Harry Potter is quiet modest and humble compared to the stereotypical hero in most novels. His horrible, bullied, upbringing in the home of his adoptive relatives plays an important role in how he stays so humble and reluctant to accept his praise as a hero. As a result of this upbringing, he also does not see himself as a significant individual. Harry is neither right nor wrong to reject his praise due to the circumstances but his superior modesty shows how true of a hero Harry really is.
Harry grew up with the Dursley’s, his adoptive relatives after the passing of both his parents. “He lived with the Dursley’s almost ten year, ten miserable years.”(27) There is nothing joyful in the way Harry Potter lived with these relatives, he slept in a cupboard under the stairs and was often locked in there for hours at a time, and they constantly bullied nd mistreated him since the day he was left on their door step. He was not honoured, respected or treated how any human being or child for that matter deserved. “Harry had always been small and skinny for his age, he looked even smaller and skinnier than he was because all he had to wear were old clothes of Dudley’s and Dudley was about four times bigger than he was.” (20) Dudley was Harry’s cousin whom he also lived with. The difference between Harry and Dudley was that Dudley was highly the favourite child, spoiled, and treated like gold. Harry wore Dudley’s hand me down clothes and often catered to him. Growing up like this resulted in Harry not feeling like he was great or worth anything, just an ordinary, scrawny, boy that was not capable of much.
For growing up in such ways Harry is extremely brave and proves his heroic qualities in more than one way after moving to Hogwarts, fro...

...the spotlight, and does what he believes is right and that is why Dumbledore addresses what Harry has done. That is what a true hero is all about.
Aside from where Harry grew up and who raised him he grows as a person every day. He fights for what he believes, he is brought into a life he has never heard of and is informed that he is a wizard, all of which is so new to him, and taking that all in and achieving what he has is part of the reason he is significant. Along with that, as terrible as the Dursley’s were to him it was one of the greatest reasons Harry was able to stay humble and not see himself any different or better than any other human being. There is no hero with the same traits or humbleness that Harry represents and that makes him a true, modest hero.

In this essay I have only shown three, but there are so many more and the traits of a hero are not only restricted to people who save lives, chase bad guys, or change the world. He overcame constant pressures with his determination, led a whole team with his outstanding leadership, and never gave up thanks to his passion. He is a hero to many, no cape, or superpowers needed. So now it’s up to you, is he, or is he not, a
In this world one does not often encounter a hero. A true hero dedicated his life to putting others before himself. Through his actions as a hero, Atticus plants the seeds of morality in his community and watches them grow.
Harry’s parents don’t really know how to raise a child. The spend thier days partying and drinking. Harry is mentally abused and pohysically abused. He has no real diet and the food that he eats he just has find it and whatever looks good he eats. He doesnt take life seriously because his parenst don’t take life seriously. Because of this Harry really doesnt know how to be a real child and how to act. He takes life as a joke and doesnt think that anything actually serious, and orginially he told everyone that his name was Bevel. When Harry arives at the river for his bapatism he meets a very strict preacer and Harry doesnt know how to talk to him, harry says,
Just like Huck, many do not have a good example to follow, so after reading Huck Finn, Huck becomes that example. Who better than a stubborn, uneducated boy? Huck Finn erases stereotypes of how one has to follow in their parents footsteps and allows anyone
This man cares more about the wants and needs of the people around him then his own. Percy is brave in the toughest of situations, and stands up for what is right. Percy Jackson has even saved the world twice, by leading armies he organised on his own.
It takes a lot to be called a hero. Robert F. Kennedy once said, “Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or the lot of others. Or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope.” A hero is someone that will always be remembered for something good that they did. There are numerous reasons as to why one can say Harry Truman is a hero. His commitment and strength began earlier in his life when he decided to serve his country by joining the army during the World War (Miller 132).
Just to quickly run through the two previous books; Harry Potter is a wizard, who’s parents were killed by the worst dark wizard ever known. The reason why Harry Potter is still around, is because Lord Voldemort failed to kill Harry. His spell hit Harry, but then backfired on Voldemort taking all of his powers with him. Harry is so famous for two things. Withstanding the powers of Lord Voldemort, and, taking him back in to the underworld in hiding. In the first book, Harry receives a letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He’s eventually allowed to go, and spends the next six months there learning magic, getting into trouble, and trying to solve mysteries of his past, and the school. In the second book, Harry goes back to his second year at Hogwarts, and gets into more trouble, figures out many astonishing mysteries and learns loads more magic. His best friends in the two books consist of Ron and Hermione (two of his fellow wizard students) and Hagrid the gamekeeper who was expelled from Hogwarts but allowed a job as the gamekeeper.
According to “The Hero’s Journey”, societies throughout history have lifted up exemplary individuals. There is almost always one individual who is a perfect example. He is the guy that leads others and is looked up to. The greeks valued a character that they could aspire to be. Also from “The Hero’s Journey”, the hero seems to be invincible and incorruptible. The hero is tested, but he always seems to prevail. In real life, this can be seen as a world leader or a famous warrior. As quoted from The Odyssey, “ He fought only to save his life and to bring his shipmates home.”(561). The hero always fights for good causes and for others. You never hear about a hero being selfish or foolish. They are always pure and just, so they are often well known and popular among the
Often heroes in fantasy such as either of the books described, come from humble beginnings. They then provide a quest, journey, or mission that is slowly revealed. It also creates a small microcosm that fosters the evolution of the hero. Often these personal mentors are not all benevolent. One example would be Snape a professor of Harry’s that seeks to chastise a...
In his own eyes, Harry is a poor nobody. He is young, modest, and innocent, living a sheltered life and naïve to the immensity of the world. The truth is that Harry is a victim to elements of another world. For instance, the dark Lord Voldemort, an evil wizard, attempts to kill Harry and ends up destroying his family, leaving him with his cruel relatives. Otherwise unharmed, Harry is left with his lightening bolt scar on his forehead representing his terrible past, marking his fame, and symbolizing his destiny. Even though Harry leads a boring, ordinary life on Privet Drive with “the last people you’d expect to be involved in anything strange or mysterious” (1), Harry’s scar hints at something more than ordinary,
“It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities” (Rowling 333). This quote, from the beloved character Albus Dumbledore in the book The Chamber of Secrets by author J.K. Rowling, counsels young wizard, Harry Potter, about the importance of true character. Throughout the Harry Potter series, Harry struggles with internal conflict about whether his powers are meant for good or evil. Dumbledore assures Harry his powers are intended for good because of the choices he makes. Harry learns who he truly is through the challenges he faces and the decisions that follow.
This aspect of Harry’s low esteem and lack of identity makes him doubtful and confused. Unfortunately, Harry’s father and mother had been murdered by the evil Wizard, Lord Voldemort. In this family life, Harry is future victimized by the selfishness of Uncle Vernon and his wife. These domestic experiences in the “real world” are grim, as they often involve Harry’s struggle with Uncle Vernon. In this way, Uncle Vernon prevents him realizing his true identity as the son of a famous “pure-blood” wizard. For example, Uncle Vernon prevents Harry from seeing letters from a mysterious writer that seeks to know his
In the novel Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathan Swift, there are many reasons that Lemuel Gulliver should and should not be considered a hero. Three characteristics that make someone a hero are being good-natured, naive, and wise. Gulliver in this story shows these characteristics at one time or another. In the novel, Gulliver’s Travels, Lemuel Gulliver is considered a hero.
Harry Potter starts off slow, but gets very interesting near the end. In the beginning, you meet the Dursleys, Harry’s aunt, uncle, and their son Dudley. Then you learn that Harry’s parents were witches, and that they were destroyed by a evil wizard. A good witch, Albus Dumbeldoor, sends Harry to the Dursleys, because they’re his only remaining family. The Dursleys however, hated Harry and his family, so Harry was mistreated for years. He was forced to live in a cuborrod under the stairs. He had to watch as the fat, stuck up Dudley got whatever he wanted, and then usually broke whatever it was he got. Then one day Harry got a letter.
They have experienced risking their life or helping someone who needed the help. Whether that person was in the right place at the right time, they still displayed heroism. Over the years, heroism has completely changed because Ancient Greeks thought of it as a woman of higher status. In today’s world, we appreciate those who have sacrificed their life to save that special someone. Showing great courage, allows others to see your heroic self. Heroism has influence others to see famous people as a hero, but not all famous people are heroes. Heroism, overall, has changed the world because of the people it has impacted. Being heroic doesn’t always impact everyone, but it does show your courage as a
