In my opinion, there is no greater gift to life than a sound, healthy body. My life has been dedicated to actively pursuing a healthy journey with proper nutrition, ample water consumption, sufficient sleep, and numerous hours dedicated to the sport of gymnastics. While I realize a sound healthy body involves more than having your daily vitamins and dancing in the sun, I have become fascinated with how genetics and the body's composition have a tremendous impact on any obstacles or successes. Over the years, I have become more captivated to explore whats inside the body with my own eyes. At 18 months old, I started pulling myself up on the kitchen counter to watch my mom cook. My mom removed the chairs and any other objects that could potentially assist me, but this didn't stop me. After continually pulling myself up onto anything and everything I could get my little hands on, regardless of the height, my parents, along with other adults indicated I had a great deal of strength. In 2017, I finally competed level 7 and I have most of my skills for level 8 for this upcoming season in 2018. Since beginning with Arizona Sunrays Gymnastics, I felt inspired to be involved with the sport on many other levels. I became a certified coach for United States American Gymnastics (USAG) association and have worked many Saturdays training young girls. I received a certification for cardiopulmonary resuscitation or better known as CPR certification and I have taken health and safety courses to improve my knowledge in my sport. I have watched a variety of all different body compositions achieve and struggle with this sport. I feel inspired to discover the scientific reasons behind the building of muscles and bones, and its contribution to preventing diseases such as

After being mesmerized by figure skating at the age of eight, I became a member of the Markham Skating Club. As a competitive figure skater, I must perform various jumps and spins in a choreographed program. I have participated in numerous competitions in Central Ontario and have received multiple medals for my achievements. Yet, my achievement as a figure skater stem from the adversity that I faced throughout my skating journey. This sport has imposed challenges to both my mental and physical strength that have ultimately constructed the qualities of dedication and humility within myself.

Movies usually give people the impression that cheerleaders are just stuck up blondes that rule the school and cheer at football and basketball games. Although there are still stereotypical cheerleaders just like the ones in movies, cheerleaders are not just on the sidelines anymore. There are now competitive teams who only compete and do not cheer for anything. This is called competitive cheerleading. This type of cheerleading is very different from the cheerleading on the sidelines and is much more athletic. Competitive cheerleading is often underrated because cheerleaders make it look easier than it is. Society should consider competitive cheerleading a sport because it fits the definition, requires incredible strength and endurance, and considering it a sport would help prevent injuries.

As a 29-year-old medical school applicant for which I have spent 23 of them in the world of competitive figure skating. For 19 years I was a competitive figure skater, competing at both the local and national level. Figure skating was my way of life, it guided every decision I made, whether I could go hang out with friends, go on family vacations, or what types of activities I could do so that I would not become injured, hampering my skating career. In the middle of my season in 2009 such injury occurred, I was diagnosed with a bulging disc partially caused by a grade one spondylolisthesis between my lumbar and sacral vertebrae. Gymnasts’ bodies have to be young, healthy, petite and muscular, therefore they have to do large amounts of conditioning and eat the proper amounts and type of food. The main factor to gymnasts being vulnerable to distorted eating is because they are at very young ages when they excel in the sport. Gymnastics is structured around young fit bodies, so these athletes are facing a lot of pure pressure and big decisions at young ages. They may start to restrict their diet because, in the sport, it is expected for them to have petite and fit bodies and they are receiving pressure from their coaches and others opinions. A Canadian study of youth gymnasts at an average age of 13.4 years old, reported that 10.5% saw themselves as overweight, 27% were worried about the way they looked and 39% reported dieting behaviors (momsteen.com). When gymnasts restrict their food intake it will not enhance their performance, instead it will harm it because of their weakened bodies condition. They decide to reduce their food intake because of what their body, as a gymnast, is supposed to look like. With the average age of gymnasts being 13.4 years old, they are at the age where it is very easy to feel insecure about their body due to others around them, but it is very unhealthy for high-level gymnasts to not be fueling their body with the proper foods thy need. The Discourse Community that I am a part of is the Lake High School Cheerleading Team. I was on Varsity for all four years of high school for football and basketball seasons. We are not your typical high school cheerleading team however; we stunt, tumble, and compete. We break the status quo of being dumb blondes and we work hard to be the athletes that we are. The crisis of the Lake High School Cheerleading Team is the stereotypes that our high school students and administration makes towards us. This crisis is important because we, as cheerleaders, take offense when people tell us that we are something we are not. We are tired of having these false accusations made towards us, so we want to let our audience
Over the years it has been debated many times whether or not cheerleading is a sport or a club so what is the verdict? Is cheerleading a sport or is cheerleading not a sport? Truthfully, there are two types of cheerleading, sideline cheerleading and competitive cheerleading. There are multiple distinguishing factors of competitive cheer and sideline cheer. The hours of practice, the level of skill, and the end goals of the two types are what set them apart. While there is a lot of heavy debate on the topic it is obvious that competitive cheerleading is a sport and is one of the most difficult sports to do well and sideline cheerleading is not.

Huge amounts of money are used to build venues and make medals, only leading up to the countries who host the Games going into debt afterwards. There are only rare cases in which the countries earn money from hosting the Olympics, but most of the time the debt that they get themselves into take years, or even decades to pay off. You might ask yourself, why do we even host the Olympics, if it has these huge disadvantages? The answer is because we want pride for our countries, no matter how temporary it is. Knowing this, we can safely say, that the Olympic Games do not help us grow as a species.
A global citizen is that who is willing to use its voice and knowledge to make a change. No one would ever be able to make a change in just one day, it is something that takes time and devotion. I’m really interested in diversity and I’m seeking to what is my role is as a world citizen. The fact that I’m searching for an international education is the proof of my desire to establish myself as a global citizen and my interest in the world issues.
