The health Policy News I read was about the Health Care Reform, which would guarantee access to high-quality healthcare for all, which has been advocated for decades by the American Nurses Association (ANA). According to the ANA (2016), the passage of Patient protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) ensues millions of people get greater protection against being denied or losing health insurance coverage, and better access to preventive and primary services. The ANA recognizes the ongoing debates and the organization is bent on educating the public about how the changing system affect the lives of nurses and their profession.
The ANA continues to represent

the interests of the nation’s nurses and patients, deliver nursing’s message, provide resources, develop solutions, and take action to ensure the successful implementation of health reform.

The ANA drafted a letter to President Trump in December 2016 outlining their principles for addressing changes in the Health care system and which are as follows: The ANA requested that the system must ensure universal access to a standard package of essential health care services for all citizens including other Services like the expansion of Medicaid. Secondly, the system must optimize primary, community-based and preventive services while supporting the cost-effective use of innovative, technology-driven,

acute, hospital based services such as Primary Health care that is focused on developing an engaged partnership with the patient, the one that also involves in preventive, curative and rehabilitative services which are delivered in a coordinated way among the members of the health care team and many other services. Like removing barriers and restrictions that prevent RNs and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses from contributing fully to patient care in all communities. Thirdly, the system must encourage mechanisms to develop economical use of health care services while supporting those who do not have the means to share on costs which can be in a form of a partnership between the government and private sector to bear health care costs, beneficiaries paying for a portion of their care to provide an incentive for payments are not a barrier to receiving care and so on. Last and not the least, the syste3m must “ensure a sufficient supply of a skilled workforce dedicated to providing high quality health care services which includes: An adequate supply of well-educated, well-distributed to providing high quality health care services” like an adequate supply of well-educated, well distributed, and well-utilized registered nurses and many others (ANA, 2016).
The key points were that the ANA advocated for Nurses and Patients for what are at stake for Nurses and Patients without the affordable Care Act based on Access, Cost, quality and Workforce, as these could cause positive changes in the health care system and was drafted to President Trump.
