In the sport of basketball, the roles and responsibilities of an assistant coach includes working under a head coach to make sure players, equipment and facilities are well-prepared and organized. An assistant coach maintains equipment to make sure it's available and in good working condition. Also, assistant coaches help with administrative tasks such as review report cards to determine eligibility, collect application forms and funds, make sure player's physical exams are current. However, some assistant coaches actually have direct coaching responsibilities, while others only respond to a main or head coach's directives. Nonetheless, in the sport of basketball as well as many other sports, many head coaches start out as assistant coaches

The drive for an athlete to succeed is affected by the player’s relationship with their coach. For Rosie Ferguson, J. Peter Billings was a handsome coach whom Rosie was deeply attracted to. When referring to Peter, Rosie, “basked in his attention and tried to play so well and so hard that he would stay” (6), hoping she could perform to her best level just to keep Peter engaged in her matches. In Crooked Little Heart, and many times in literature such as in Golden Boy, both the play and movie, athletes perform for the hope to be recognized by their coach. Rosie and her doubles partner Simone Duvall occasionally received attention from Peter if his boys played in the same tournament. But if Peter’s boys were not competing in the same tournament as the girls, Peter would not show up for the match. Because Rosie was looking for more attention, she invested herself into Luther, a man who watched every match of hers from a distance, and eventually became a second “coach.” In the play Golden Boy, Joe Bonaparte proved to his manager, Tom Moody, that he could fight having no prior experience as a professional boxer. Joe had the motivation and the will-power to gain attention from the doubtful Tom Moody. Unconvinced too was Tom Moody in the movie, Golden Boy, as no-name Joe asks for a chance to prove himself as a fighter. Rosie and Joe both wanted a chance to succeed in their athletic careers and show their coaches what they could do.
There is a wide range of responsibilities for an athletic trainer, as they may work in many different environments. The general duties include assessment/diagnosis, rehabilitation, treatment and prevention of athletic injuries, and basic medical care. The specialized duties for an athletic trainer at the high school level will be very different than those at a professional level. This is due to a categorical distinction, as there is far more team funding at the professional level than in college or high school. Their tasks also vary greatly by sport, as contact/high intensity team sports typically produce more injuries than do single player sports. Athletic trainers in a clinic or hospital setting...

A proper coaching philosophy contains principles which improve character development, teach step by step tactical and technical skills, form proper progressive physical training regimens, and carefully utilize team management to handle and control problems with administrative issues. A coach with a sound philosophy should mold a team with strong cohesion, and he should treat players not only as teammates, but as family and friends who are encouraged to develop communication and lifelong learning of skills through positive support and role modeling from the coach (Mergelsberg, 14-15). The philosophy should also contain written documents of implemented strategies and techniques, so that the coach will know what to improve upon season by season
Working at a school would not have been a top choice but as an athletic director it seems fun and enjoyable. An athletic director oversees all school sports and makes sure that everyone follows the rules and does not disobey the coaches (Bean-Mellinger, Barbara). They also have to attend all games and matches that are scheduled (Hinginbotham, Heather). As well as attending all the games they have to hire the officials that are needed for the games (Higinbotham, Heather). Athletic directors also might have to fire coaches and other athletic department employees if needed (Bean-Mellinger, Barbara). They also have to set or approve job descriptions for each position (Bean-Mellinger, Barbara). Every athletic director job is different depending on the size of school; their daily routine might be different from others. In smaller schools the athletic director might have to teach classes as well as do their own job. But as for larger school they will only be an athletic director. In some jobs they are physical education teachers as well as an athletic director (Baccadutre).
John wooden a former player and later became a basketball coach once said. “A coach much never forget that he is a leader and not merely a person with authority.” Basketball has been something in our everyday lives for a while. To allot it something they just can't live without and others just choose to not even bother with it. I think that it is worth the time to look more into basketball. Basketball can be started at a elementary school level, and they can usually go to sign up at local boys and girls clubs maybe at their school if they offer it and can even join through their church if they attend one and they offer it to them. Being a coach seems easy to most parents but it really isn't how it isn't is a coach must ensure that players

They have to deal with every athlete that comes in, decide who gets to meet with the doctor, rehabilitate athletes that come in, handle the budget, keep inventory, and communicate effectively with coaches and medical personnel (1). In most athletic training facilities, the head trainer is male. Gender stereotyping is not as prevalent in athletic training as it is in other professions, but there are a few barriers that prevent women from rising to that position. A study showed female athletic trainers in the head position did not seek that role but assumed the role of head athletic trainer due to strong job performance. However, things such as life-balancing and parenting emerged as barriers to females being head athletic trainers. The resulting responsibilities and additional demands were potential problems for females in the field (2). It is not to say that there are not females that are head athletic trainers but it is not seen as often. Regardless of specific title, being an athletic trainer requires a lot of responsibilities and dedication to the
The term “coach” in this context would not mean someone sitting on a bench and telling the players whose turn it is to go in the game. Coach in this context would mean someone explaining the rules and teaching the game. The first use of the term coaching to mean an instructor or trainer arose around 1830 in Oxford University slang for a tutor who "carries" a student through an exam. Whoever invents a sport usually would become the first coach of the sport. James Naismith invented the game of basketball in Springfield, Massachusetts. He became the first ever basketball coach, he is known as the father of basketball, even though his record as a coach at the University of Kansas was a mediocre fifty five wins and sixty losses.
For workplace coaching to be effective a coach much manage the process in order to get the best out of the coachee. Whilst it is the coachee who is going to find their own solutions the coach must have the skills and correct techniques to help this become a reality. The coach must allow a two way conversation to occur where the coachee is encouraged to participate with the use of open questions and active listening. A coach should ideally be allowing the coachee to speak more than being spoken to. The process should be interactive, well structured but fluid enough to revisit certain areas if necessary. The sessions should ideally last 60-90 minutes and can be conducted face to face or telephone. Coaching confidentiality boundaries are set in
It takes away a lot of free time that you may have with other jobs. Some of the general duties of a professional coach are being able to give back to the community, being able to spend extra time after practice with players to work on their skills or even talk game plans with the players. Some other duties would be to address the media after games or before a special event, also coming up with big decision on deciding young players to draft for your team to try and build a championship organization. Now when it comes to specific duties the number one job is to coach your players during the games also during close games you have to come up with the best end of game scenario to put your team in the best situation so you really have to out coach the other coach.
Becoming a coach has different ways. It can take some college, often teachers must teach in a field that matches their bachelor’s degree. Now there are coaches that teach as well or athletic coordinators. Athletic coordinators are coaches that deal with just sports and do not teach. Those have to go through a different process that regular coaches. For becoming a coach some have to know some health levels. With being a coach , athletes often get hurt and need to know how to properly take care of it. Sometimes when wanting to coach a specific sport you may have to have some background with that sport. According to Cabral in the book “The Successful Coach”, “coaching is not easy to define”. (1996). The International Sports Coaching Framework states that; “coaching is a process of guided improvement and development in a single sport at identifiable stages of athlete development” (ICCE, 2012). In the book “What is Sports Coaching”, they have a similar way of defining a coach by saying; “a coach is someone who uses sport as a vehicle for the development of individuals both as performers and as people” (Miles, What is Sports Coaching?, 2003). As a sports coach you can also influence the development of your athlete personally by promoting their own welfare, learning life skills and how to manage their own personal affairs, (e.g. education),
