In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the characters are faced with many choices. Voldemort is evil and only makes bad choices, but everyone else makes a mixture of good and bad choices, some of which they regret. Draco Malfoy is Harry’s rival at Hogwarts and is choosing to side with Voldemort. Voldemort has told him to kill Dumbledore. Draco tries to poison him and give him a cursed necklace, but only ends up hurting others. He chose to let Death Eaters into the castle, which causes a large battle. At the end, Draco chooses not to kill Dumbledore and seems to regret letting the Death Eaters in. Dumbledore chooses to trust Harry and tell him what he knows about Voldemort. He finds Voldemort’s ring and puts it on, but doesn’t realize
In movies, novels, and life, people are named as heroes. The heroes we establish and the heroes we recognize, however, may not meet the criteria for a mythic hero. A mythic hero ventures forth on his journey, and comes forth from the hero’s path to greatness. Joseph Campbell, a mythologist who studied many of the great human myths and religious tales, realized, in studying these myths and tales, that there were certain steps that every hero went through. Campbell called this “The Hero’s Journey”; it is based on Carl Jung's idea that all human beings have an archetype. After Campbell studied a lot of the great myths and realized this pattern, he published his findings in his book The Hero with a Thousand Faces. Ever since then, authors have used “The Hero’s Journey” as an outline to tell their stories. “It is important to note that not all of these individual steps are present in every hero’s tale, nor is it important that they be in this exact order” (Vogler 20). The Hero with a Thousand Faces gives a sense of significance as it looks into the inner mind and soul. The author, Joseph Campbell, performs two extraordinary accomplishments: compelling his readers that myth and dream, those are the most effective and everlasting forces in life and a unification of mythology and psychoanalysis with a gripping narrative. One well-known example of “The Hero’s Journey” from popular culture is the Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, by J.K. Rowling. In the novel, Harry Potter, the main character, is the chosen one and “The Hero’s Journey” applies to his life from the moment he is attacked by He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named as a baby.
Tom Riddle, AKA Lord Voldemort, was a half-blood prince known to be the most powerful dark wizard of all time. Riddle came from a wealthy muggle father Tom Riddle Senior and mother witch Merope Gaunt, who died shortly after Tom was born. Tom’s father left shortly after Merope found out she was expecting and left him the heir of Slytherin. Tom was raised in a muggle orphanage and when he became of age attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He was placed in the Slytherin house, the most powerful house, and was the most talented student to ever attend Hogwarts. After Hogwarts Tom went on to work at Borgin and Burkes for a brief time before he disappeared for many years.
Harry has spent all summer waiting to hear news about Lord Voldemort, a evil wizard that Harry saw return the year before, but nobody believes him. One evening after listening to news ,he decides to go for a walk. He then sees his cousin, who he lives with and hates. They then get in a fight and Harry pulls out his wand and at that exact moment two dementors attack them. Dudley thinks Harry is attacking him so he punches Harry. Harry then heroically saves them both by producing a patronus and driving away the dementors.
Everyone makes at least one decision in their lifetime and it’s not always a good choice or decision. Some are small, domestic, and innocuous. Others are more important, affecting people’s lives, livelihoods, and well-being. Many of the simple decisions people make like what color pants they will wear today or whether or not they want spaghetti for dinner, etc. are often automatic or based on their preference at a given moment. It is easy for the reader who enters the enchanted realm of Tolkien's own work to be lost in the magic of the Middle-Earth and to forbear to ask questions. Surrounded by elves, hobbits, dragons and orcs, wandering the pristine fields and woods, described with such loving care they seem almost real, it is easy to forget there is another world outside, the world in which John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, an Oxford don, lived and wrote his monumental series of fantasy novels. It is, after all, natural to want to escape humdrum reality. Literature that offers a simple pleasure of a different time, a different place has nothing to be ashamed of. Tolkien in the same essay describes "escape and consolation" as one of the chief functions of the fairy-tale by which term he understands also what we would call "literary fantasy" today. "Escape and consolation" seem to be self-evident terms. What is there to discuss? Perhaps all that I have to do today is to praise Tolkien's fertile imagination and to step modestly aside.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban starts off with Potter leaving his home after blowing his Aunt Marge up(Like a balloon). He is picked up by the Knight Bus, transports stranded witches or wizards, and is dropped off at Diagon Alley, where he meets Ron and Hermione and is informed about Sirius Black(wants to kill Potter apparently). On their way to Hogwarts(Magic school) a dementor enters the train and confronts Potter, but is saved by Professor Lupin. Draco Malfoy continues to make fun of Potter throughout the movie. However, Malfoy is attacked by a hippogriff(During Hagrid’s class) which resulted in the hippogriff being sentenced to death. Tolkien's famous book, "The Lord of the Rings", has been repudiated as one of the best fantasies ever written. Tolkien creates a very deep intimacy between the book and the reader, he captures the reader's attention and lures him into the story. One of the ways how this cathartic relationship is created is through the use of reality of the situation in the story. Tolkien has conjured up a fantasy language, to show the actuality this novel may present. Some quotations of this language are:
There are situations where choices are 100% in the story. In act 1 scene 5, Capulet says, “He shall be endured. What, goodman boy! I say, he shall. Go to. Am I the master here, or you? Go to. You’ll not endure him! God shall mend my soul, You’ll make a mutiny among my guests.vYou will set cock-a-hoop. You’ll be the man!” Lord Capulet makes the decision to let Romeo be at peace while at his party. This is a major decision due to the fact that this is where Romeo first sees and meets Juliet. Which leads to the story about fate, choices, and two young lovers named Romeo and Juliet. In act 2 scene 3, Friar Laurence says, “Oh, she knew well, Thy love did read by rote, that could not spell. But come, young waverer, come, go with me, In one respect I’ll thy assistant be, For this alliance may so happy prove, To turn your households' rancor to pure love.” Friar makes the decision to help the young lovers by agreeing to marry them in secret. He means well to unite the families but the road to hell is paved with good intentions. As

This quote, from the beloved character Albus Dumbledore in the book The Chamber of Secrets by author J.K. Rowling, counsels young wizard, Harry Potter, about the importance of true character. Throughout the Harry Potter series, Harry struggles with internal conflict about whether his powers are meant for good or evil. Dumbledore assures Harry his powers are intended for good because of the choices he makes. Harry learns who he truly is through the challenges he faces and the decisions that follow.
