I have been volunteering for a non-profit organization Hands On Orlando for three years. For two years I have been a project leader for Hands on Orlando. I lead every month at least once, at projects with organizations such as the Pet alliance of greater Orlando and Howard Phillips Center for Children and Families. I Coordinate projects with agency representative, Supervise and assist volunteers on projects, Tend to any issues that may occur during the project, and Report volunteer attendance and feedback about the project to Hands On Orlando. Not only this, but I am an also an officer of an organization called Phi beta Lambda, this organization does numerous fundraisers for charity such as American Cancer society and the Special Olympics.
Many people think that Orlando is only famous for Disney World. In fact, this second largest city in Florida is fast becoming a paradise for people who want to retire. Here are some more reasons as to why Orlando is a great city to live in:
What comes to mind when you hear the word adventure!!? Well there is a place in Florida that is guaranteed to bring out your inner kid every time you visit. This place is known as universal Orlando Florida. This is a place where you can go on vacation and have fun like never before as you did when you were a kid. On my visit to Orlando I stated at a four-star resort located inside the theme park known as Cabana Bay Beach Resort, also went to universal studios and islands of adventure were I felt like I was a kid again.
I am currently taking on the leadership role as heading a clothing drive at my school, Lincoln Prep. All the donations from the clothing drive will go to the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization. What inspired me do this project was seeing so many people not being able to have the adequate clothing for the seasons. I wanted to be able to provide them with coats, jeans, shirts, jackets, etc. Through a series of promoting the event, students have brought in nearly 30 pieces of clothing.
In the past, I have volunteered for our bands fundraiser every Christmas, which we host at our high school. It is a unique moment in time, to see the joy of children's faces as they walk into the school that morning for Breakfast with Santa. Being able to put on a performance for those children that morning brings joy to my heart and keeps me coming back each year. Another event is the Special Olympics held in Houghton Lake. Students from our school every year go and help setup and run the Special Olympics. Helping out and getting to talk to participants is an honor and has created new relationships with people. I want to be able to give even more back to my wonderful community through the National Honor Society by volunteering and helping as much as I can. Meeting new people, and helping them in ways that can change their life can have a permanent effect on one's self, and NHS opens that
...e school, such as; Pelotonia, Light the Night for leukemia and lymphoma, Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities, etc… For many of these organizations I have volunteered more than once. Volunteering at Light the Night has a story. For my 16th Birthday party, I wanted to have my friends and I volunteer in the day while having fun at night. So I had 7 boys and girls, along with me, volunteer for Light the Night, organized by me. The party was a huge success and a lot of fun. I look forward to organizing more volunteer opportunities for my friends and I.
Volunteering can be gratifying and everyone should experience giving time to others without expecting anything in return. I have some history with The Excel Center in Kokomo, I am a recent graduate from there and have spent time tutoring when I can, to help other students succeed. After leaving there, I considered a future career within the walls of the school, I have even been told on numerous occasions that I am more than welcomed back after I finish my degree. Once I knew I had to volunteer in a human service field, I knew I wanted to give The Excel Center a shot right away, knowing this was a guaranteed place to be challenged and given an honest opinion of my work.
For the first cultural event, I decided to visit the Orlando Museum of Art. Personally, I had never been to an art museum until now so I wasn’t sure what the art would like. I never had an interest to go to an art museum or an interest for art in general because it is very uninteresting in my opinion. I felt like I didn’t belong in the art world. I felt like art was meant for intelligent individuals who understood complex art and the intentions behind a piece of art. Even if I tried to understand art, I was always very critical of it because I never understood what makes art “art” and why it is so important to others. By touring the Orlando Museum of Art, I was hoping to gain a deeper appreciation and understanding for art.
Throughout my life I have contributed too many extracurricular activities such as clubs, sports teams, and volunteer groups. However my involvement in my Latinos in Action volunteer group has taught me a plethora of valuable lessons that will forever be engraved in my memory. Latinos in Action is an organization that takes minority groups in local Jr High and High Schools and guides them in going and tutoring local school children that may need extra help. We also contribute a vast of our time doing service projects such as helping at local soup kitchens, Goodwill Stores, organizing food drives, gathering gifts for the less fortunate and helping in the general community. I have participated in the organization for three years now and every
I have also volunteer at Walnut Park Middle School for three years, and I tutor students who needs my help in the subject they are struggling on. I’m also in an organization/volunteer work which is call Community for Better Environment and we sue big factories/companies that harm our communities and we stop big project like the expansion of the 710 freeway which the governing border wanted to expand our freeway into eight lanes. Expanding the freeway right next to our city will increase air pollution, asthma, breathing problems and heart

I researched a number of nonprofit charities in my area and found one with which I felt connected to the vision and mission of the organization. Although it was more than an hour away, I settled on a food bank that had a wide range of initiatives which were making a significant impact on the local community. Having selected my nonprofit, I was ready to get started. After going to the organizations website, I found that I had to schedule my time online. Unfortunately, all of the time slots for the days of the week that I could volunteer were all taken. I had invested my time in finding the right nonprofit for whom I would like to provide service hours and yet the opportunities to serve were few and far between. After a bit more research, I was able to volunteer for the Home and School Association for Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic School, as well as donated time with The Lutheran Church – Missouri
When I found out that I had to do seven hours of volunteer work I immediately knew that I wanted it to involve children. I attended the volunteer fair that was held earlier in the semester and signed up for programs such as Louie’s Kids and Wings for Kids. Unfortunately I could not volunteer for either of these programs because they were not in walking distance of the college and I did not have transportation. A couple weeks after that I saw a flyer advertising for “Reading Partners.” I attended an informational event that they held and signed up to volunteer at Memminger Elementary, which is about two blocks from the college.
I have been involved in the American Cancer Society for five years. My team, Team Hoot has raised funds for cancer as well as participating in Relay for Life each year. This year, I will be on the board committee at Relay; giving back to the survivors. This organization is one that I always promote and give back to. Also being involved in Relay for Life this year, National Honors Society is a club that helps the community. Being on the executive board, I correlate new service projects as well as corresponding with the Lee County National Honor Society chapter. Also, I am forming a new club at North Fort Myers High, Red Cross Club. Being president, Red Cross helps donates funds back to the American Red Cross. This year we are planning to donate materials for our troops as well as materials for individuals in disaster situations. Giving back to the community is very important to me. Being passionate about making a difference is a drive that I always
I am also proud that I am active in volunteering. I was the Vice-president of Red Cross Society at school. I participated and organized a lot of events, such as the annual Charity Bazaar and presentations by guest speakers from the city’s Red Cross Society. The thing I 'm proudest of is that the annual Charity Bazaar events were extremely successful and the money we raised was used to help the poor regions of China. As the VP of the RCS, my abilities of organization, creation and communication were greatly improved, my leadership skill was also trained very well. I believe that these abilities would be an important asset in the business
When given the opportunity to go on a vacation, there are two places that come to mind. I would like to go to Orlando, Florida or Washington D.C. Deciding which vacation I want to go on is harder than it seems. I would greatly enjoy a trip to both Orlando and Washington D.C., but it is not always that simple, you also have to factor in the costs of the hotel, food, excursions, etc. A trip to Orlando would be exhilarating because of the many theme parks located around the city.
