With all the problems that occur today with gun violence on the television and political advocates against guns. The question that I always wanted to ask is, “are all the horrible things they say about guns true.” Are guns truly a danger or is it hype? Violence is prominent in society. The politicians claim we solve disputes through talking and negotiations. However, the truth is that most conflicts ultimately end with the pointing of a weapon. I researched why people wanted guns. Most claim it is for hunting or pleasure (the shooting clay pigeon or targets). Although I feel, more people think of it as an effective form of defense. People are extremely fearful of what lies out on the other side of their front door than what can occur in their own home. While growing up, I have never had a gun around my house. My parents were against owning a gun in the home. They told me from a young age that guns were dangerous. One can potential kill someone if one had one. I have never taken a side on the issue of gun control laws. There are many pros and cons about both sides of the argument. Therefore, I chose to point out the positives and negatives for guns. In 2005, I encountered guns for the first time when I married my husband who is a retired military NCO, who avidly collects guns for his collection. With servicing in many conflicts for the past 20 years, my husband was known for being the best gunner on Bradley fighting vehicle in the Army. My husband concurs with the current gun control laws and my perspectives changed about the positives and negatives of what needs to be done with weapons now. The first part of my research took place at the local gun store in Shelton. I walked into the store looking around see all the differe... ... middle of paper ... .... The idea of fear is that people are not educated and do not know enough about them to understand the purpose of having a gun. I was taught all my life that guns were evil and dangerous. The fear behind this made me watch my back and run the other ways when it comes to getting near a gun. Having had the experience of operating and firing a gun, I understand that gun can be useful, but only with proper education and handling. It is a tool just like any other tool such a knife it can be misused. Nevertheless, we should trust the sane law-abiding citizens to make up their own mind as to the dangers and the practicality of owning a gun, not our politicians Fear can be defeated by understand what something is beyond the hype is. If one are fearful of firearms, I challenge you to understand them by going to a range trying one out and maybe you might change your mind.
Guns can only cause more violence and dead. Having a guns in the house is more likely cause accident dead to family member. Most victims die are young people and children, today young people are reckless they do everything even use guns for toy. Everyday TV and Newspaper are talk about people injury or even die from guns accident. Not only guns violence to human society, wild animal are getting hunt to extinct by hunter. People are using guns for wrong reasons, that why guns should be ban and limit to what people can
I am writing on behalf of my thoughts and myself about gun control laws. My position on this topic is neutral leaning towards the "No Gun" law. The idea of a federal law to ban these guns is a good idea, but it could be better. I believe strongly that guns should be banned from our country in some kind of way, but there are exceptions like for law enforcement and hunters. This law could lower the murder and death rates drastically. The US would be a whole different and safer country to live in. No one should live in a society where they are afraid of being killed by a gun, we should try harder to make this society in the US a better place. I have many reasons to back my views on this topic, and here are some main reasons that you should really think about.
A growing number of publicized tragedies caused by gun violence have caused a great stir in the American community. Recently, President Barack Obama has made proposals to tighten the regulation of and the restrictions on the possession of weapons in America to lessen these tragedies. Should the legislative branch decide in favor of his proposals, all American citizens who do or wish to own the type of weapons in question or who use current loopholes in existing policy would be directly affected. His proposals, which are to “require background checks for all gun sales, strengthen the background check system for gun sales, pass a new, stronger ban on assault weapons, limit ammunition magazines to 10 rounds, finish the job of getting armor-piercing bullets off the streets, give law enforcement additional tools to prevent and prosecute gun crime, end the freeze on gun violence research, make our schools safer with new resource officers and counselors, better emergency response plans, and more nurturing school climates, [and] ensure quality coverage of mental health treatment, particularly for young people,” have been cause for a large amount of recent debate (whitehouse.gov).
America probably has the highest rate of gun ownership in the world. In Canada, the percentage of Canadian households with a rifle is approximately equal to the level in United States. According to the statistics of gun murder rates around the world from ‘Bowling for columbine’, America has 11,127 gun accidents while Canada merely has 165. Is the number of gun ownerships a main factor behind a violent society? Indeed weapon does not commit crimes, the perpetrator does.
“I don’t believe people should be able to own guns. (Obama)” This said prior to Obama’s presidency, in the 1990’s, is still a topic that is constantly questioned today. Many American’s feel the need to seek ownership of weapons as a source of protection; While others believe that private ownership of guns will do nothing more but heighten the rate of violence due to people taking matters into his or her own hands. Philosophy professor Jeff McMahan agrees with Obama’s statement in regard to the ownership of guns. In his New York Times editorial titled “When Gun ‘Control’ Is Not Enough,” McMahan provides evidence to support his theory of the dangers that quickly follow when allowing the community to own guns legally. McMahan, throughout the text, shows responsible reasoning and allows the reader the opportunity to obtain full understanding and justifies his beliefs properly.
Those who argue for gun control usually state guns are a part of most violent crimes. However, this is not always true. While it is true that limiting gun ownership with laws could prevent individuals from possessing guns, it does not prevent people from illegally having or using guns. Those who carry guns legally are not the problem. According to Mark Gius, the author of “Gun Ownership and the Gun Control Index”, “…only about 25% of total violent crime is committed by a person using a gun, no inferences...
In America guns have been a part of the country’s society since it’s birth. Throughout history the citizens of the US have used firearms to protect the nation, protect their families, hunt for food and engage in sporting activities. The issue of Guns and gun control is complex. Weighing the rights and liberties of the individual against the welfare and safety of the public has always been a precarious balancing act. In the United States, gun control is one of these tumultuous issues that has both sides firmly entrenched in their positions. Those parties in favor of gun ownership and the freedom to use and keep arms, rely on the fact that the provision for such rights is enshrined in their constitution. In this climate of growing violence, rife with turmoil and crime, gun advocates feel more than ever that their position is justified. As citizens of the “Land of the Free” possessing a gun is a fundamental right, and may even be a necessity... Anti- gun lobbyists point to the same growing violence and gun related crimes in an effort to call on the government to take action. By enacting more laws and stricter control, these people not in favor of guns feel society would be better safer.
Today in the United States many people argue over the fact of guns being legal or illegal. There are people using guns for personal safety and there are others who use them for crimes, as well as for other situations. Firearm deaths in the United States have slowly been decreasing from year to year with all these bills getting passed to promote a safer country than ever before. Guns are the main weapon for youth suicide, school shootings, and for committing murder. In 2010 there were 2,711 infants, child, and teenage firearm deaths. As in school shootings and in committing murder, studies show shooters often had multiple, non-automatic guns, shootings were planned, most youth tell before shooting, shooters have a history of being bullied or threatened, shooters have mental issues, and shooters have done suicidal gestures before (Gun Control with School Shootings). Although there are people who use guns for murdering, there are also those who oppose guns being used without the proper requirements. 85% of all respondents to the survey supporting requiring states to report people to national background-checks systems who are prohibited from owning gu...
Like every other good ol' boy, I am concerned about being the victim of a random shooting, but at the same time, I want to be able to take down a nice10-point buck during hunting season. Guns effect every one of us every day. They fill us with fear or they make us feel protected. My point is this: guns are a problem, but using gun control to abolish them isn't necessarily the best solution. In gun control I mean laws that keep firearms off the street by preventing their purchase. I agree that some form of gun control is needed, butwhat we really need to concentrate on is gun licensing and more gun safety. I believe in my constitutional right to keep and bear arms, and I don't feel that legislators should be allowed to take away that right. Gun control can be a good thing, but if it leads to gun prohibition I will fight it until the day I die.
Guns and crime seem to fit together like peanut butter and jelly, but is that really the case? There are two ways to look at gun control, but one realization that needs to be made and that’s that guns are powerful. Guns can either be used for defending and protecting people or they can be used to harm and kill people. People have different views on whether guns are being used for protection or being used to harm and kill others. The majority of people that think guns are being used for safety and defense oppose gun control laws. On the other hand the majority of people who think guns are being used to heartlessly slaughtered people are for stricter gun control laws. People opposed to gun control thinking it will be taking away some of their rights; whereas, those in favor of gun control thinking it will help protect people.
The problem with guns is fairly obvious: they decrease the difficulty of killing or injuring a person. In Jeffrey A. Roth's Firearms and Violence (NIJ Research in Brief, February 1994), he points out the obvious dangers. About 60 percent of all murder victims in the United States in 1989 (about 12,000 people) were killed with firearms. Firearm attacks injured another 70,000 victims, some of whom were left permanently disabled. In 1985, the cost of shootings was an estimated $14 billion nationwide for medical care, long-term disability, and premature death. In robberies and assaults, victims are far more likely to die when the perpetrator is armed with a gun than when he or she has another weapon or is unarmed.
In America guns have been a major topic of controversy and have been at the forefront of many political debates. Our forefathers created the Second Amendment, which allows American citizens the right to bear arms. There are many who support the Second Amendment right to bear arms, but there are also many who oppose it. Those who support the Second Amendment often do so because it is their fundamental right granted to them by the United States Constitution. The Second Amendment allows citizens to have the ability to protect themselves and their property from outside adversaries. In contrast, there is almost not a single day in America where gun related violence is not reported in the news. This leads many to believe that guns are a key contributor to the increase in violent and deadly crimes. This has caused many to push for stricter
There is an American consensus for some form of gun control. “…[F]irearms were involved in two-thirds of all murders in the United States and [t]he United States leads the world's richest nations in gun deaths…murders, suicides, and accidental deaths due to guns - according to a study published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the International Journal of Epidemiology” (Lepore). There might be some far extreme people who think that all guns should be banned but most sane Americans do not think that gun rights should be abolished. Americans regard self-defense as the most compelling reason to have a gun and twenty-two percent of households have handguns in the United States. However many people do think that gun control laws must be enacted and enforced. Pro-gun extremists and the National Rifle Association’s (NRA) must understand that there is a real for many people at the uncontrolled s...

What is the need for gun control? The necessity of gun control is one of the most debatable topics today, and one of the reason for gun control is to get the guns out of the wrong hands. 33 million Americans own firearms for hunting, but hunting is not the sole reason for which many citizens of America purchase firearms. Of all countries, the United States is one of the top countries that is troubled by a large number of criminals who are in possession of guns even without registrations. According to the FBI report for the year 2013 the amount of murders (not counting robberies or any other violent crimes that involved firearms) in that year alone added up to 8,454, and for the year 2014 the amount rose to 9,275. That is an 821 point increase
