On dates 14 and 15 I spent most of my time at school and at work so most of my interactions during the day were with classmates and coworkers. At night I go the gym and I intact with my gym buddies, we would have small talk for a few minutes but most of the time I am left alone to do my workout. The half of the time I spend at the gym I am actually on Reddit. I browse current issues and interesting threads during my rest between sets. On the 16th I spent the whole day with my girlfriend. Which explain why the social media usage and texts were very low overall. My main form of interactions was in person I like having face to face conversations. Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram also serves as review or highlights of a person day. This enable me to keep up with that person life without being directly involved. So the next time I see the person in real life I can spark up conversations over what they posted. Reddit on the other hand allows me to be caught up on current issues around the world, get some laughs, and see some cute animals. Kinda of like a newspaper but individualized and much more up to date. I can use what I read on Reddit to have informed discussions with my more educated friends. My girlfriend and I text and Snapchat each other a lot because she lives in Langley and I live in Vancouver. It makes it easier for me to know whats going on in her life. We only see each other once a week but being able to communicate thru texts and Snapchat really helps our
This is in contrast to Turkle who talks about how it is ruining our communication skills, Wortham states that technology is doing just the opposite and bettering our connections with others. Wortham, even though her article is a bit shorter than Turkle’s, still is able to get across the idea that without the technology that we have today, she wouldn’t be able to have the relationship she has with her boyfriend. This goes for everyone who is in a long distance relationship, or those who are far away from their families. The use of video chats, texting, and calling improves communication for those who we can’t see on a daily basis. Wortham believes that without these options of technology she would not still be in the relationship with her current boyfriend, or if she was in the relationship still they would not be as close as they are with the use of the video chat dates they have.
What if you could put your whole life on display for everyone to see? In this decade, such things are possible with the help of social media sites. If you want to upload pictures, Instagram is available. If you want to write different statuses, Twitter is a step away. If you want to do both while interacting with people from across the world, Facebook is the right choice.
Like Facebook, Instagram offers an environment where people can upload pictures and videos and other people can comment and like what is posted. Pictures that are uploaded on Instagram can be shared on Facebook. This expands the communication environment of Facebook. Facebook has become very big with video and picture sharing. Users can comment on various videos and pictures uploaded by their peers. Users also have the option to like videos and pictures. Other people can see these interactions being done, which leads to other people seeing the pictures and videos. Many advertisements are also used on Facebook. Since Facebook receives a lot of traffic from people, videos that advertise products can be uploaded to Facebook, so they can get more attention. People are able to attach recent news articles onto their profile that can be shared with their friends and family members. All of these are useful techniques and lead to a larger communication discourse

For this week’s observations assignment, I have chosen to observe my home away from home the gym. Now, to garner a view of the entire gym I select to jump on the stair master which offers the best vantage point of the facility. The location of the gym is on the island of Hawaii centrally located between the different sides of the island. The time of observation is the peak operating hour of 1600. Additionally, the gym setting is natural lighting, upbeat music, and young patrons. Furthermore, the patrons of the gym are a mix of ethnicities; however, the primary ethnicity is Polynesian because of the gym 's location. Moreover, the socioeconomic class of the gym patrons seems to be middle-class citizens who dress well, have the latest technology gadgets, and newest training aids. So now that there is information regarding the atmosphere let’s move onward to the social norms.

A person’s life is reflected on Facebook. Because so much of someone’s life is on Facebook, anyone can have a sense of what is going on in their life. This is beneficial for parents away from their children in college or just away from the nest. A visual image is more attractive than reading a lengthy blog about an individual's day. With Facebook someone can post albums at a time and can share a special event that just recently occurred. Instant messaging has improved the speed that users can communicate with each other. If they see that their friend is online all that needs to be done is a message with the word “Hey.” Facebook allows for users to connect with friends time zones away.
I think Facebook is an great tool to connect with others and share creatively, emotionally, and so on. One can communicate with a long lost friend while listening to their favorite music and reading about the latest gossip within the celebrity world. One may find inspiration through Facebook to teach others or help victims of the latest natural disaster by reading a news article relating to the event. Or one my change their occupation by seeing jobs posted through their Facebook or maybe someone just wants to imitate the newest socialite making headlines from their posts. Either way, one uses Facebook to feel connected with the world around them and interact with people they feel that share this same ideal of digital significance. We are still in the beginning stages of this forever evolving digital culture and I am sure we will witness the next great technological device or new source of new media that will change everything. I feel if things progress in the way they already are we will literally be able to do and see anything and everything within minuets from our mobile devices. We will know and see whatever we want and be connected to whomever we want to socially connect to. I am just waiting for the day when we can actually block people in real life or

With its availability on many mobile devices, Facebook allows users to continuously stay in touch with friends, relatives and other acquaintances wherever they are in the world, as long as there is access to the Internet. Users can upload pictures, update statuses, play games, get news, add people, like and share photos, videos, memes
Mark Zuckerberg founded Facebook in 2004 and its sole purpose is to give people the power to share and connect with the world. With 1.23 billion monthly active members, Facebook has certainly surpassed all other social sites. To put it in perspective that is roughly one-sixth of the entire world’s population. According to his book, Introduction to Digital Literacy Mark D. Bowles (2013) stated that Facebook is “the leading social networking site” where you can update your status, share information like photos, find friends and establish networks (pg. 184).
