Two of my all time favorite movies are High School Musical and Hairspray. Both of these musical romantic comedy movies exhibit singing and dancing. Their plot lines are similar due to the fact that they revolve around important auditions as well as high school drama while both including humorous elements. While some differences between the two are evident, the similarities are prominent. I believe that Hairspray is the better of the two because it includes a more serious racial theme and centers around the civil rights movement.
The 2007 Hairspray movie includes a historical element to the issue of racism, in specific the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960’s. The main character in Hairspray, a heavy set Caucasian high school girl, Tracy, advocates

Without a good plot line, movies are hard to follow along with. Both of these fantastic movies revolve around drama as well as singing and dancing with a little bit of a love story. Although both of these movies attract my attention due to the reality aspect, one is slightly better than the other because it gives me a flavor of a time period where I was not yet born. I think Hairspray is more unique in its own way because it gives the audience an idea about life in the 1960’s from high school to an important historic time period. It also always keeps me wanting to watch more. To me this is more interesting than High School Musical because I first hand experience high school in almost the same scenarios.
High School Musical and Hairspray are both extremely good movies. From each movie we receive differences and similarities. Although some may disagree with me, the humor, historical background, the time period, and the plot all show a tendency towards Hairspray. To better understand my reasonings I suggest watching the movies for yourself and seeing what they have to offer. After evaluating each movie a little more in depth Hairspray urges to be the better of the two because of it’s ties to history and the overall
Before we get into the movie specifically, we should first talk about representation and how race is represented in the media in general. Representation is defined as the assigning of meaning through language and in culture. (CITE) Representation isn't reality, but rather a mere construction of reality and the meaning behind it. (CITE) Through representation we are able to shape how people are seen by others. Race is an aspect of people which is often represented in the media in different ways. Race itself is not a category of nature, but rather...
Hairspray, a John Waters’ musical, demonstrates progressive messages about the expansion of race-based civil rights in the 1960s . Although this is typically the lens through which Hairspray is viewed, this is not the only significant societal shift portrayed in the film. The stories of Edna Turnblad and Velma Von Tussle illustrate the progressive shift of women from “old” gender roles such as being excluded from the workplace to “new” gender roles where women begin taking managerial positions.
In Grease one the music was Catchy and relatable, with every verse there was a connection with some part of my life. The song Summer Days is the perfect song for reminiscing over a crush or dream guy. Thinking of long romantic hours spent together. When I think of Summer Nights I think of a romantic summer fling that could have last together. Another one of my favorite song that I can relate too is You’re the One That I Want. That song is like a good girl turned bad anthem; that song gives girls “She’s all that” vibe. Point is the songs that they
The two films “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas” and “Life is Beautiful”. The two movies are based around the holocaust and presents a different side of each story of the holocaust. “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas” provides a more accurate version of the holocaust showing all the pain and suffering people went through. Then “Life is Beautiful” gives a more pleasant and hopeful side to the holocaust providing some comedic relief.
It was a cool, crisp November evening, while five teenagers were hustling and bustling around my house excitedly getting ready for their very first showing of the live version of their all time favorite movie. They knew it would be the best night of their lives. The night of my 15th birthday party, my friends and I all piled into my parents car around 11:00 PM and headed off down the road to the Heights Theater. The movie we are about to see is an all time classic. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the best cult film of all time. The movie has all the three basic elements it should have. It has funny audience participation, wonderful acting, and a great story line.
There are few movies that are as memorable yet as completely different as Legally Blonde and Titanic. Ask almost any female her top ten favorite movies and do not be surprised to find both Legally Blonde and Titanic on the list. The two movies are completely different in nearly every aspect including their characters, genres, and plot. However, they do have one unifying theme and that is class. To determine which of these chick flicks is more complex and which one does a better job at depicting class, we will examine the differences between the three aspects.
I believe Top Gun to be the number one movie of 1986. This movie has one of the highest domestic gross incomes, and it was also nominated for four Oscars. Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis are another big reason as to why the movie should be ranked number one. They did a phenomenal job playing their roles. The very first time that I watched this movie, it instantly became my favorite because it had so many different aspects to it. The action packed scenes keep the viewers guessing as to whether Maverick is going to die, due to his reckless and risky flying. The humor that was in this movie will be hard to forget because it’s so funny. Drama helps keep the tension building, and actually makes the viewer pay attention to the movie. The action, humor, and drama are the leading factors as to why Top Gun is the number one movie of
Some people may prefer the movie or the novel, the boy in the striped pajamas. Although I have assorted feelings about both versions, the two adaptations had their differences. For instance, in the novel Bruno is eight, not nine. Despite the fact, the movie has many added and needed details like during the dinner with the grandfather. About the discussions and real feelings of Jewish people.
A Christmas Carol? Having seen the movie and read the script, I can tell you that there is many similarities and differences between the two. They are very alike in some ways, but also very different in some ways.
Heathers, being the earlier film of the two was the first one that I watched and after watching both films, I noticed that The
Examples such as Sixteen Candles (John Hughes, 1984) focuses around the issues that a teenager may face. For the young girl she faces problems with love, family and birthdays. These are also problems that may come as part of growing up. Part of the teenage culture is learning how to deal with these issues and providing an understanding that issues are not just individual, but the majority of people will go through. A number of films that tackle these issues will be more appealing to a wider audience.
American culture has a variety of stereotypes that “define” our culture. From the stuck up cheerleaders in high school to the working middle class white collared males in an office setting. America perceive different race, ethnicity and even class groups through heavy stereotypes. In the movie Not Another Teen Movie, shows these different stereotypes about high school and teenagers through their groups/class and race. Many teen movies depict the standard high school setting and typically white or suburban high school. These movies tend to go against stereotypes and show a brighter side of high school. For example High School Musical displayed a typically high school love story between to Troy and Gabriella. They were not apart the same “group” in their high school. Troy was a jock and hung out with the popular group of students and Gabriella was a smart and hung out with the more smart and nerdy group of students. In the end true love prevails and bring the two young couple together even though they were from different social groups. In Not Another Teen Movie it shows all the normal stereotypes that are connected with the high school setting such as the jock having a cheerleading as a girlfriend, the horny freshman boys, the different groups with in the high school and the race to be prom queen. This movie is good to show different stereotypes in high schools in America but also it shows how the body and the male gaze is always displayed in this movie also.
After seeing "The Sound of Music", I can truthfully state that I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. This 1965 drama/romance musical movie was thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable.
The subject of African American or black women’s hair is not a topic that the majority of people in the United States give much thought to. It may even be trivial to some. However, black women’s hair, its history, is entangled in the larger history of the United States. The latter has created a context in which black women have struggled to negotiate their blackness, and the idea of beauty as it relates to blackness, in the midst of a dominant white culture. How a black woman chooses to style her hair is all at once a practical, an aesthetic, an emotional, and a political choice, and as such it reveals critical internal negotiations of identity. Increasingly, black women, particularly young black women, have chosen to go ‘natural’. Naturals
The movie that I chose is The Intern. I find the description of the movie interesting, as I wanted to know what difficulties Ben would run into as an older adult who interned for a fast-paced and technology-based company like an online fashion company. Moreover, I think a more recent movie would have a more positive and accurate portrayal of older adults due to increased awareness.
