Gun control has been around for many years and it has become a topic that has been talked about more and more often. However, gun control has created some differences on whether it is being used effectively and whether it is a good law or not. Gun control is the second amendment of the constitution and basically what it means is that it is the right to bear arms. The right to bear arms is a concerning topic for many people because now when a mass shooting occurs people immediately blame gun control but how do we know that gun control is the problem? People may think gun control is a good thing but in reality crime and violence are caused by many other things therefore gun control does not reduce violence. Gun control, having a long history, …show more content…
Reliable data based on gun use is a hard thing to come by. Reliable data is hard to come by because it is not really known how often a person points a gun at someone who turns out to be harmless. Also these types of research are questionable because people do not know if the data is reliable. Since reliable data is hard to come by researchers have just avoided studying things related to gun violence. There are so many studies about gun violence and they all seem to prove one thing and that is that gun control does not reduce violence. Gun control is so often spoken about that research has been easy for those studying or researching the topic. Of course, many will probably disagree with the assertion that gun control does not reduce violence. Many people will disagree because they have a belief that gun control will reduce violence because not everyone will have a gun and therefore no one is harmful towards anybody else. In addition to not having a gun less murders will happen and the community will come closer together and there will be no need to kill each other or own a gun. If the government shows how effectively gun laws are then that will want to make everyone want to not even own gun because of how safe they …show more content…
Also gun control has been proven in many ways that it does not reduce violence or crime. Gun control should be important to many people because it can help a country but in some cases it does not always help. Therefore people need to stop blaming gun control for everything and start taking into consideration that gun control is not the only factor in violence and crime. Gun control is important because it gives a citizen the right to be free and own a gun but when that citizen decides to not follow the law then he/she will have to deal with a punishment but the other citizens will have to hear about it and this will tempt governments to increase gun control laws and the more that gun control laws increase, as proven, gun related death rates will happen more and more. As you can see gun control is viewed as being a good law but others oppose and say that gun control does not reduce
Author Jeffrey Goldberg argues that having a gun control could reduce crime, studies show America roughly has 30,000 deaths a year, but halfs are suicides and other are from natural death or gun shootings. Furthermore Goldberg stats that it’s too late to have gun control because there are an estimate
So even with all the shootings and random acts of violence, gun control laws should not happen because people will be safer with guns around. It seems as though the government has not looked at the ways that guns can provide safety. Also how gun control laws are not working in those areas that have them. Even though guns get a bad reputation by the government and gun control supporters as being dangerous, I think that they are necessary for obvious reasons, and that gun control will not help stop those violent crimes.
“A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” The right of all Americans to bear arms is a right the Founding Fathers held to equal importance as the Constitution itself. Gun control laws directly violate this right and therefore should not even be under consideration. Even if that issue is overlooked, gun control advocates state that in order to reduce firearm related violence, gun control laws must be implemented to remove the violence caused by firearms. Although this may seem reasonable, the consequences of such laws are ironically counterproductive; they exacerbate the problem instead of fixing it. Besides the fact that the American Constitution guarantees its citizens the right to bear arms, the idea of restricting gun ownership in order to reduce firearm-related violence would ultimately fail given the previous experiments of gun control in England and in numerous states.
People against gun control feel that it is a violation of the Constitution to control the sale and distribution and the registration of guns and gun owners (Band, The Editorial 2) . But it is necessary for there to be certain limits on the way that firearms are handled in this country because of the homicide rate involving guns, and because of the violence created by criminals using guns. If gun control legislation were to go through; there would be a significant decline in gun related crimes and fatalities (Sowell 2). Gun control should be control in this society, and laws should be enforced. Gun violence, protection, and safety and fall into this category. The laws should protect people’s safety and also people’s self-defense. I do believe that gun control has a big impact on society because of: gun violence, gun laws, and people’s protection (Sowell
America has a massive gun problem, and lives are lost everyday because of it. Stricter gun control laws would reduce gun deaths. Firearms are the leading implement used in homicides and less access to guns would help lower this statistic. Massacres can and would be reduced as well. Guns cannot safely be used as a means of self defense either, and bringing a gun into any situation turns it into a life or death scenario. If a gun is locked in a safe then it is not useful, and if it is not in the safe then it is not safe (Jefferies). Criminals also have easy access to guns, easier than any regulated country (Jefferies). Stricter gun laws and background checks would help catch criminals and stop them getting guns (Jefferies). More gun control is
Well gun control, otherwise known as the firearms set of laws refers to the laws and/or policies that regulate the manufacture of sale, transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms. The Second Amendment of the Constitution is the heart of this wonderful nation we live in. This amendment states that the citizens of the United States have the right to possess and bear arm. Gun control has been a hard-hitting issue for the last couple of years. Guns are one of the most powerful weapons. They can cause destruction, harm, or even death. However, guns can also defend, protect, threat, and kill.
Gun ownership with stricter controls could reduce gun violence. The U.S. will have limited effects because of the hundreds of millions of guns that already exist in private hands. Guns cause roughly 30,000 deaths per year in 2010 606 people 62 of them were younger that 15 died from accidental shootings. People want to be more live Canada with less guns and more registered guns.
Guns don’t kill people, people kill people. Limiting guns will only lead to violent people simply using other methods of killing. Pro-gun control advocates
Gun Control laws can potentially affect violence rates in a number of ways. Guns could provide protection, put people at risk, encourage crime or even cause death. The availability of guns could could enable violent crimes or possibly help to stop them (Kleck and Paterson 2). Many criminals choose guns in violent actions over other weapons most likely due to their accessibility and long range threat. Some people believe you should control guns, while others believe there is nothing wrong.
Gun control is an awfully big issue in the United States today. Many people in America don’t agree with the gun control laws that they have today. Gun control laws only take guns and freedom away from law-abiding citizens. Many citizens have their own reasons for owning a gun. Why would the government want to make it harder for people to own a gun? People that own guns aren’t very likely to be attacked by criminals. Owning a handgun is one of the best ways of protection when used correctly. The second amendment states “the right to bear arms”; does this grant everyone the right to own a gun? Gun control laws have not been proven to do anything for citizens. Gun control laws just make it harder for the good guy average Joe to own a gun. Gun control laws are not a good idea, and are taking part in the loss of our freedom that was given to us.
The Second Amendment of the United States protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms. It was adopted on December 15, 1791 along with the rest of the Bill of Rights. The United States Government should not infringe on those rights by the enforcement of gun control against law-abiding citizens. Gun control does not reduce crime, does not stop criminals from obtaining guns, and does not address the real issue of violent crime. There is no evidence that gun control affects the crime rate. The United States government is attempting to reduce violent crime by controlling the amount of guns on the market, who is allowed to purchase a gun, and what type of gun a person is allowed to purchase. The only people affected by gun control laws are the law-abiding citizen that should be allowed to purchase firearms without the government’s interjection.
“I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent.” This was said by Gahndi. Violence is a very evil and is an ongoing thing. Violence can be done in many ways, but one specific way is with a gun. Gun violence in the U.S. is a pretty serious thing that seems to never end no matter what the government tries to do, and with guns being so dangerous and easy to get, controlling them would be the next choice for our government. Reasons for controlling guns are obvious, and so are the results.
In a peer reviewed article called, "The Impact Of Gun Control And Gun Ownership Levels On Violence Rates" it explains how there is no evidence that the availability of guns has a positive effect on violent crime rates. In fact, it says the exact opposite. The article says that the evidence from better studies have largely been negative meaning that the availability of guns has no effect on violent crime. Therefore, there is no reason to propose stricter laws on gun control because it is not effecting violent crime anyways. If they want to make any proposals they need to estimate what the real problem is behind the violent crimes and the answer is the people. We need to evaluate who should and should not own a gun because guns don’t kill people, people kill people.
(Balanced Politics 1) Yes, most violent crimes are committed with guns, older and younger individuals have no means of other self-defense of rape or other crimes. There are many myths about thousands of children dying every year from gun accidents and that gun shows are the primary source for the illegal flow of firearms into the hands of criminals. (Nair 1) While Gun Control is important to ensure that gun safety is maintained, it is not fair that due to Gun Control an innocent victim is unable to protect him or herself. This in fact is a way of promoting crime as in no way does Gun Control help in
The amount of homicides that are gun related are 11,068 (CDC, 2011). The percent of murders that are gun related is ridiculous. Per 100,000 people, on average 4 people will die a year due to murder with a gun (CDC, 2011). Guns should be banned or restricted to superior personal to keep the safety of our citizens. Guns are not just related to murder there are 19,990 suicides per year. Gun control should be enforced to keep people safe. According to the CDC “Roughly 30,000 people are killed in the U.S. each year by guns” this is an outstanding number of deaths caused guns. A study has been made by the University of Harvard
