Imagine you are a gun maker and you sell someone a gun, not knowing what they are going to do with it, then later you find out that they shot someone. Do you think it’s fair that you have to pay the cost of someone else's actions? Gun makers get blamed for other people’s actions just because it involved a gun. It’s unfair, the gun maker doesn’t know what people are going to do with a gun. So why are they getting blamed? I think gun makers shouldn’t pay the cost of gun violence. Gun maker shouldn’t pay the cost of gun violence for many of reasons. One reason is that they don’t know what people are going to do with the gun. Certainly one of the chief guarantees of freedom under any government, no matter how popular and respected, is the right of the citizen to keep and bear arms. This is not to say that firearms should not be very carefully used and that definite rules of precaution should not be taught and enforced. But the right of the citizen to bear arms is just one more safeguard against a tyranny which now appears remote in America, but which historically has proved to be always possible. -Hubert Humphrey, 1960 My background is probably atypical for a somewhat high-profile supporter of the right to keep and bear arms. I am black and grew up in Manhattan’s East Harlem, far removed from the great American gun culture of rural, white America.
The shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary sparked a great deal of public awareness and led to an unprecedented debate regarding gun violence. According to the U.S. Secret Service, there is no profile for a school shooter. However, since shootings tend to be planned in advance and oftentimes youth tell others of the plan, a threat assessment approach was recommended. After Sandy Hook, millions of TV viewers were tuned into various politically motivated mass media debates. Media bias in favor of the NRA's view of the Second Amendment (as protecting individual gun ownership) was so pervasive that even many gun-control supporters seemed unaware that the federal high courts never found a gun law to have violated the Second Amendment. While it well known that guns do contribute to the many fears of students today, this behavior in America's neighborhoods cannot be ignored. Impact of gun violence has a devastating and long lasting effect on community. As victims and families recover, basic research continues in search of answers. Motivation for shootings is hard to pin down, however gender is the single most obvious variable when it comes to gun violence in America.
Eighty-nine people die from gun violence in the United States every day according to the Brady Campaign , from school children to victims of domestic violence to people going about their daily lives. As we mourn the lives of those killed in incidents of gun violence across the country, we need to take action. We should all do everything in our power to keep tragedies like this from happening again. When it comes to addressing mass shootings, we need new answers
First, and foremost many handguns have claimed the lives of too many people. This is a very serious issue we must tackle globally not just in the United States. The same problem is killing our past, present, and future. Gun violence has claimed the lives of so many Americans that we are the leading country in crimes committed by guns. These guns are claiming the lives of people ranging from babies to adults to even the elderly. Handguns are just causing too many deaths.
Gun violence in America is something that has always been a reoccurring issue, but recently has become the topic of every discussion when America is involved. The passing of gun laws has always been a rough process, because there are so many people and/or things to think about. Many laws and rules and restrictions trying to control the usage of guns, often get changed within 5 years of being a thing. People then began to find loopholes and started making bans, or state laws to specifically have gun laws not affect them. Many different opinions on how it should be classified and are handled in the state of law, is also something that comes up often. Many family members, loved ones, students, teachers, and many more people who have died due
There are two sides to this argument people who use guns and like them and people who don't like guns and have only heard or seen people use them for bad things like robbing, killing,or just trying to threaten somebody.Guns aren't used for just bad things that's the irresponsible gun owners I use the words gun owners very loosely because according to The Washington Times most of those guns are stolen mainly out of vehicles or bought illegally from some dealer in a back alley because when you buy a pistol legally most dealers make you go through a very extensive process before the gun is actually considered yours there is a lot of paperwork you need to get done and when the gun is put together before distributing to the
People blame the gun owners of America for the violence, but have you consider that America has gone through the blame game before like in Witch Craft during the Puritan ages and McCarthyism during the cold war, Gun Owners are to blame, but in the end it won’t matter if you placed the blame or are the ones who are blamed. People are always going to point the finger at anyone who stands out. Just like in The Crucible, there is another false accusation like when Abigail is blaming everyone in Salem for Witchcraft. “I want the light of God, I want the sweet love of Jesus! I danced for the Devil; I saw him; I wrote in his book; I go back to Jesus; I kiss His hand. I saw Sarah Good with the Devil! I saw Goody Osburn with the Devil! I saw Bridget Bishop with the Devil!” (Miller 15). Abigail was blaming everyone in Salem for her mistake of having an affair with John Proctor who is married to Elizabeth, who then is later convicted for witchery. Abagail has figured out how to blame the town for her mistakes and turn the town against each
“No official figure exists but there are thought to be about 300 million guns in the U.S” ("Guns in the US: The statistics behind the violence - BBC News", 2016). That means that there is almost a gun for every single person in the United States. The gun debate is especially large in the 2016 Presidential Election. Candidates like Secretary Hillary Clinton state that gun manufacturers should be held responsible for gun violence. Donald Trump, the Republican candidate supports the right to bear arms, a common republican belief, as he states "This is about self-defense, plain and simple." And Hillary’s opponent Sen. Bernie Sanders has a middle ground solution, giving each individual state the right to create their own gun laws with the exception of instant background checks and a federal ban on assault weapons. Gun violence is a huge issue that needs to be dealt with no matter what side you’re on. The U.S government seems to think it’s appropriate though, to spend more than a trillion dollars on counter terrorism at home, which kills only a fraction of people compared to that of firearm violence. Some even say that there isn’t even a gun issue and that mass shootings happen all over the world. Yes, they do, but they’re not even as close to as common. “Of all the murders in the US in 2012, 60% were by firearm compared with 31% in Canada, 18.2% in Australia, and just 10% in
It is unbelievable how far the guns and other weapons industries have evolved over the years. Weapons started out as sticks and swords, fighting and killing had a purpose. Although there is no sane reason why one person should be allowed to kill another person, at least the death rates were much lower back then, than they are today. There were no ‘accidental’ deaths. There were well-thought out plans of killing people, made by people in their right minds against those who actually ‘deserved’ to die. Today, hearing about gun violence and other forms of public persecution has become the social norm. Despite the unpopular opinion that shooting ample numbers of people as serving justice, it is not what God planned. Some of the gun violence that
Should Toyota be held responsible when a drunk driver causes a car accident? Likewise, should gun manufacturers be held responsible for gun-related deaths? There are many people who believe that gun manufacturers should be held liable. If gun manufacturers aren’t the ones pulling the trigger then why should they be held accountable? There are many laws that have been made and established that make it clear when a manufacturer would be held liable. Therefore, gun manufacturers should not be held responsible for criminal gun-related deaths because they do not have control over people’s personal responsibility and laws are set to prevent such liability.
Guns are something that can be nice to have they are meant for protection but more times than not they fall into bad hands like the gunmen of Columbine or Virginia Tech. Mass shootings and just shootings in general something that should not happen. People loosing their lives is not something that is just black and white, in life there are grey areas. Someone’s life should not be not be cut short because of an accident or someone else’s vain reasons.
Even though there are so many deaths related to guns I believe that it is the people that are killing each other, not the guns. Guns kill people just as much as the pen in your hand makes the mistakes on your paper. Guns do not supply themselves with ammunition. They don’t aim at their target. And they don’t pull their own trigger. People are killing people, guns just make it easier.
