In America, the gun debate has been in the media numerous times. According to The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun violence, in the past two years two cases involving gun violence have reached the nation’s highest court. While most people argue that guns should not be allowed to the public because gun violence has gone up in the past years others believe that banning guns completely would be a violation of the second amendment and their rights to protect themselves. One side of the debate is that America has a serious problem with gun violence. On average 32 American Citizens are killed by guns while 140 are treated in an emergency room for gunshot wounds every single day. Also, “the U.S. Firearm homicide rate is 20 times higher than the combined rates of 22 countries that are our peers in wealth and population.” Secondly, gun violence has a major impact on American youth. An average of eight children and teens under the age of 20 are killed by guns every day (Brady Campaign). Additionally, American children die by guns eleven times as often as children in high income countries. The public has heard many arguments that guns at home are much more likely to cause accidental injury and suicide than to defend against unknown intruders. Tragic cases deaths among juveniles as the result of shootings support this opinion, along with the incidents of adults …show more content…

Some advocators argue serious research has indicated that the right to bear arms stops criminal attacks approximately 2.5 million times a year. Of these incidents, many did not even involve firing the weapon—just showing it was enough to make the attacker retreat (ADA Division for Public Education).
