Harrison Bergeron is a tough and mean character, but also is elegant and gentle, but only on occasion. He is referred to as under-handicapped, he was in jail for plotting to overthrow the government, but he also danced with a ballerina without killing her. This shows great fluctuation in his feelings as a character.

Harrison Bergeron is super tough because he is referred to as under handicapped. Handicapping is what the government does “so that no one feels like something the cat drug in.” Even though Harrison has thick wavy glasses that give him whanging headaches, headphones that sent sharp sounds through his brain to scatter his intelligence, three hundred pounds of scrap metal to limit his immense strength, and several cosmetic limitations to dampen his gorgeous face, he is not at all slowed down by them, and rips them off like “tissue paper.” The people’s response to him, according to the text; “Ballerinas, technicians, musicians, and announcers cowered on their knees before him.” This shows that, to the sight, Harrison is tough and mean. …show more content…

He refers to himself as “The Emperor,” and he says things like “Cower before me!” To implement his dominance over the people in the studio, and the audience. This is significant because it not only shows that Harrison is tough and strong, but it shows that he knows it, and wants to show
