The Byronic Side of Hamlet vs. Tony Stark The Byronic hero qualities are completely obvious in Hamlet and also apparent in Tony Stark in the Iron Man movies. Tony Stark is a billionaire inventor who gets kidnapped. When he is kidnapped he builds a high-tech suit of armor. The power suit has a computer system named J.A.R.V.I.S. which tells him the state in which the body of armor is in. J.A.R.V.I.S. also updates him on anything that happens around him or informs him on anything important. He then tries used Iron Man to the advantage of the community around him. Hamlet and Tony Stark have many Byronic hero qualities; bipolar/emotional, “dark” attributes, and finally the ability to self-destruct. …show more content…

Hamlet lets you see his dark side by not letting you see what will happen next with him. “A bloody deed- almost as bad, good mother, as kill a king, and marry his brother” (Wright, 1959). This shows that Hamlet is mad at his mother for killing his father and marrying his uncle. After this, he threatens his mother while in her room which was not really expected when he went to go talk to his mother in the first place.
Tony Stark also has the ability to have a “dark” side to him. In Iron Man 3, he has multiple enemy’s that are trying to attack Stark. This makes Stark want to kill each one of them with his hands (Black). This shows that he has a side that most people should not have in life. He also does not connect well with his friends that he has.
Tony Stark and Hamlet also have the ability to self-destruct. During the third Iron Man Tony Stark instructs J.A.R.V.I.S. to take him to a rural area because he will not have the power to make it home. This then lands him with a ten-year-old boy and a power suit with no power. This shows his self-destructive behavior because he into issues with the Mandarin people leading to not having enough power to make it back. He also had to rely on the young boy to make it back to California and to his girlfriend (Black).

Hamlet gets sent to England because his uncle feels like he will do something to his crown and wants him away until he is sounder. This is self-destruction on Hamlets behalf because if he was not trying to kill his uncle he would not have been sent off to a place away from his family. It destructs his plans to kill his uncle. Hamlet and Tony Stark are pictures of Byronic heroes with their many personalities and their unknowing behavior. They have many traits in common; like their ability to have a “dark” side, the mood swings, and their ability to ruin themselves. This all leads to the Byronic side of their character and who they are. When I think of Hamlet or Tony Stark, I think of a person who is try to be a hero but might not have all the typical attributes that a hero has. This makes them be a “dark” hero or a Byronic
