There are a lot of similarities in two Shakespeare stories HAMLET and KING LEAR. I guess its because of the style in which
Shakes peare wrote. William Shakespeare wrote three kinds of stories: comedy, tragedy and history. Both of these books are tragedies and they are very similar tragedies. In both of these stories there is a feud going on within the family. And in both the feud is between the children and their parents or relatives. Hamlet is looking for the revenge on his uncle for killing Hamlets father and hes upset with his mother marrying the murderer. Here Lears evil daughters try to completely destroy their father. Lear calls his daughters and asks them who loves the most. Regan and Goneril lie just to get Lears land and power. Cordelia honestly answers Lear and for that is given away to France, because Lear has gone out of his mind. After Lear gives out almost all his land he realizes his wrongdoing and tries to restore his power. But now its too late, because his daughters already took away all the land. He sees how evil his daughters really are and they dont love him at all, so he curses them. Now Lear appears to be crazy from his actions, but in reality he exactly knows what is going on. Hamlet saw the ghost of his father and it told Hamlet that his uncle killed him to become the king. This shows that the person will even commit murder to get control of the country, just like we see in KING LEAR.
After the ghost appeared to Hamlet, he started to act like he was crazy. But just like Lear, in reality he wasnt crazy, he was thinking of how to get back at his uncle. The endings of both stories are very similar. Besides the fact that all the main characters in both stories die, its how they die thats interesting. Because Goneril wants to get Edmund, she poisons her sister Regan. Hamlets uncle wants to poison
Hamlet, but by mistake he poisoned his wife, Hamlets mother. Hamlet by mistake kills his uncle servant Polonius.
Because of the death of her father Ophelia (Polonius daughter) goes insane and later kills herself. Because
Gonerils plan didnt work, she kills herself. At the end there is a duel between Edgar and Edmund, where Edgar kills his bastard brother. At the end of HAMLET there is a duel between Hamlet and Polonius son, where Hamlet wins but in
The most prominent character parallel between the two works is that of Prince Hamlet and Sweeney Todd. They have similar motives and plans to reach their
After a series of unfortunate deaths in the main character’s, Liesel, life, everything was taken away in the span of half an hour by an “accidental” bombing. When comparing and contrasting the two novels Hamlet and The Book Thief, there is one literary device used in both novels quite often. Although this literary device appears to be used in both novels, it is used differently in each novel. This literary device is conflict. There are also other literary devices used in both novels. Symbolism is used a lot in The Book Thief and character development is used frequently in Hamlet. There are also similarities between the two novels. The most important one is the theme they share, those who are loved by most make the gravest of mistakes. However, like every novel, each one has its own theme. After all, a novel without a theme would be boring. The theme in Hamlet is revenge only destroys what you are trying to save and protect. In The Book Thief, the theme is words are weapons that need to be used
The corresponding characters shared a number of similarities, but it was the ways in which they were different that determined their fate and that of the kingdom. In Hamlet, the prince is Hamlet. He is deeply grieving his father’s death. He is angry because he believes that everyone has already forgotten how great of a king his father was. Hamlet does not know for sure who is responsible for his father’s death, but he suspects Claudius, who is his uncle and the new king.
The first difference is in the way the play and the movie begins. The play starts out with guards standing guard at the castle with Horatio, Hamlet?s friend. The guards and Horatio are waiting for the ghost of Old Hamlet to arrive so they can find out why he is there. The ghost does arrive twice but does not speak. The scene ends with the guards and Horatio discussing that they should get Hamlet to try to speak to the ghost. Hamlet the movie starts out differently. It starts out with the funeral for King Hamlet with Gertrude standing beside the coffin. Hamlet sprinkles dust over his father?s dead body. The coffin is then covered and Claudius, Old Hamlet?s brother, places his sword over the coffin and Gertrude cries.
The major foil for Hamlet is Laertes, the son of Polonius. The most obvious similarity is that they are both young men. They also come from relatively similar backgrounds, a Danish aristocratic upbringing. They also both have some college education. This leads us to another similarity; [Semicolons vs. colons] they both have the ability to use logical and rational reasoning. However, they do differ on their applications of logical reasoning.
The most obvious similarity is the characters. The main characters are seen in both the play and movie. A lot of the minor characters do not change either. Of course, the dialogue is followed almost exactly. There are lines here and there that are cut out, but for the most part all the lines that are not cut out are the exact same. Also, the plot is the same too. In both the movie and the play, Hamlet seeks revenge on Claudius for killing his father. They play that Hamlet puts on is in both the movie and the play that proves he is trying to seek revenge. Hamlet also does not kill Claudius when he has the chance in both the movie and the play. Another similarity is that Claudius and Laertes conspire together to kill Hamlet. In both the movie and the play, Claudius poisons the drink Hamlet is supposed to drink, and Laertes poisons the sword he uses to injure Hamlet. It is made known in the movie that Claudius and Laertes conspire together when Laertes yells out that the King is to blame. The same lines are also used in the play. Laertes yells out, “Thy mother’s poisoned. I can no more. The King, the King’s to blame”
Hamlet is a well developed character whereas Macbeth seems less complex. Shakespeare takes more time in the beginning of the play to let the audiences get to know Hamlet and connect with him. As a reader, we tend to feel what Hamlet is feeling and sympathize with him. Hamlet balances his grief and affection almost perfectly. In Hamlet’s first soliloquy, he says “O that this too, too sullied flesh would melt, Thaw, and resolve itself into dew (Act 1, scene 2).” Hamlet says this right after an unpleasant scene with Claudius and Gertrude who ask him to stay in Denmark to continue his studies. Hamlet thinks of suicide as desirable because of the pain of living, but know...
..., yet both of them are almost the same. Hamlet meets his end with revenge, and Oedipus meets his downfall with his curiosity. One thing absolutely common between them they are tragic heroes. They differ and relate, but one thing is certain, and that is they contain all five characteristics that define them. Tragically in the end, both men are fated to suffer for their reaming lives, which will end with their own dramatic deaths. Oedipus and Hamlet perhaps they are not completely different.
Tragedies in the Greek theater when compared to tragedies in the Renaissance theater varied in similarities and differences. Greek theater encouraged the use of religious figures while Renaissance theater was supposed to be strictly pagan in its ideologies. Theater was most dominantly used to depict the social and religious constraints of the time period. For example, Shakespeare’s Hamlet and Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex are both portrayals of deceit, murder, and revenge all of which lead to the demise of its leading characters. Hamlet is depicted as a young man who is seeking revenge for his fathers death. Oedipus is a king who means to free the people of Thebes from a disease that has been plaguing them. They share similarities in that each of their love interest are conduits of their pain and anguish, further pushing the protagonists over the precipice. The voice of reason that they share is Creon in Oedipus Rex and Horatio in Hamlet. Their tragic flaw is that they are both ultimately and utterly doomed and no amount of guidance will steer them away from what has been predestined by fate. They are ultimately doomed to be their own Achilles heel.
One of Shakespeare’s great pieces of work, Hamlet, has been divided to alternate versions Quarto 1and Quarto 2. Focusing on Act I Scene iii, apparently the differences in these two versions are mainly on the way the characters are formed and the language that is used. Quarto 1 is a much more compact version that has weakly defined characters and uninformed language. As for Quarto 2 this lack of complexity is not so. This version has a higher quality of character depth and a language that is more comprehensible to allow more meaning to the play. Nonetheless the mutuality between these two versions main idea are clearly the significant mutilations to these scene are factors that make the play have a different meaning. The Quarto that would be most appealing to actors and the one that would be more fulfilling to the reader would be the second one because of it richness in characters and language.
Shakespeare’s Hamlet revolves around the title character’s undeniable obligation to immediately avenge his father’s death by killing Claudius. Yet much time elapses before Hamlet finally does slay his evil uncle, leading to a fundamental question: what causes the hero to delay before eventually managing to salvage some retribution? The answer is that Hamlet’s reoccuring state of impractical contemplation renders him incapable of any decisive action that could have brought quick revenge.
William Shakespeare's Hamlet Perhaps the greatest uncertainty in William Shakespeare's Hamlet is the character of Queen Gertrude. Undoubtedly a major player with regard to number of lines and contribution to the action of the play. her personality is nonetheless basically undeveloped. It is also notable that Gertrude is perhaps the only character besides Hamlet. with enough power over all of the characters to stop the play's tragic.
For one thing they both are grieving over a loved one and it is this grief that propels them onto their path of challenging their uncles in their respective plays. Antigone just lost both her brothers, but she did not get closure with Polynieces and so she is still grieving over him, and that is part of the reason she defies her uncle, King Kreon, by burying him. Hamlet just lost his father and is still grieving when his mom moves on and marries King Claudius, so when Hamlet saw the ghost his still grieving heart pushed himself to challenge his uncle as well. Another way they are similar is that they have a one tract mind and they do not worry about the consequences, especially for their loved ones, of their actions. Hamlet was rude to everyone he cared about, especially Ophelia who killed herself partly because he was nasty to her, just because he was upset at the whole situation. Antigone was mean to her sister because her sister did not feel as strong about the situation as she did, and she also gave no thought as to how her defying her uncle would affect his son, her fiancé, which partly led to his suicide. A third way they are similar is that they both let their spiritual beliefs weigh heavily on their actions. Part of Hamlet’s indecisiveness is due to the fact that he does not know if killing Claudius is justified in God’s eyes. Part of the reason Antigone wants Polynieces buried is due to the fact that
The Shakespearean playwrights Macbeth and Hamlet are both very well-known tragedies. They have many things in common but are different in some ways. Both plays involve greed but the characters are different. There are some characters that have the same qualities such as Hamlet and Malcolm who both killed for revenge. Macbeth and Hamlet are different in character even though they both killed. The tragedies are the same in that many people are killed but the reasons are very different. Macbeths need for power has caused him to lose control while Hamlets need for revenge causes him to lose his own life.
Another point that can be compared and contrasted is the search for a solution in the plots. In Hamlet, Hamlet is searching for the truth to discover if his father was really murdered by his uncle and if this is true he must correct the situation by killing his uncle. Also, in Oedipus Rex this plot is seen in that Oedipus is searching for the truth about the murder of the old king, Laios, and the situation will be resolved by the murder being banished from Thebes. In contrast A Midsummer Night's Dream is more centered around the lovers trying to overcome the forces that separate them and Oberon seeking revenge on Titania.
