You are smelling the salty water around you and you suddenly feel something pass your leg. It`s a bull shark waiting to devour you. These species and the hammerhead are the two species of shark that you would not want to be noticed by.Both species are extremely dangerous and deadly.Bull and hammerhead sharks have many similarities and differences. The differences between these two species concerning apperance, diet, size and other important factors of the species` lives are important to know in case of close encounter and need of survival. It is important to know what they look like so it is easier to identify them and to know their special abilities so they will be easier to evade.Hammerhead sharks and bull sharks are very aggressive towards their prey and take over most oceans. These species are very important because if you want to study them for research, then you should know their normal personality traits for easier behavioral comparisons.
The appearance and design of hammerhead and bull sharks are very different. When you are looking at a picture of a hammerhead shark, the first thing that always grab your attention is the shark`s head. Some people may be wondering why the hammerhead shark has an unusual shaped head.’’The strange-looking head of the hammerhead shark (family Sphyrnidae) gives them increased maneuverability for catching agile prey such as squid and may also improve their sensory capabilities(‘’Sharks,Rays & Chimaeras’’ 64).According to the quote, the hammerhead shark`s head is shaped to give it increased agility in order to easily capture prey.On the other hand, most people don't know that the bull shark`s name originated from its appearance and fighting tendencies.’’Bull sharks get their name from their short, blunt sn...

...arks-world).This means that the bull shark can process freshwater and saltwater by adjusting the amount of sodium and urea it needs. This is important because this feature makes this species very special and separable from other sharks. On the other hand, hammerheads have regular shark anatomy, except for their head and mouth.’’The hammerhead`s mouth is smaller than most other large sharks and can`t open as wide’’(“Hammerhead Shark” 2).This means that everything except for the shark`s head and mouth is regular.
Bull sharks and hammerhead shark have many similarities and differences. These similarities and differences are important to know if you ever do encounter a bull or hammerhead shark. You will be able to know how to deal with them. This is a big thing to consider as shark attacks increase in the near future.
...s. According to studies and statistics done, you are more likely to be struck by lightning than killed by a shark. They are often misinterpreted as scary and violent creatures, however this is merely due to media. Shark based films such as Jaw show that these sharks are harmful when they really aren't. Tapes/recordings of sharks slaughtering humans are published so often because of its actual unusualness.
Mojetta wrote about prehistoric sharks, and the history of these creatures. According to Angelo Mojetta, author of Sharks, Cladoselache genus, one of the first prehistoric sharks, was buried in sediment that kept it preserved. Unlike other sharks, Cladoselache genus had a circle of tiny plates around it’s eyes for protection against it’s victim’s attempts to fight back. These sharks lived over 400 million years ago. Sharks of the past could mostly be identified by their teeth, because shark’s bodies are made of cartilage. Another shark that was focused on was called, Stethacanthus. This shark had a very unique look. Stethacanthus had a brush like decoration on the top of it’s head, and an extra fin like part that had the same bristle like decorations on it. These characteristics were thought to be used as suction cups, to hitch rides from larger fish. One of the most famous sharks that looks like an over...
But occasionally the younger sharks are preyed on by bigger sharks that do not necessarily have to be Bull sharks they can be become prey to any larger species of shark and occasionally a crocodile. However there are parasites like Pandarus sinuatus, and Periscopus dentatus that use the surface of the shark’s skin and use it to survive (Curtis). Though that does not in anyway decrease or increase the economic uses for the bull shark, its effects on the environment, or level of danger to humans. In certain places around the world the amount of bull sharks is decreasing slightly, because sharks can be harvested to make fish food, for their meat, for oils, and their fins for shark fin soup, or in asia their skin can be used to make “good leather” (“Bullshark”; Curtis). Even though their numbers are thought to be decreasing according to the International Shark Attack Files, otherwise known as the ISAF, has reported that there have been at least 70 reported unprovoked attacks on humans of which 17 were fatal, but that is only the known number of the reported attacks by bull sharks there most likely have been many more attacks that went unreported (“Bullshark”; Curtis). They are known for being one of “the most dangerous sharks in the world” because they along side the tiger shark, and great white they are the most common sharks to attack a human
The Carcharhinus leucas commonly called the "bull shark" is a very unique shark. The bull shark can live in both salt water and fresh water but is commonly found along the Mississippi River and around Nicaragua. The bull sharks has a very blunt rounded nose giving it a bullish type of appearance thus giving it the name bull shark. The sharks are a dark black to a light grey with a white underbelly. Bull sharks can grow to be about 350 cm long and weigh around 230 kilograms. Bull sharks also tend to have smaller eyes compared to many other sharks which indicates that the bull sharks have limited vision. The bull sharks have triangular teeth like the great white shark (one of the bull sharks cousins). The bulls teeth are heavily serrated and are about 1.5 inches long which makes it easy to tear apart the flesh of their prey.
This image is what a majority of people believe to be the shark. They believe it to be the bloodthirsty sea monster that appears in countless works of literature and films, but science says otherwise. The classic picture painted by the minds of sailors returning from years at sea come from imagination and sharks’ violent methods of hunting and mating. Sharks fear humans as much as humans fear sharks, and most sharks, particularly the “man-eating” great whites, only bite humans because they mistake surfers for seals. In earlier times, the ocean was a source of mystery and adventur...
In the movie “Jaws”, which is a 20th century film, the preying shark terrorizes the beaches of New England. After he is finally trapped, he is killed- but not in the same fashion as Grendel was. The shark was shot in the mouth and then blew up to do a CO2 tank he had swallowed. The way in which each antagonist was killed was in two very different ways: with and without weaponry, respectively.
On average they weigh 4,000-7,000 pounds and grow approximately 16-20 feet long ( Great white sharks 1). < commentary needed>Great Whites are the apex predator of the ocean containing 300 serrated teeth and highly-developed senses to hunt prey. Sharks have a great senses of smell, the Great White can smell a drop of blood thousand of miles away. They’re hearing is very powerful , being able to hear the vibrations of prey distances of about 800 ft away and find the exact location through ‘ear stone’( Great white 3). A shark 's sense of hearing truly shows their uniqueness as an apex predator. In addition to great hearing they’re known to have great sight by being able to see up to 50ft away and transition into seeing in light and dark. Additionally sharks have a lateral line on their back that reaches from the front to the back tail, allowing
Thesis: Sharks should be conserved because they are an important part of the ocean, attacks are often incidental, and human behavior influences the behavior of sharks.
Most people think that sharks are large, fast-swimmers, and savage predators. This is true of some species and groups should be interested of the appealing aspects of biology found within it: all sharks have an excellent sense of smell; some can detect electrical discharges; some sharks give birth to one of the
The morphology of whale sharks is mostly similar to aquatic fish species, but many specific traits help differentiate them from the rest. Whale sharks are the largest fish in the world and can reach a size of around 20 meters (Martins, C., and C. Knickle). This is often compared to the size of a school bus. The shark has a very large transverse mouth. They have 5 very large gill slits and have a larger first dorsal fin compared to the second one (Whale Shark). They have a distinctive spotted “checkerboard” pattern with stripes (Martins, C., and C. Knickle). It is not exactly known why they have this specific body marking. It is believed that the body markings act as a camouflage. The strange thing about whale sharks is that they have 300 rows of teeth that play no role in feeding (Martins, C., and C. Knickle).
The tiger shark’s head is somewhat wedge-shaped, which makes it easy to turn quickly to one side or the other. Tiger sharks also have a sensory organ called a lateral line, which extends on their flanks down most of the length of their sides. The primary role of this structure is to detect minute vibrations in the water. These adaptations allow the tiger shark to hunt in darkness and detect hidden prey easily. A reflective layer behind the tiger shark's retina called the tapetum lucidum allows light-sensin...
It also has a lateral line which senses movement in the water. Whale sharks amazingly have 350 rows of the teeth which make the total 3000 teeth. Each tooth is 3 mm thick. The mouth of a whale shark is 4 Feet wide (120 cm). A whale has a complex filtering system. Whale sharks have 3 ridges that run on the side of large gill slits. The spiracle is located near the eye. It is used to breathe. Its skin is 10 centimetres thick. The top fin on the tail is slightly larger than the bottom fin. The tail of the whale shark is half mooned shaped. Whale sharks are slower that most sharks. They have to move their whole body to swim rather that tail. Whale sharks grow up to 9 – 12 meters, when they are adults. The skin of the whale shark is yellow or white blotches. They weigh up to 12,500 kg. The heaviest whale shark was known to weigh 34,000 kg. Whale sharks are curious creature and are friendly to
With the looks of a terrifying horror monster movie and a reputation of being one, the ragged tooth shark (raggy) is a firm-favourite in aquaria across the world, due to its ability to survive well in captivity, as well as being a tourist attraction in parts of Australia (Barker et al 2011). While the raggy is supposedly dangerous, it is in fact a docile creature and this essay will explore the reasons why the raggy, and al...
The whale shark is a species with a fascinating ecology, life history, behavior, anatomy and physiology. Background The whale shark’s broad, flat head and large mouth make it very recognizable. Females typically grow to be bigger than the males and weigh anywhere from 47,000lbs to 66,000lbs as adults.
