J. K. Rowling writer of the series of Harry Potter, in which the last book of the series shows the ultimate sacrifice that Harry and his friends make to save the world from the evil of Voldemort as he is gathering his forces to eliminate harry once and for all. The death eaters are in the midst of infiltrating the ministry of magic. Meanwhile their enemies, the Order of the phoenix, are making plans to move Harry from Privet Drive, which will cease to be a safe place for him as soon he turns seventeen. Snape betrays the Order’s plan to Voldemort. This research paper will look at the theme of sacrifice that is portrayed in the book, namely Harry Potter and the deathly hollows, which is the last book of the series (Rowling).

Harry, Ron, and Hermione make a quick escape, but are immediately found by Death Eaters. They escape once more, and flee to the former Order of the Phoenix headquarters at Sirius's house, 12 Grimmauld Place. There, they discover the secret of who R.A.B. is it was Sirius's brother Regulus Arcturus Black, who was a Death Eater, but turned against Voldemort, the Wizarding world and the Muggle world start to collapse a little bit here, with Voldemort's plans to basically enslave the Muggles which is the outside world under wizard domination. Unbeknownst to them, Voldemort poses as much a threat to Muggles as he does to the wizarding world. In the real world we all know what it is like to give up something we love or care about, but hopefully none of us really know the kind of pain that Harry goes through in this book when he got to give up his life to save the world. Sacrifice is the ultimate lynch pin here, upon which this whole saga swings. Lily’s sacrifice of herself for Harry which was followed by Harry’s own sacrifice of his life for everyone else is the key element of the story that no matter how much we try to live in peace one way or the other we have to sacrifice something in our lives for someone or something which is all tied up in the question of love
