as this was an area that I needed to improve the most and would also contribute positively to my spiritual, emotional, social, intellectual and environmental wellbeing aswell. In this reflective essay I will discuss and reflect on this journey. This reflection will include why I decided to focus on this specific SMART goal aswell as how I found the SMART goal journey. I will then discuss my own view on my attitudes for health and wellness and will discuss what a SMART goal is and the importance of them in order to start working towards those goals and to positively change behaviours and habits. This reflection will also include challenges that may be experienced in relation to behaviour change. These may include time management and motivation.
Health and wellness is defined as taking initiative of making healthier decisions to further benefit one’s life. Wellness is about living a life full of personal responsibility and therefore taking proactive steps for one's entire well-being. To improve our wellness as well as our health, it is our responsibility to eliminate any risk factors. With that, as individuals should take the information being provided to us and use it to make proactive choices to further benefit our health for the future. Personally, the problems I’ve always had with my health is not eating correctly, not enough exercise, and not enough sleep.
There are numerous public health problems that can be addressed in my Southside of Chicago community. Among the several public health problems facing my Southside of Chicago community there are two that are more urgent. Health education or one might say lack thereof is a problem that needs to be addressed. My community is plagued with many of the residents suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes, and the killer virus known as HIV. In most cases these conditions can be prevented with healthier lifestyles and access to nutritious organic foods. In addition, environmental health is another urgent problem my community is facing. Access to clean, safe water and air is supposed to be a fundamental human right aimed at a healthy environment. Yet, my community consists a waste contaminated beach, numerous deteriorated building that are still occupied, and a countless number of restaurant and stores supplying our residents with services that are endangering their health.
Personal health is extremely important to everyone around the world. But it is especially important to citizens of the United States of America. Being one of the leading countries in Health technology and also in food and beverage leaves most people choosing between living a healthy lifestyle and indulging in the varieties of food we offer. Across the country, many people are living with pre-existing conditions, living in food deserts, living below the poverty line and a long list of other factors that either hinders them from eating healthy or force them to eat healthily. When trying to live a healthy lifestyle in this country not only does the promotion of prevention matter, but also the promotion of Career and job opportunities matter just as much. In the United States, Money equals Power and money also equal the opportunity to create and live a healthier lifestyle.
I learned that it is possible to discuss social issues looking into History of Science and vice-versa, and it matters to me because it means that scientists may not be giving enough attention to the History of Science – I was in my 5th semester of College in Brazil and this is the first time I am really looking into History of Science. More like a continuation of my two last papers than only one paper, I made a review with what I learned previously and this last section. If someone would ask me why, I would say that is because I learned that sometimes we can solve the problems of tomorrow looking right back to the past.
