I have been looking for long to pursue something in the field of healthcare, and I think this program will open new doors of learning and success for me. Masters in Health Informatics program blends healthcare and technology very well, so this gives an added advantage to it. I have done a lot of volunteer work back in India which involved going and serving people in the remote areas. I have seen people suffering and not getting proper health treatment due to lack of availability. There were many instances where the hospitals or the doctor’s offices were not able to take the advantage of the technology. Healthcare and technology were living separately for years but now they both go hand in hand. I strongly feel that when healthcare and technology meet the outcome is unprecedented. This program gives a platform where I can do something constructive in the field of healthcare. With the help of technology, doctor’s availability to remote and rural areas has also increased, and they are now within the reach of patients through mobile phones in case of emergency. According to the American Health Information Management Association, Health information is the data related to a person’s medical history, including symptoms, diagnoses, procedures, and outcomes. Health information records include patient histories, lab results, x-rays, clinical information, and notes. The data can be analyzed to see how a patient’s health might have changed. I took interest in Health Information Management when it was brought to my attention by a doctor. He told me that is a very interesting field and it is in high demand as they have more jobs than people to fill them. I went home, researched it and now here I am making my entry into the field.

Attending the Masters of Public Health program at UNC Charlotte would open the door for me to pursue my career aspirations in health care.
