They all say that I am the bad guy and the evil witch, but they weren’t there, were they? They didn’t see what those kids were like, did they? I am Raisin Sweet Tooth but as I am told, you all know me as the witch from Hansel and Gretel. Those menacing kids were ruining my house and had completely disgusting attitude. You are all saying that I wanted to kill them but I would never do that. Like yuck, who would want to eat a few skinny, munching kids. You can say what you want but they just ate my house. They just came into the woods and starting eating. I don’t think you should be interviewing me; you should interview their parents. If they were so hungry that they wanted to eat my house, then obviously their parents are starving them. I even have the bite marks in my house from those disgusting humans. So talk to me and leave me in jail for as long as you want but I have done nothing, nothing at all! A little bird told me that you guys want to frame me for misleading the children, hey? If I had misled them, why would they still be alive and …show more content…
He was giving me a lecture on why he and his sister should stay at my house until they get found, which quite frankly he seemed to think would be never. I didn’t want to harm the kid, so I just said okay. I was going to make him pay rent but I decided not to. Then he came at me with a chicken bone. Like what? A chicken bone? Anyway, I caught him before he could hit me, but he was close. I had to punish him. Obviously he wanted to kill me and take my house. So I put him in a cage, it is as simple as that. He wasn’t harmed so I don’t see the problem with what I have done. If I hadn’t of locked him up, he would have harmed Gretel or even me. He is a savage kid; he should be questioned. I fed him and gave him water while he was in the cage so you can’t charge me for starving him at least. Now don’t ask too many questions I will get
In the eighth chapter “Hanseldee and Greteldum” of Thomas C. Foster’s How to Read Literature Like a Professor, it is explained how writers incorporate literature targeted to kids due to the fact that they are widely known and recognized. Foster describes it as kiddie lit, and explains that the story “Hansel and Gretel” has more drawing power than any other. Foster’s observation proves to be true; he points out two examples that take from the story of the two lost children, but that neither work explicitly states that it is based upon Hansel and Gretel themselves. This is additionally apparent in the 1984 supernatural horror film Children of the Corn, which is an adaptation from Stephen King’s short story “Children of the Corn.” Burt and Vicky, a couple, are passing through Nebraska while
In Chapter 2 of Children’s Books in Children’s Hands: A Brief Introduction to their Literature, the authors talk about the 12 main elements of a literary work: genre, plot, setting, characterization, theme, point of view, intersexuality, tone, mood, style, voice, and the stance of the implied reader (Temple, Martinez, and Yokota 24). All of these literary elements capture the reader’s imagination and creates a successful piece of literature. However, the authors stress the importance of genre in Chapter 2, so I will briefly go over the different types of genres there are in literature and how it affects the readers greatly.
Evil. It’s a concept that has baffled philosophers, religious figures, and the common man alike for thousands of years. In this millennium, people may exemplify evil as terrorism, genocide, or, perhaps, placing an empty milk carton back in the refrigerator. However, many remain conflicted about the exact definition of evil, as the dispute over the character Grendel, from the John Gardner novel, makes evident. To conclude that Grendel is not evil, readers must first operate under the assumption that the beast is unequivocally and thoroughly evil. Having done so, readers will notice the fallacies within this thought process. By asserting that Grendel is evil, readers blatantly disregard the ambiguity with which humanity defines its actions, as
Imagine just two young kids maturing within a matter of years. Imagine that same two kids, experiencing or understanding things that they aren’t meant to at a young age. Jem and Scout were just like that. They have experienced many things that they shouldn’t have at their age. Scout on the other hand, seems to be the one maturing the most. Throughout this whole essay, you will learn about Jem and Scout’s attributes, personality, and how alike or different they are from each other.
Part of growing up is the situation you are put into, but even with a similar childhood characters tend to vary. This is prevalent in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, in which the small town of Maycomb Alabama is home to the adolescents Scout and Jem. They are in the process of becoming two morally candid people. They are exposed to real world features like bias and social class. They learn and develop throughout the book and many events shift how they think, for example the trial of Tom Robinson. Brother and sister, Jem and Scout are very alike but at the same time particularly divergent.
I fear that this will be the last time you will ever hear from me. In fact, by the time you get this, I will probably be dead. You see, I live in Topsfield , but in the nearby town of Salem, the Salem Witchcraft Trials are going on. The Salem Witchcraft Trials are a series of trials of accused witches. Some people have already been hanged and I have recently been accused of witchcraft. You see, on March 21st, 1692, I was accused of putting young girls under spells by Ann Putnam Sr. and Abigail Williams. I was also accused by many other young girls, and even some older, married, seemingly sensible women. I believe that Ann accused me of this ridiculous crime because of the land dispute in our town. For over fifty years, the Nurse's and the Putnam's have been fighting over one piece of land. My father and Ann's father started this feud in 1639 and this is Ann's way of ending it. Also, us Nurse's are resented because we keep mostly to ourselves. Throughout the whole witchcraft accusations, our family has been staying away from the "bewitched" girls. The townspeople thought this was rude and that it proved my guilt. As you know, my dear mother was accused of witchcraft many a year ago, and two of my sister's have been accused before as well. The people in this town seem to have the notion that this craft is passed down through generations. In addition to this, the Putnam's head the Pro-Parris committee- they think that our minister should stay.
Theodor Seuss Geisel, Born March 2, 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts (“Up Close” 1), better known as Dr. Seuss, the man responsible for the fun and creative childhood stories most people read as a child. “Countless Americans can recall his books as their first steps into the land of letters and wordplay” (Barack 1). Because of this, Geisel has become an American icon because of his Impact in most of the general public’s childhood; his stories helped children better pronounce words, and knowledge them as well as giving them a fun and creative story to enjoy.
Thomas Hobbes is a 17th century English philosopher who argued in Leviathan that the natural condition of mankind would result in a war of all against all if humans were not subject to state power. He concludes this by saying that if there were no government, no civilization, no laws and no common power to prevent human nature; human beings would result to the destruction of each other. In this paper I will show how Thomas Hobbes is right in holding that if we were not subject to state power; we would be plunged into a war of all against all. I will show this by using different scenarios in anarchistic community.
Ebenezer Scrooge had been a rude, greedy, and angry person, but when he was visited by three spirits of Christmas that changed. He was visited by the Ghost of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. Along his journey it became clear that anyone and everyone can make a change for the better.
Thomas Hobbes was born in Westport now part of Malmesbury in Wiltshire on April 5, 1588. He was born prematurely at the time when England was filled with rumors of the Spanish Armada. He would compare himself to fear so he would characterize himself with peace. He was named after his father whose name was also Thomas Hobbes. When Thomas Hobbes was very young his father caused a scandal by engaging in a brawl at the door of his church and as a result was forced to flee. Thomas, his brother, and his sister were raised up by the elder brother Francis Hobbes which was known to be a prosperous glover and alderman. Hobbes was well educated by his uncles at churches and private schools. When he was fifteen he went to Magdalen Hall in Oxford but he took little interest in the logic and scholastic philosophy, which formed the bulk of the curriculum.
Set in Poland during the German occupation, “The True Story of Hansel and Gretel” is told as a fairy tale, utilizing many of the elements that are common to fairy tales.
It all started last year during summer break. I was with a couple of friends when he came along. He was short, round and had a learning disability. We thought that it'd be fun to pick on him for a while. We took turns shoving him around. I guess I shoved him too hard and he rolled down the hill we were on. When we found him he was barely breathing. We tried to help him because we thought that it'd be the right thing to do but then we realized that this was all our fault. We couldn't let him go so we carried him into the forest for the animals to finish him off. Days later, we returned to the forest only to find his body with teeth marks all over, he even lost his leg to a pack of coyotes. The worst part of it was that in the midst of all this, he was still alive slowly enduring this torture. We took our turns saying our apologies but we knew that it would never be enough.
Fairy tales have been a big part of learning and childhood for many of us. They may seem childish to us, but they are full of life lessons and intelligent turnings. Components of fairy tales may even include violence, but always with the aim to provide a moral to the story. Hansel and Gretel is in itself a very interesting story to analyze. It demonstrates the way that children should not stray too far from their benchmarks and rely on appearances. In 2013, a film adaptation was produced. This film is produced for an older public and has picked up the story to turn it into a more mature and violent version. Hansel and Gretel is a German fairy tale written by the Grimm Brothers which has undergone several changes over the years and across the cultures which it touched, but for the purposes of this essay, I will stick to the original story. In the development of this essay, I will analyze the components of this tale by the Brothers Grimm based on the factors listed in the course syllabus (violence, interpersonal relationships, the function of magic and the ending), and I will then do a summary and comparison between the story and the film which was released in theaters recently.
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas Opinion Essay “Those who kept silent yesterday will remain silent tomorrow” -Elie Wiesel. The Holocaust is a very common topic to read and to be taught about, especially in the form of fictional books. It is usually taught to make people remember what really happened in the past so that history doesn’t repeat itself.
Growing up is a concept feared by many people, especially children. The future is scare because no one knows what will happen. Children are the most afraid of growing up because they are uncertain if they will make the right choices. The decisions one makes in life effects their future. This leads to children having mixed emotions about whether or not they want to become an adult. In the novel, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll uses symbols to show the themes of growing up and uncertainty of the future.
