Conclusion: I think Brian is brave enough to survive on his own. I cannot believe that he is only 13 yeard old. If I was just at the same situation, I believe that I could not do that as Brian did. I respect Brian. Also, if the hatchet was not on his hand, how did brian survive? Brian was able to live thanks to the hatchet. He was very good to use it. This theme is not as many as all. So this story is interesting and is a good example of fiction. Brian learned most things that normal students can not get from their schools. I think it will be the best learning time for Brian. This book attracted me from the first page of book to the last page. I really satisfied with this book.
Brian quickly made a fire using small pieces of bark that caught fire really fast. He now had warmth and a shelter, the only he needed was a steady food supply.
In the books Hatchet, Guts, and Island of the Blue Dolphins the characters all go through horrifying experiences. In Hatchet, a boy named Brian is forced to fly a plane after the pilot dies of a heart attack. In Island of the Blue Dolphins, a girl named Karana and her brother were left behind by their clan. In Guts, a man named Gary Paulsen answers emergency ambulance calls and witnesses many deaths from people.
Hatchet by Gary Paulson is a fiction novel about a thirteen-year-old boy named Brian that survives a plane crash after the pilot dies of a heart attack and Brian is forced to land the plane himself, and in doing so, lands in a lake around the setting of a Canadian forest. Throughout the duration of the novel, Brian is to survive this dangerous situation with nothing except for a literal hatchet that was gifted to him by his mother prior to getting on the plane to go visit his father in the Canadian North Woods as his parents are newly separated after a recent divorce. Gary Paulsen was inspired to write Hatchet from his own life and personal experiences as both of his parents gave him a hard time growing up through their rocky marriage and unstable parenting as well as the fact that he grew up in the country and had to provide for himself. Hatchet also received a 1988 Newbery Honor award for its excellency. The fiction book is a piece of his life and it’s struggles as he wrote it to convey the following opinions: positivity can get you far no matter what the situation at hand may be, man can
He had to adapt from a normal teenager to a boy living in a Canadian wilderness. I am around the same age as Brian, but our lives are completely different. We are both very persistent in all the things we do. Brian is an important character in Hatchet because when he arrived in the forest, he used the hatchet his mother gave him and other resources around him to survive in a new environment. “I might be hit but I'm not done. I still have the hatchet and that's all I had in the first place." This quote shows Brian’s perseverance to survive. Lastly, Brian is a courageous boy who always strives to do his
Brian’s life is already very hard, as he lives with his mother, a single woman, far away from his father. Brian’s parents are going through a very bitter divorce, which pulls Brian between both parents (Saurino). The pilot of the airplane suffers a heart attack, and Brian must make a difficult decision (Sutherland). He must decide whether to land the plane early, to avoid flying too far away from help, or to keep the plane flying and use the pilots radio to call for help. Eventually, Brian decides to land the plane in the Canadian wilderness.
When the pilot found him, the old Brian would have not been very patient to get on the plane and go home, but now he is kind and patient, because I think he realizes that the pilot has probably just saved his life, and he really owes the pilot. In chapter 19, the text says “He looked at the pilot and the plane, and down at himself - dirty and ragged, burned and lean and tough - and he coughed to clear his throat. ‘My name is Brian Robeson,’ he said. Then he saw that his stew was done, the peach whip almost done, and he waved to it with his hand. ‘Would you like something to eat?’” This quote really shows that he has grown as a person and has gained kindness and patience. Before this experience, he would’ve not said anything and just got on the plane and whined to go home. Now, he is inviting him to eat, showing that he is waiting, so he is more patient, and by offering the pilot something it shows that he is
In the later part of Hatchet after the skunk, Brian has a short time of peace but after he goes through a major negative change, he makes a change for the better. When Brian is at the lake he hears a faint plane engine, he rushes to his shelter to light a signal fire, but when he gets there the plane turns around. Brian goes through a time of grief, he has dark thoughts and tries to suicide, but Brian goes through a change, he becomes a new Brian, he learns that nature does not forgive. When Brian misses the plane, he changed for the better and he learns that nature is cruel you just need to do your best to survive and thrive. Even though Brian went through his dark times, he came out stronger, he learned from his
Just like in “Hatchet” a adventure story about a boy who is in a plane to visit hiss father when the plane crashes and he is left in the woods to survive on his own with nobody to help him by Gary Paulsen HIs plane crashes in the canadian north woods and every day he made a mistake and he never made the same mistake again because he learned from his mistakes and adapted. Just like the other characters will. Another story is “middle
From only pages of the book, Brian starts to learn. When the pilot offers him a quick ‘lesson’ of flying the Cessna plane, this saves his life when the pilot dies a horrific heat attack in his seat. This causes Brian to panic, but he safely crash lands inside a lake.
“ I survived because the fire inside me burned brighter than the fire around me.” To be able to survive you need to have the ability to be the best you can be and adjust to the things around you. I believe that brian changed. He grew from his mistakes he made and things that he did right. He was a new person after his journey and took the traits he had gained and put them into reality. I believe that patience, perseverance and confidence are significant traits to obtain. There are many crucial traits to survival that stick with you forever.
He came upon a river, a body of water that was new to him. Into a canoe he went being shipped off. He describes the raw emotions he felt being so young going through such terrifying events. He was so unsure what was the change. All he knew is that the people were foreign and life would never be the way it
The main character, Tom Tin, faces hardships and struggles many fourteen year olds do not have to face so early on. His father has mistakenly got himself into trouble and it is up to Tom to save his father and help make his family’s future bright again. Tom has good intentions throughout the novel, but he gets himself into trouble. He turns out to be an unlikely hero after pushing through his doubts and finally triumphing over his mistakes along his journey.
In “The Myth of the Cave,” one of the men was released from his chains and was able to observe his surroundings. At first he was very confused at the blinding sight of the blazing fire and the black cut-outs. Eventually someone lead him out of the cave and into the rays of sunlight. In Jonathan Livingston Seagull, after Jonathan had left the flock, he was accompanied by two brilliant seagulls. He practiced flying with them and learned many things from them. Soon, he met another wise Seagull named Chiang that taught him far more than he ever knew was possible. Jonathan was trapped in his flock, trying to teach himself how to fly better until someone helped him discover even
Brian is a thirteen year old boy who was in a plane crash. Although he did survive, he needs some supplies to help him live. If Brian found a survival bag, there would be ten items in it. First, the most important one, a Lifestraw water filter and a canteen to put the water in it. Brian had already tried to drink the water from the lake but got sick because it wasn't clean, therefore, with the water filter he can drink the water. The second item would be a Snow peak tent (one man tent) so he can sleep in it without worrying that something will come in the tent because it will be sealed shut and a sleeping bag to prevent him from being cold. Thirdly, he would need Off bug spray because in the book, he gets bitten by many bugs in his shelter.
