Head to Head: A World of Computers
The world has come a long way with its development of technology. Day-by-day the people who are using and relying on technology have dramatically increased. But out of all these new technologies, the computer is probably one of the most important, if not the most. And two operating systems have been competing with each other from the beginning. These two companies are Apple with their Mac and Microsoft with their Windows PC. Although both Apple and Microsoft have created great machines they differ when it comes down to price, design and operating system, and popularity.
There is no question that when talking about computers the word price always comes up. Macs are known to not be the cheapest computer out on the market starting off around $900 US dollars. This can be associated with Apple manufacturing there own products and software which eliminates the benefit of buy cheaper parts from other manufactures but it also provides apple the chance to make there product the highest quality and provide the best performance possible out of there products. On the other hand Microsoft’s PCs, although built by several companies such as: HP, Samsung, Sony, Lenovo, Dell, etc, have always been on the cheaper side of things. The PC offers a different prices on there computers based on the brand and the part inside of it. Both Mac and PC can be upgraded with higher quality of performance parts but at the same time this increase its price. When talking about Mac and PC, price is not the only thing that varies in them.
At the moment that people are deciding to buy a computer the design of it plays a huge factor in there decision. The PC has always had a box like design structure tied down to it. Although they h...

... in the educative, journalistic, and creative development, the PC has been very popular around business and the PC gaming community. Like said before the windows operating system has been around for many years and it is all around the globe, which mean that it is accessible almost everywhere, making it great from businesses. Plus PC a generally cheaper than Mac and for a business that its going to buy several hundreds or maybe even thousands its much cheaper to get them all running with Microsoft’s operating system. Another factors that plays into the popularity of PC is its vast library of games that are available and are optimize for the PC. Compared to Mac the PC has a wider selection of games and can be upgraded for the best gaming experience possible. And with the rise of the gaming community in the past couple of years the PC has gained many possible buyers.
By 1993 Microsoft's windows computer programming function became the most widely used operating system in the world. When Microsoft was still an idea, Bill Gates led Apple to believe he would help them succeed in creating the best computer programming systems in the nation, however, Gates left it unknown to Apple he planned to release his own software. Gates took notes and allowed Apple to release the software he helped them to create. Then shortly after, Microsoft introduced windows. Apple claimed Gates had stolen their ideas, as windows looked surprisingly similar to Apple's version. Gates claimed he used his own ideas because it was his own that made Apple's renowned software. As Microsoft was leading in the world, Apple threatened Microsofts position in the world of technological advances by introducing a new software program that could potentially take Microsoft's top spot in the market away from them. Gates quickly said that he had created a new software that was set to release also, although he had no idea of new software at the time and made the excuse to possibly buy himself a bit of time. About eight months later, Microsoft released the new software program, as bill gates had proclaimed, retaining the top spot in the market. Microsoft's expansion today has reached every technological realm possible. Occluded in the newest developments are
When my Microsoft wanted to get into the gaming industry it knew it was going to face stiff competition. So it had to make a quality product. That’s what Microsoft actually did. Microsoft’s Xbox is technologically advanced than its competitors. It is basically a small pc. It contains Intel Pentium III 733 MHz processor, 64 MB of RAM, and NVIDIA chip. This gives the Xbox better graphics and faster game loads.
PCs are greater than any gaming console because games are cheaper. For instance, a newly released game on a gaming console average around $59.99. Anyone can argue that the same game on a PC is the same price however, that is the retail version. Newly released games on personal computers have the advantage to download games for a lower price that, are almost always on sale using digital downloading. The most recent deal I received on a personal computer game is Battlefield 4. The retail version was $59.99 on the release date for both platforms. However, the same day BF4 became available I found it on Origin(an online market program for games) for $29.99 for digital download. PC gamers are not locked into acquiring games from limited sources so, users can find cheaper games digitally. Consoles are bound to retail stores and their respective online market of either Xbox live or PlayStation network to name the two biggest markets.
All might think that a PC is awesome, but is not called Windows for nothing. When they say Windows they mean Windows. Macintosh has been known for it’s simplicity. Windows users say Mac has no games. I say to them there are games, but if you want to “play games” get a game system. Macs give a new vision in the computer industry.
Apple was definitely “thinking different” when it created the new addition to the Macintosh family, the iMac. It’s creative design and refreshing departure from the computer industry standard of boring beige boxes is gaining this marvel many optimistic reviews. This new personal computer, which is pronounced eye-Mac –the “i” stands for Internet, combines the computer and the monitor in one unit making it, in effect, an updated version of the original one-piece Macintosh. That makes the iMac ideal for people who want to conserve desk space.
Historically the personal computer (PC) industry has sold its products at reasonably high prices yet garnered only small profit margins. One reason for this is the high competition in the PC industry which led to competitive pricing among producers. Analyzing the competitive environment of the PC industry, it is evident that there is very little barrier to entry in this market. PC's have very low physical uniqueness and are made of standard components that require very little expertise to assemble.
Windows based computers are more practical, easier to use, and more versatile than Macintosh computers. There has always been much debate over which is the better system. There are people who are die-hard Macintosh users, and there are people who are the complete opposite, and naturally people sitting somewhere in between. The fact remains that the majority of home and business users own Windows based systems because of their versatility in all areas.
The similarities and the differences between Mac operating system (OS X) and Windows 10 operating system.
From 1980 to 1996, Apple’s competitive range in the PC industry was rocky. Although Apples products were unique and well built, they were overpriced compared to competing products from IBM and others. As competitor prices dropped, Apple prices stayed the same and the company saw a decline in sales as customers opted to purchase from its competitors. John Sculley, former CEO of Apple, took many steps to improve the company’s competitive advantage. One of those steps was to compete with price by producing a low-cost computers that appealed to a mass-market. The second step was to form an alliance with rivals IBM and Novel in order to create new operating systems and applications...
Microsoft’s mission of placing a “PC running Microsoft software on every desk and in every home” drove their overall strategy early on. Depending on the business segment within Microsoft, one would see in place very different business models as the strategy for each line of business could vary. In the operating system (OS) segment, Microsoft initially brought in an existing product and modified this (MS-DOS) to work with the Intel microprocessor, which were the “brains” of the IBM PC. Microsoft partnered with IBM to provide the operating system for the IBM PC. In addition to developing Windows, Microsoft during this period was working to write applications for the Apple OS.
The big difference is in the way both are manufactured, besides from the Operating System. When you buy a Windows-PC, you're buying a system from a whole bunch of different manufacturers. Intel or some other company might provide the processor; others will provide the hard drive, memory or monitor, while just the operating system is provided by Microsoft. The whole package is then put together and sold by a company such as Dell. Apple uses a different method, instead of different companies piecing their equipment together to make a whole unit; Apple provides the whole package both the hardware and the software.
Microsoft’s products include recent iterations like the Microsoft Surface, while Apple has a new Macbook in development. But their technologies are not limited to standard computers. Both companies are well respected in the smartphone market. Apple’s iPhone 6 is the world’s best selling smartphone and Microsoft’s line of Window’s phones are struggling to keep the competition. There is also the wearable technology revolution that has just begun with Apple’s Apple Watch sparking popularity in the market. Last, but not least, there is a significant amount of popularity in both Apple’s iPad and Microsoft’s Surface which is essential and touchscreen computer. Microsoft’s surface blurs the lines between laptop and tablet, with the Surface running a full version of Windows 8, while the newest iPad still runs the same operating system as the iPhone series, iOS. This example points out a key difference between Microsoft and Apple which is their operating systems and even their business
Until the 90s’ century, Apple had a competitive advantage over the competitor as IBM and Microsoft that justified the higher price of its PC, leading Apple to gain a high margin on its revenues, around 55%. But in 1990 Microsoft lunched its own new operating system based on Intel microprocessor, that counted 90% of the microprocessor in the world, and Microsoft earned the entire market share, leaving Apple in a niche, because developers opted for the dominant standard to deal

The computer evolution has been an amazing one. There have been astonishing achievements in the computer industry, which dates back almost 2000 years. The earliest existence of the computer dates back to the first century, but the electronic computer has only been around for over a half-century. Throughout the last 40 years computers have changed drastically. They have greatly impacted the American lifestyle. A computer can be found in nearly every business and one out of every two households (Hall, 156). Our Society relies critically on computers for almost all of their daily operations and processes. Only once in a lifetime will a new invention like the computer come about.
