Giuseppe Garibaldi, b. Nice, France; July 4, 1807, d. Caprera, Italy; June 2, 1882. He was known as Italy's most brilliant soldier of the Risorgimento (the Italian Unification), and one of the greatest guerrilla fighters of all time. While serving (1833-34) in the navy of the Kingdom of Sardinia-Piedmont, he came under the influence of Giuseppe Mazzini, the prophet of Italian nationalism. He took part in an abortive republican uprising in Piedmont in 1834.
Under a death sentence, he managed to escape to South America, where he lived from 1836 to 1848. There he took part in struggles in Brazil and helped Uruguay in its war against Argentina, commanding its small navy and, later, an Italian legion at Montevideo. The warrior achieved international fame through the publicity of his elder Alexandre Dumas. Wearing his colorful gaucho costume, Garibaldi returned to Italy in April 1848 to fight in its war of independence. His exploits against the Austrians in Milan and against the French forces supporting Rome and the Papal States made him a national hero. Overpowered at last in Rome, Garibaldi and his men had to retreat through central Italy in 1849. Anita, his wife and companion-in-arms, died during this retreat.
Disbanding his men, Garibaldi again escaped abroad, where he lived successively in North Africa, the United States, and Peru. The "hero of two worlds" could not return to Italy until 1854. In 1859 he helped Piedmont in a new war against Austria, leading a volunteer Alpine force that captured Varese and Como.
In May 1860, Garibaldi set out on the greatest venture of his life, the conquest of Sicily and Naples. This time he had no governmental support, but Premier Cavour and King Victor Emmanuel II dared not stop the popular hero. They stood ready to help, but only if he proved successful. Sailing from near Genoa on May 6 with 1,000 Red shirts, Garibaldi reached Marsala, Sicily, on May 11 and proclaimed himself dictator in the name of Victor Emmanuel. At the Battle of Calatafimi (May 30) his guerrilla force defeated the regular army of the king of Naples. A popular uprising helped him capture Palermo--a brilliant success that convinced Cavour that Garibaldi's volunteer army should now be secretly supported by Piedmont.
Garibaldi crossed the Strait of Messina on August 18-19 and in a whirlwind campaign reached Naples on September 7. On October 3-5 he fought another battle on the Volturno River, the biggest of his career.
The North Italian states were better economically and politically than the Southern Italian states. This led to a less feeling of nationalism since the North and South were different and was one of the reasons why the early attempts in 1821, 1830 and 1848 for unification failed. A group called Carbonari was working towards unification of the Italian states. Carbonari meant the Charcoal Burners and it was a secret society. In early 19th century a Carbonari named Mazzini brought up the notion of “Young Italy”. He emphasized on the one Italian state. He soon becomes the famous Italian soldier. In 1833, Garibaldi meets Mazzini for the first time and enrolls for the Young Italy Movement. “Young Italy” movement was where Garibaldi rose up. Slowly the sense of an Italian state was coming up but still the states were lacking a leader who would lead the way to the

He learned to fight during the Hundred Years War in France, where he fought first under Edward III and then at the command of his own company, which sacked Provence. When he came to Italy in 1360, he was first employed by the city of Pisa, then by the Viscontis of Milan, by Pope Gregory XI and lastly by Florence. In 1364 Hawkwood with his Pisan troops was the enemy of the Florentines and had raided their city but they forgave him and established such a good relationship with him that he was honored on his death with the equestrian monument frescoed by Paolo Uccello in Santa Maria del Fiore (1436). This monument is in the Florence Cathedral.

“The battle of lissa took place on July 20, 1866. The battle occurred as part of the Third Italian Independence War”. Which Italy allied with Prussia in the course of the conflict against Austria? The main objective of the Italian’s was to capture Venice. The battle took place in the Adriatic Sea and was a decisive victory for an outnumbered Austrian Empire force over a superior Italian force. This was the first major sea battle between ironclads. The Italians fired around 1450 shots during the battle, but failed to do any damage to any of the Austrian ship while the Italians lost two of their battleships. The fleets were of a mix of unarmed sailing ships and armed ironclads. Commanded by Carlo_di_Persano for the kingdom of Italy and commanded by Wilhelm von Tegetthof. The Austrian fleet won this battle because of decisive actions without hesitation, battle plan that was worked out in detail, bravery and skill of crews and, above all, resolved and brave admiral Tegetthof. Though Maximilian was no longer there to direct the work, or to push it forward, when the necessity occurred, the navy still enjoyed the benefit of his rule. He had insisted that the navy should be a national force, that the ships and

While in Mexico he got a taste of social equality that the Mexican labor unions promoted. When Augusto headed back to his home country to work in a mine, owned by a U.S. citizen, he tried to share his new-found patriotic ideals with his coworkers. When Nicaragua's Constitutional War broke out, he went to the border of Honduras and spent his savings on weapons. Together he and the fellow workers blew up the mine.
James Adam’s intent for the meaning of the American dream was "life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement” (James Truslow Adams). However, society molded Truslow’s American dream idea into another form of gender stereotypical roles of a comfortable family. Society made the meaning of the American dream more of a standard that everyone needs to meet in order be called successful. This standard society set within the American Dream was for a man to have 2.5 kids, a wife, a dog, a house, a white picket fence and to live comfortably, which everyone wanted to meet some point their life. In the American dream, again, the woman is a domestic housewife and the man is bringing the bacon home. The man is still the leader and masculine while the female is still a stay at home wife and feminine. This idea of the American Dream rather than Adam’s idea of the American Dream was pumped up by the media between the commercials and shows that portrayed the American Dream. They showed on television that the best life to have as a man is to be the head of his own household with a trophy wife and it showed the most fulfillment for a woman would to be married to a man of mid or high class and staying at home taking on all the domestic
In Hamlet, Shakespeare developed a character, an antagonist, which produces twists and turns throughout the play. Even though in the beginning of the play, Claudius seemed to be an intelligent man, who has excellent speaking skills that helped him take the leadership of his deceased brother’s kingdom, and marry his wife. But, combining both his intelligence and excellent speaking skills, shows Claudius’s true nature: an astute, lustful conspirator. Through the different settings and situations, Claudius’s character contributes to the overall understanding of the play through psychological, biblical and philosophical methods.
...ted to feel that the war could be a solution to the social, political and economical problems that they were enduring since the unification. However, the governement was still economically and militarely unprepared and had no time to persuade the Italians in this pacific way. Both the civil and military authorities used violence, coercion and repressive measures to recruit men from all over the country to join the army.
The constant pop up ads for online shopping for feminine girls or the body building woman in google images make it seems reasonable and okay for a human to behave this way as well as the internet showing that it is okay for a man to have bangs, long hair, and be domestic. showing that shows that it is okay. This shows that a woman that she can be either a housewife or have a seat in the senate. (between that body builder and the fragile girl on the pop up ad. The internet shows all the possibilities for both roles, and not only does the internet show that the woman and the man can switch roles, but it shows that this behavior is okay from both sides. A man can be soft, follower of the internet and the world. if he wants dress as a woman and she can be masculine and lead if she wants to. The internet leads for this to be okay and justifiable through YouTube, Facebook, twitter, etc. “It is being noted by many previous researchers that there is evidence on gender imbalance in the use of the internet” (Munusamy and Ismail). Meanwhile, Hupfer and Detlor (2006), who are authors of Gender and Web information seeking: A self-concept orientation model within the American Journal of Science and Technology, found that male and female differences in web searching appear to persist such as women are more into e-mail, chat, and search reference materials about medical and government information whereas men tend to focus on information about investment, purchase and personal interests. However, as the years went by, shopping online, chatting, using social media, etc became mutual activities online for both of the sexes. It is unavoidable for the internet to be one of the biggest factors that is changing the distinct gender roles of the man and the woman into similar gender roles because the interne tis constantly throwing pop up ads and images of same sex activities. The internet is

For the characters Iago and Cassio, there has been a sort of jealousy domino effect. Iago is jealous that Cassio got lieutenancy instead of himself. So he is determined to hurt Cassio and Othello in the same process. He succeeds at hurting Cassio but eventually finds himself in a job- jealousy situation again. In act IV, scene ii, Iago does not want Cassio having the powerful job of taking over for Othello in Cyprus. Iago thinks that if Cassio is dead then he can take the job, yet again. Instead of confronting Othello about why he may not be fit for receiving these jobs, Iago wants to hurt someone for it. He is letting a trivial situation make him jealous of others to the point that he would let himself take someone else’s life. In Cassio’s situation, an object gets used to spark jealousy upon someone else, but it was not even intentional. Cassio’s lady friend, Bianca, is afraid that “[the handkerchief] is some token from a newer friend./ To the felt absence now I feel a cause” (III.iv. 206-207). It can be described as a domino effect because the handkerchief was originally planted to make Othello jealous of Cassio, but now it has also made Bianca jealous of some other nonexistent women. The nature of jealousy is scary because it can destroy bonds and relationships even when it was not intended. In Cassio’s case, he made someone jealous without even trying and it will jeopardize his relationships. Most often people do not ask for the burden of having a jealous feeling, but it can consume their mind while destroying others in it’s
