The fantasy based Discworld novel “Guards! Guards!” is written by Terry Pratchett. It is an interesting novel which describes the story of an old city called “Ankh Morpork”. The title of the novel “Guards! Guards!” makes more sense when it is compared to the people of night watch. It means people of night watch need to guard the city Ankh-Morpork to prevent it from danger situation. I like the way how the characters are brought up in focus by showing their gradual growth. “Guards! Guards!” have fun characters including suspense, action, relationship, danger, character development, humor, and lots of satire. On the other hand, “Metamorphosis” is an episode of the series “Supernatural”. It was directed by Kim Manners. This episode is full of action, drama, …show more content…
Guards!” I could notice that the city of Ankh Morpork has no king and is ruled by corrupted Patrician. Similarly, in the novel, the night watch consists of different people who come from different places. For example; Vimes, Sargent Colon, Corporal Nobbs, and the Carrot. They all are drunkards and thieves other than Carrot. On the other part of the story, there is a boy named as Carrot who is adopted by dwarf (Terry-22). Carrot is being portrayed as an intelligent human being, it is so because he knows the rules of laws and act accordingly. He is also portrayed was a huge, powerful, and highly moral and innocent young man (Terry-19). Carrot is also shown as well educated person who knows the laws and takes everything very literally and applies his knowledge in every aspects of what …show more content…
In this episode, the transformation of a man from a normal human being to a devil shows that the nature of a human do not remain constant for all the time. Here, the hunter named as Travis tells about the meat eating creature to Sam and Dean. The only way to get rid of devil was to kill the
In “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, General Zaroff is shown as crazy, Fearless, and Playful. General Zaroff is shown to be crazy in the story when he traps people on his island and then hunt them. “No animal had a chance with me anymore”(. This quote shows that Rainsford is crazy because during this part, he is hunting real living humans. During the story, General Zaroff is also Fearless. He shows that he is when he is hunting Rainsford and he knows he is in the tree but doesn't kill him because he wants a better fight. “His eyes stopped before they got to the limb where Rainsford laid and he smiled”. General Zaroff shows that he is fearless during this scene because he could get killed if he lets him live for a better fight but
The book, “The House of the Scorpion” by Nancy Farmer is a 3 time award winner and a fantastic novel in the genre of utopia and dystopia. Matt is a clone saved from the burden of having a blunted intelligence. Evidence from the book supports this was a faulty move. The novel also says why El Patron blunts their intelligence; it's fully out of greed. Overwhelmingly, it seems that these things played a big part in the outcome of the novel, and why Matt is such a interesting, dimensional character in the book.
“ SOmetimes it’s the smallest decisions that can change your life forever.” Keri Russell. In the novel “ The Wednesday Wars” by Gary D Schmidt Hollings father decides that his sister is not going to college. Although Mr.Hoodhood has said no Heather can still make her own decisions according to what she wants in her life, so that she makes the results of her life and changes what she wants to change. In this situation heather has been beaten, but I think that Mr.hoodhood is wrong because you should go to college no matter how old you are. Just because your parent says you can’t do something doesn’t mean you can’t do it as an adult.
Courage is an attribute that someone has when they stand up for what they believe in. In the novel, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, by Mildred D. Taylor, Cassie shows some acts of courage. Cassie faces some challenges and she handles them in different ways. Cassie shows courage by standing up for Little Man, volunteering to be splashed by the bus for revenge, and standing up to Lillian Jean. I think that she did the right thing when she stood up for Little Man. She was trying to make things right.
Courage is having to stand up for people who are being treated unfairly or if they have different skin color. In Mildred Taylor’s book Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry Stacey has to show courage by standing up for his friends and family. Stacey is a seventh grader at Great Faith Elementary School and is the oldest Logan kid. when Papa is gone he feels like he needs to be the man of the house and watch out for his younger siblings. Stacey had to show courage when he helped Little Man get back at the bus, takes the blame for the cheat notes, and took T.J. home when he was injured.
In the ancient Japanese culture, one great aspect was on how they emphasized on the intrinsic themes of loyalty and honor. They had fierce warriors known as samurai’s. A samurai was a traditional warrior who would protect and be loyal to their masters no matter what. They were known to be skilled soldiers, benevolent men, self-sacrifice, sense of shame, along with other major characteristics that embodied them as a samurai. While this class of warrior no longer exist today, the remembrance of a samurai is present in the minds of the characters in the novel, The Samurai’s Garden by Gail Tsukiyama. Tsukiyama does a fascinating piece of work by really elaborating and describing the great attributes that Matsu possess of a true samurai. In the
Men must face hardships. Men must face disease. Men must face each other [Parallel]. Men constantly pressure one another into perfection. Some men, however, crumble under the burden looming over their heads [FoS]. When some men cannot face themselves or those around them any longer, they choose a dangerous and deadly escape. They would rather commit suicide than face their hardships. In the japanese culture, society encouraged seppuku to end a life before a man brought dishonor to his family. In a world full of yearning for honor, young men learned that they must express courage through suicide to fulfill their honorable ancestors’ wishes. Gail Tsukiyama uses her novel The Samurai’s Garden to prove that only
(p. 44); "Who came to you with the devil?" and ".perhaps another person in the village?" (p. 45). A few of his faults are that he judges too much by appearances, ".you look as such a good soul should" (p. 37); ".a claim so weighty cannot be argued by a farmer," (p. 99); and he uses people to question other people.
The novel ‘Jasper Jones’ and the film ‘Jindabyne’ both use the representation of characters and their relationships to challenge the treatment of individuals with regards to race, class and gender. The historical contexts surrounding these two texts sets the basis for the stratification and racial discrimination present. The lack of dignity that is depicted between the relationships formed between characters displays the regard in which communities treat each other. ‘Jasper Jones’ and ‘Jindabyne’ are comparable texts as it is clear that the gap between these communities has reduced since the time period of ‘Jasper Jones’ when compared to ‘Jindabyne’, however, it is identified that this gap still exists.
The Scorpion Rules is not a typical dystopia. It takes The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner, and Divergent and basically gives them the middle finger while laughing manically – actually, Talis would be laughing maniacally because he is just that strange. This book starts off with a very informational prologue, basically, it is explaining what the hell went down a couple hundred years in the past from when this book takes place. Long story short, humans were killing humans, Talis – an extremely advanced AI system – was tasked with finding a solution, and his solution was to blow up cities to get people’s attention. It worked, he became like some evil, computer overlord thing, and it all basically goes downhill while
Our perspective on life can have a significant impact on our life. Depending on how you were raised it can impact your perspective on life very differently than others. For example if you were raised in a home of poverty or drug abuse you are use too that lifestyle when you're young. It wouldn't be till your older you would realize it is not a normal way of life. It shapes our life. In the novel the Glass Castle Jeanette is a perfect example of how your perspective changes throughout life as you experience life in addition to maturing. Her change in life had an unbelievable impact on her life that made her a well round mature adult despite her upbringing in poverty.
What would happen to the world when the Government and the drug producers create a partnership that benefits each side? This is reality in The House of the Scorpion, by Nancy Farmer. The drug producers are given land between Mexico and the United States, known as Aztlán, that is theirs to do whatever they want, without the interference of outside government, as long as they make sure no illegal immigrants come to the U.S. In the middle of all of this, there is Opium. This is the largest exported drug from Aztlán and the center of young Matt’s life.
The reason why I want to exam these mental states of criminals is because I want to show how unstable they are, after all, the main reason we keep those criminals in jail for a relatively long period of time is because we want them to learn from their past mistakes, but the poor supports for those criminals who just get out of jail will only cause them to do the same thing once again. And in many times, if we choose to not help those criminals who just get out of jails, they are more likely to miss the days in jail rather than hate it. There are great quotes about jail in the movie "The Shawshank redemption", "Red: These walls are funny. First you hate them. Enough time passes, you get so you depend on them. That's institutionalized. Heywood: Shit. I could never get like that. Ernie: Oh
the end result is an execution in favour of the government because K.’s outburst of opinions are looked down in the eyes of power. The individuals residing within this society are “scared” of the total government control and therefore abide to all laws and act as if they are “blind” in a hope to escape the consequences. The Castle poses the same problems and is a remarkable tale that is just as relevant today as it ever was and reinforces the view that in the game of life the cards are stacked against us. The novel begins with K. arriving at a settlement that resembles a medieval fiefdom which consists of a central castle inhabited by a secretive society of apathetic and insensitive aristocratic officials. K. is not accepted or rejected, he exists in a state of limbo, a kind of in between where his belonging is always pending.
Horace Walpole’s creation of arguably the first gothic novel The Castle of Otranto in 1764 features the now well known convention of the tyrannical father. The tyrannical father is often described as a man with complete power and authority who misuses his status in order to oppress and exact cruelty on others, most often his own family and more specifically his children. This convention is personified within Walpole’s novel in the form of Manfred, the primary antagonist and lord of the Castle of Otranto, whose actions revolve around his fears of his family line ending before its time due to the death of his only son Conrad and therefore losing the lordship of Otranto. These actions include, but are not limited to: obsessively pursuing Isabella,
