Has The Internet Done More Harm Than Good
The topic on Has The Internet Done More Harm Than Good is important because it has been debated about countless times and is still ongoing. There are hundreds of reasons backing both sides’ arguments. The Internet is such an important place; it builds bridges to other countries and people but also destroys people's lives. Over 80,000 people are affected by phishing scams. The governments of our countries use it to spy and gather information on people; everyone everywhere uses it.
On the Global scale it isn’t a question on whether the internet has done good or bad because it is so dearly required, the world would simply not go around without it. What is questioned about the Internet however is the way of use. People around the world are using the Internet’s exploitations to take money and other things from people. Many governments are considering censoring the Internet to protect people from phishing, scamming and fraud. The problem governments have when censoring the Internet is that it robs the option to surf the web and research things. If a country censored it’s population’s Internet e.g. China, it would face huge amounts of unrest and the government popularity would decrease majorly. The ability for anyone to be able to publish anything online without barriers resulted in a large amount of information which could not only be incorrect but also could be criminal, discriminatory or offensive if it were available to the general population. This sort of information would not usually be widely published via offline channels, but with the invention of the Internet it is easily accessible by anyone like never before, and this is quite dangerous.

... even exist in a library take now only take minutes to research from your own home. The internet practically removes the hassle of driving to a library single handedly because there is such a large community that are always adding to the huge stockpile of information. Most of the bad things brought on by the Internet already existed previously, such as "adult content". While the Internet has made it much more straight forward to find these adult materials and fall into traps set by predators, it barely discovered and put into practice the idea of children looking at adult content. Children were acquiring adult magazines from random places decades before they downloaded pictures and looked at them on the Internet. The main point is that someone would be able to make a bomb from scratch without the internet, the only thing the internet does is speed this process up.
The internet damages us, people have lost their ability to read full articles and don’t fully understand what they read and because of this, our natural intelligence will never be the same with the internet around, thinking for us.
The internet is used today for many reasons. It is a platform for people to stay in touch with others, entertain themselves and complete work tasks. In the following articles, “Internet Addiction Left my Brother Homeless” by Winston Ross and “The Pointlessness of Unplugging” by Casey N. Cep, the internet is discussed very deeply, but in two varying lights. In the article by Cep the author is writing from personal experiences and research. In the article by Ross the author is writing merely from opinions.
In elementary and middle school we did all of our work on printed articles or books, but now in high school and college everything is online. I feel that I was a stronger reader and had better study habits when I read print and now that we read online it has affected me negatively. Although reading online or finding information online may be easier, I feel as if it has made me lazy and has shortened my attention span.
Our society is advancing through the internet, not digressing from it. We are learning to be more understanding and stand up for each other because of it, as it creates links around the globe. We are able to remain in contact with old friends, keeping relationships going, and making contact with people we would never meet in our lives away from the computer screen. It exposes us to so much, and opens are minds to the world, providing an opportunity for expression, and a chance to have an impact on the world and each other. To censor the internet would not only be a great injustice to all the advancements we have made through this immense mass of networks, but a crime against humanity and its freedoms themselves.
I remember the first time I sat on a computer; it was an IBM with a windows 98 installed. We didn’t have Internet connection at the time, and we mainly used our computer for work. The Internet has been around for almost half a century, it has helped us humans communicate easier, get around the world accessibly and exchange goods and services effortlessly. The Internet helped us facilitate a lot of tasks; in the past we had to do a lot of work to get something we needed. Nowadays all of what we can possibly want can be done with a click of a button. The Internet can enhance some of our cognitive abilities; understand thoroughly what we want to know, new concepts and different ways of acquiring knowledge and eventually sharpen our brains to live better.
Internet is bad for our culture and society because we use internet all the time without knowing that we are addicted. It is a drug and it reacts as a drug on us once we start we cant stop. We would have to make it a huge deal because many people don’t know that it is a problem and they all are affected by it.
The internet as we all know is probably the most useful resource known to man in this day of age. Not only is the internet easy to access its easy to use. Nearly everyone owns a computer and nearly all of which have access to the internet. But isn't that a good thing? Millions of people having the ability to access and share all the information anybody could ever want.
Although, it is unfair to blame technology because of the content people put on it. Greenfield, Patricia, and Zheng Yan put it best when they say, “Just as we cannot ask whether a knife is inherently good or bad, we cannot ask whether the Internet is good or bad; we can simply document how it is used.” So, as much as some may blame the Internet for its problems, the real war is against the substance within the Internet (Greenfield, Patricia, and Zheng Yan 390-93). And thus comes the main argument against the Internet, is the composition of the Internet harmful to children?
Internet is a network that virtually connects computers around the world. It has an address network which makes communication possible between the computers. It is an open phone line and an open television channel to millions of people around the world who can communicate anonymously (Palmer, 2006). People use it to exchange files and e-mails, to surf the World Wide Web, to download songs or other types of files, to take part of discussion boards, and to send instant messages. It can be beneficial when it comes to freedom of press, and less disintermediation between people (Palmer, 2006). It can also be of assistance when it comes to doing some kind of research, finding some specific information about any topic, or even getting an undergraduate or a postgraduate degree when it comes to busy people who want to expand their horizons. However, internet has many risks in contrast to its benefits and it should not be used by children without adult supervision and parental control.
The internet has a positive impact much like cell phones. By this I am mainly talking about email and instant messenger. Email has had a huge impact on family life because it allows families to write each other that might not be able to talk to each other very often. Most email are free this is ...
The internet is full of many things that could make us smarter. However, the internet is full of websites, games, even photos that could very likely have a negative effect on children and their behaviors. Also their education, speech could become affected and they could start doing badly in school or start cursing at a young age. Another thing is that their attitude towards life changes, instead of seeing it as their own giant happy playground they can view it as a very bitter and cold place and start looking, feeling, and talking negatively.
Everything revolves around the internet these days. Every business, big or small has a internet website for you to visit. Let’s face it, the internet is not going away, we as a people must learn to use this tool and not think of it as a negative thing. The internet must be used positively to benefit us. We can find anything we want through the internet. The internet can be abused but we must educate our children so they can use it effectively to their advantage. We definitely need to make most schools have the internet in classrooms, there is no doubt about it.
In conclusion, the Internet has built up our society, but it could also tear it down with a major Internet black out. The Internet offers great opportunities for technological advancement. It has created a new way of personal, social, and business interactions. I believe the Internet was one of the best creations of time and I cannot wait to see what is in store for the future of the Internet and its relationship with human kind.
The Internet along with other technologies has opened channels of communication. Not only has the Internet played a great role in forming international public opinions regarding the United States throughout the Middle East, Asia, and Western Europe, but it has also helped to democratize the rest of the world by allowing them to voice their own opinions. However, sometimes the incited cyber public opinions would lead to some extremely negative behaviors and cause serious problems like cyber bullying, real life crimes, and even a long time social unrest.
There are a lot of people in this world that uses computers and the internet all day, everyday. A lot of us use it at school, at work, and even at home. Computers have made our whole life easier and has brought plenty of benefits to society and plenty of problems like cybercrimes. The internet seem like a type of community of computer networks, however you could consider it a society. There is education, commerce, entertainment (good and bad), and there is crime, cybercrime. Cybercrime is impossible without the use of the internet. Real life society has police and laws to regulate people actions, unfortunately right now the internet is missing this type of control.
